First match of the season
Will there be an Englishman in the starting 11?
Caveats - Cork and Jay Rod leave, the rumours about Brownhill going to Everton are true.

not being funny but why the hell would Brownhill leave a team that plays exhilarating football for one that doesn't ? He wouldn't get a massive pay rise at Everton

Re: First match of the season
I've no idea how long JB has on his contract here or if they are in discussions for a new one, i'm sure if he decides to jump ship VK will bring in someone better and that's not to say I want him to go, I like Josh a lot and we missed him when he was out.

I always forget about that ! sorry ! So he has a year + an option. So realistically his next one is his 'big earner' one then, I guess that could leave us vulnerable to losing himClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 4:24 pmEasy to find out contract dates

He very probably would.
Wasn’t their last reported wage bill pushing on £200m ?

Re: First match of the season
He'd definitely get a massive pay rise at Everton, but it wouldn't take him long to realise he'd made a huge mistake (aside from his bank account). If Everton spend big (which I understand they'll struggle to do with the FFP stuff hanging over them) then he'll be nowhere near the team. If they don't spend big, then he'll be one of several new "messiahs" brought in this summer who'll leave the fans totally underwhelmed and will be getting pilloried by the locals week in week out come November because they're struggling to keep the team out of the bottom 3 (again!) Best to avoid imo, unless you're seriously desperate for the cash.
Re: First match of the season
He'd get more minutes at Everton next year than he will staying at Burnley, if VK isn't looking to upgrade then I'd be amazed.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 3:53 pmnot being funny but why the hell would Brownhill leave a team that plays exhilarating football for one that doesn't ? That FFP thing that's hanging over them is historic, they've now entered a fresh 3 year cycle.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 4:57 pmyeah but aren't they having to reel all that spending in ?

Sorry but where are these rumours of Brownhill & Everton?
There’s nothing on Twitter about it, even from some random ITK account

Not a rumour, but if with his remaining contract time you'd think we'd be either trying to extend it or sell him

Re: First match of the season
Even though VK had him as his captain for most of the second half of the season ?
The way he played last season and also stepped up as one of the senior players he deserves his chance in the PL.
I do agree that we need to bolster the midfield with quality and strength but I’d see that as someone competing with Cullen, Brownhill, JBG and Cork for that are of the pitch.
Re: First match of the season
So if JB goes what’s the price ? Same as Gordon to Newcastle ?
Re: First match of the season
Gordon cost Newcastle 45 million inc add ons
Re: First match of the season
We know what Brownhill can do in Premier League, yes we need numbers and he's more than good enough to be in the squad but not a certain starter for me.Big Vinny K wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 5:29 pmEven though VK had him as his captain for most of the second half of the season ?

I don't read too much into the Captaincy thing, it should have been Cullen but VK was being diplomatic towards the lads already there.

Speculation started 12 months ago.
Along with Tarkowski etc.

Back to the op, Conor Gallagher is English, so there's one.

Re: First match of the season
They are still being investigated for it aren't they?
And isn't it a rolling 3 year cycle? I can't see them being punished, but I'd be amazed if they haven't broken the rules
Re: First match of the season
Yes it's still ongoing, remember when Farhad Moshiri took over and went crazy spending something like 200m in a two seasons? Well that is the period that doesn't add up (I'm sure Chester will correct me). You're allowed to spend x amount over turnover in a 3 year period, that 3 year period has started again.Roosterbooster wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 6:10 pmThey are still being investigated for it aren't they?

Chelsea are currently by passing all this by offering 8 year contracts, so spreading the expenditure over the length of the contract, not cheating in law but what's the difference?

Have they broken the rules or haven't they? Is there a rumour surrounding Brownhill or isn't there? Some fonts of knowledge on this thread but I think it's probably best left alone seeing as it is still May.

Re: First match of the season
I think it would have to take an unbelievable financial offer to get Brownhill to leave us. He is so much part of the club.
Re: First match of the season
There’s absolutely zero rumours of Brownhill to Everton. This poster is the same one who made a thread with the rumour Kompany was definitely joining Spurs. He then signed a new 5 year deal with us. So we can expect Brownhill to sign a new deal within the next few weeks.

Would Dyche play him in the same role he had when he was manager? I think he is enjoying himself playing in this team with less restrictions.

Re: First match of the season
Surely FFP works on a rolling 3 year cycle?
Re: First match of the season
The three-year periods cover any three consecutive years. So the seasons ending 2019-2020-2021 form a 3-year cycle, and the seasons ending 2020-2021-2022 form a 3-year cycle, and 2021-2022-2023, and so on.equinox wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 6:24 pmYes it's still ongoing, remember when Farhad Moshiri took over and went crazy spending something like 200m in a two seasons? And spending on player transfers works a different way from spending on (say) wages. The transfer fee is spread over the length of the first contract. So if Dwight McNeil cost £20m and signed a 4 year contract, that would mean his transfer fee was shown in the accounts as £5m in each of the years ending 2023, 2024, 2025, 2026.
You're right that Chelsea signed a load of players on 8 year contracts to spread the transfer fee over more years, but there's a downside of course. Those players finished 13th in the PL and they are stuck with paying them for another 7 years!
Re: First match of the season
I was not impressed by JB when we were in the EPL but think he was very good this season finished. However, like all the others he will have to step up to the bigger challenge, personally I'm fine with him as a squad player or if he leaves. VK will ultimately dictate what our midfield and the rest of the team looks like, but I think 99.99% of us agree, we need more/better players, especially in midfield, I think Cork, who I've long liked, will also be a squad player this season coming.
Re: First match of the season
Cork said in an interview that he was happy to just be the old head to help others. He seemed to be intimating that he wouldn't be getting a lot of game time.

Re: First match of the season
It does although some seem to think it runs like the tv deals in three year slots.
