The Treble

I don’t care that much for either Utd or City but I remember when Utd won the treble in 1999 I was really rooting for them to do it. Maybe the riveting climax to the final against Bayern when United scored twice in injury time has coloured my judgement but Im just not bothered whether City do it or not. Just wondered how others felt.

I want them to do it, but I'd settle for them utterly hammering ManU on Saturday.

I don't want Manure to win anything ever.Id like to see their ground turned into a sewage factory. My hate for them just keeps growing and growing.

Same.

Also I always want English teams to do well in Europe… with the exception of Liverpool who don’t identify as English in any case.

I don't have any sort of attachment to Man City other than I grew up with Man United winning everything and the amount of glory supporters that spawns is sickly. Although we're seeing it now with City shirts popping up everywhere. Anyway, City to win the treble. They play some of the best football I've ever seen.

I’ll certainly be rooting for City against Inter for the same reason. If Wout features for Utd in the Fa cup final then I’ll want him to score, but not particularly bothered who wins the match.

Yes. I'd like City to win the treble.
Good luck to them.
Keep all the championship titles and cups up north, far away from the southern poncy jessies down south.

I don’t want them to win the Champions League for at least another 5 years because Pep desperately wants to win with City and I’m hoping he won’t leave until he has.

I want them to win it, a few English players in the 11 for City and a big win in a final like that will do them the world of good if England manage to make another some time soon.

Each time a English team has got to the final, I've wanted them to win it just as a matter of course.

I'm not really fussed though when it comes to Chelski and Citeh. Particularly Citeh, due to their various and well documented breaches of financial fair play, it's just like watching someone cheat on Championship manager to financially dope Harrogate Town to the treble. It's only impressive if you take away the billions sprinkled on them to get them to trophies.

A Wout last minute winner at the weekend would be hilarious, but I think the blue side of Manchester will just steam roller them again.

Not bothered who wins the cup but if City win the FA Cup I would prefer Inter win the Champions League, City winning 3 out of 4 trophies in a season and 5 league titles in 6 seasons isn't good for the game.

Not being funny, but is this Leeds hatred a generational thing from the early seventies?

I’ve never seen them as a rival but there have dozens of posts about them recently. They must love how they live in some Burnley fans’ heads as we’re nothing to them.

In my case yes,it stems from the Don Revie Dirty Leeds era. Also Norman Hunter who crippled Frank Casper the dirty git..
Not many people had time for Leeds in the 70's mate.

This will be the first cup final I’ve watched since I can’t remember when. Should be a goodie but I’ll take City to win. If they don’t they could well lose to Milan.

Must admit I’d like City to win Champions League. They’ve come through the hardest side of the draw, and that first half performance against Madrid at the Etihad the other week, was arguably the best 45 mins I’ve ever seen. Absolutely fantastic.

That is pretty much the argument the representatives of Blackburn Rovers made against Burnley, Preston, Accrington and Bolton Wanderers in the year before they admitted they paid their players and joined the Football League with the 12.

Sorry made me chuckle, uncanny.

Or he wins the treble, feels there’s nothing left to achieve at City, and goes looking for a new challenge. Maybe back to Barca. Leaving City to potentially come in for Kompany.

Be very surprised if Pep is going to walk before VK has been bedded in a couple of seasons. By many accounts they are very close.

Personally, I don’t like it when one team dominates everything, especially when it’s bought, no matter how good the football is. It’s not healthy for any sport, as competitions need to be competitive.

It's funny but years ago I hated Manchester United because they had such dominance when I was younger. But I'm with the OP. Manchester City as good as they are, stand for much of what's wrong with the modern game. At least back when Manchester United did it they relied a lot on their own youngsters coming through.

I take a dislike more to teams that started the big spending craze rather than teams like Manchester United, Liverpool or Arsenal that now spend big money because they have to. Chelsea and Manchester City are the main culprits.

This craze has now spread to smaller teams forcing them to pay big bucks too making it even hard for a team like us to compete.

Also, it's still funny they haven't won the Champions League so I hope they lose that too.

Not forgetting which club really started spending way above their means. Not on the scale of what we are seeing now but relatively speaking it was the start. Firstly Chelsea and now Man City have elevated it to new levels and I guess Newcastle may well join them, but it was those at the wrong end of the M65 who were the first.

Most likely he'll go to somewhere like PSG where he can sprinkle another billon on a dominant team to keep them winning.

I guess City will win both games and the treble, probably playing some utterly brilliant football along the way. And absolutely nobody will give a toss.

It'll be as enthralling as Celtic winning a domestic treble.

Hope City do it -

One less peg for the United glory hunters to shout about

We all know how insufferable their fans are/were now/during their dominance under Fergie…

Makes it even sweeter that it’s been City to knock them off their perch.

It’s a more impressive treble as well - more wins, more goals scored, less goals conceded & better football

There's certainly pressure on Man City to win the CL this year because they'll never have a better chance, and if they don't it'll almost certainly destroy Guardiola mentally, if they fail this season.

They had a far better chance the last time they were in the CL final vs Chelsea but he messed that up by playing some whacky formation.

No chance is it more impressive considering the competition each side have had, the way their squads were built, and the entertainment value of the respective sides.

I wanted utd to win yesterday for that reason, but suppose will now have to get behind city as the english club in the final.

I think it's all the local lads playing for City, coming from the youth team, that make it more impressive, rather than buying in the trophies with endless pots of cash the club hasn't earned.

...oh hang on.

On second thoughts, I'm not sure it's that impressive when the expectation at the start of the season is that they'll win the treble, tbh. Bonny football like, but for a Billion quid, you'd hope they could play as well as Burnley ;)

I thought United were quite lucky in their treble winning season.

Taken to the last day by Arsenal in the league

Scored last minute goals against Liverpool in FA Cup
Taken to a replay by Chelsea
Should have been beaten by Arsenal in the semi final, but Bergkamp missed a penalty

Only beat Brøndby in the CL group stages
Scored an injury time goal in 1st leg v Juve, and in 84th minute in 2nd leg
Scored 2 injury time goals in final v Bayern

Since City have started playing properly this season, they have been absolutely phenomenonal. Deserve everything they win. No luck about it

For years. So many years that UEFA couldn't prosecute because of statute of limitations, no less.

Probably the most impressive thing about City is their legal team.

Let’s not pretend that United also don’t spend ridiculous money - or even back then.. their squad wasn’t completely composed of youth players at all and had record signings in numerous positions.

It’s more impressive in terms of the way they’re winning.

United didn’t blow past teams like City does

United treble was way more impressive because it was harder to do it then. City have more money and a better squad than anyone else by a long way, so it's almost a failure if they don't win the treble every year. The english Celtic. That's how ****** up football is now.

Nonsense. They are just far better run than most at this current time. Madrid won the Champions League 3 times out of 4 recently didn’t they? Chelsea spent more money this season than City have in the past 3. United have spent more money than City since Pep joined. Think you are doing a disservice to Pep and what he’s done there.
