DYCHE'S RECENT REWARD

Post by warksclaret » Fri Jun 02, 2023 10:31 am

Being reported that Everton have just paid SD his £3m bonus for keeping Everton up, along his supposed £5m pa salary. Whilst not taking away from his achievements , that's not bad when you consider how much Leeds and Leicester contributed to Everton staying up in the last 5 to 6 weeks with some woeful performances

I thought his Everton contract was the same as the one at Burnley, this level of bonus is one he was earning at our club from the time he first signed a multi-year deal under Garlick, ALK just increased his basic salary was my understanding

Maybe that is his pay off for keeping them up as I wouldn't be surprised if they get someone else in for next season.

Agree with the point above re:Leeds and Leicester but without a CF he worked a minor miracle to keep them up. The biggest plus was that the players were playing for him. There has already been talk of them binning him but it would be madness.

Agree TT. They need to give him a chance to move the club forward in a number of ways.

Reminds me of the West Ham/Moyes situation a few years ago, Moyes kept them up, West Ham sacked him and a year later came crawling back to Moyes to save them again.

Hindsight now, i suppose, but i said at the time that Leeds might as well have kept Gracia on for the last 4 games, whatever one thinks of SA and his qualities, or lack of them.
Doubt Pep would have saved them in so short a time.

Not a bad gig is it. And even if it had gone disastrously for him, he'd have got another highly paid job after it anyway.

A fair reward for Dyche given what he has saved Everton in their current circumstances.

Genuine question: How many people think that financial gain is Sean Dyche's main motivation.

No, scrap that. Here's a better question:

How much of a priority do you think financial remuneration is for Sean Dyche?

Did the job asked of him in very difficult circumstances and with the Everton fanbase clearly not impressed by his appointment initially.

Even until the final day some fans wanted him gone and that he wasn't going to save them etc.

Surely because Big Sam achieved absolutely nothing he didn't get paid very much, I think that's how it works in these situations?

I think he looks at the bigger picture, beyond his immediate financial remuneration.
Going into Everton and dragging them up to 17th before the last game of the season, with that injury list and no first choice striker has no doubt done wonders for his reputation.
If Everton decided to bin him off, it won't matter because he will find another job easy enough I think

Only a very subtle difference between the two questions.....Sean Dyche remains a very good actor.....If Everton want to progress as a football club it will be without him (and I very rarely, if ever, disagree with Tricky Trevor).

He had a very tricky job at Everton, getting them to roll up their sleeves was a minor miracle, big Sam failed to get Leeds to do that. Fair play to him whatever he gets money wise.
As for the Everton fans, their forums had the fanbase very lukewarm towards him, even though he kept them up. Admittedly some of the more recent posts are more complimentary, but overall Everton fans are full of self entitlement and inflated opionions of themselves.

Really not sure that anyone can think that in today's game, for a club who have spent up to £40m on Dele Alli (and all the other dosh they've parted with for various players) that £3m is too much as a bonus for keeping them up, particularly considering what some of their players must be on salary-wise and the financial implications relegation would have had for them.

The relegated clubs, of course, weren't brilliant but at the end of the day, averaging above a point per game keeps you in the Premier League and that's what Dyche did, including a win against Arsenal when they were top of the league and before they started their slide.

If the Board have illusions of granduer it isn't the Manager they need to change.

Fans seem to think they make the decisions at Everton and I'm glad they aren't my Club.

I'm disappointed with Everton's fan base most of them seem to be delusional.

Saying that if you read this forum you'd think Dyche was not greatly appreciated by the fanbase so maybe it's a forum thing...

As God says above, Everton's squad is threadbare and they've had injuries so overall Dyche deserves plaudits but not necessarily millions of pounds.

To be fair the Goodison crowd has been a 100 per cent behind him and the team just as Turf Moor stayed loyal for the most part - one game against Watford aside.

Overall Dyche did a Dyche ...

I am probably on my own with this but I don’t think keeping Everton up is that big of an achievement, it was done by the skin of their teeth as well.

The reason I don’t believe it to be anything special is because Everton don’t go down, they’ve never gone down before so why is keeping them up seen as a master stroke?

Because they were in free fall under Lampard, they would've gone with Southampton before the end of the season; they had no fit strikers; they couldn't score goals; they had long-forgotten players nowhere near the first team. Dyche fixed their defence, and defenders started scoring point-winning goals.

They may have stayed up with the skin of their teeth, but the players started giving their all for the shirt and battled. Lampard couldn't get a tune out of them.

That would be based upon the premise that something that hasn't happened before can't ever happen, which must be at least one way of defining insanity.

He achieved the first phase of his appointment which was keeping them up. But as I said in the opening post his life was made somewhat easier by the poor performance of Leeds and Leicester in the second half of the season. I see a lot of Leicester playing and saw an upturn in their performances once Dean Smith joined. I believe that had he joined the Foxes when Dyche did in January it could have been a different story. Everton survived by the skin of their teeth and had Leicester beaten Everton towards the end of the season rather than draw 2-2 (remember Leicester missed a penalty by Maddison), Everton would be relegated now.

Imagine, and I know its not likely to happen. if Everton were docked points by breaching FFP in the last season or two-be a real tug of war for that £3m !!

Big Sam was on for £2.5m if he kept Leeds up.

It’s worth it to retain income of £100m+

Shame no one thought of throwing a massive bonus at someone when Coyle left really.

when he went there, listening to a pundit on US TV, he said it's a strange one, Everton in freefall and it's difficult to see him keeping them up, not allowed to sign anyone makes it a very difficult task. He has a great reputation from his time at BFC and it should be remembered he's not really shown his managerial skills anywhere else in reality. Therefore, if Everton go down he will have damaged his reputation and added a relegation to his CV, some might say he has Burnley on his CV as a relegation but many others argue if BFC had stuck with him they wouldn't have gone down! Of course many here would definitely argue that, but in reality none of will ever know for 100% certainty.

I thought a lot of that was somewhat rationale but he also needed a club where he could prove he could make a difference, regardless of what think say, I think he did a good job, not fantastic or anything but he certainly did what the owners wanted. Additionally, the Everton team under Dyche, with the same players, were much better than under Lampard, so can he add, shape a team for his first full season in charge with a pre-season, I think yes he can.

Therefore my opinion is that Everton would be stupid to go elsewhere at this time, but of course with Everton you never know what they'll do, they always seem to want a "sexy" name to go with their delusional beliefs in what Everton is as a club

It’s not though is it. It’s more a case of he’s achieved what all his predecessors have achieved and what should be expected.

The first manager that takes Everton down, should that ever happen, will be labelled the man that took Everton down for that reason, ie it’s not happened before despite multiple scares.

The way i see footballers salaries now -

At least they have to pay tax on that income, at a pretty high rate as well - so at least they’re contributing to the country in which we reside in.

Much better than the dodgy sods connected to a certain political party with their offshore accounts etc

I think he'd have got more for keeping them up but less for not doing...but what do I know, I'm only an ex chairman of a football club.
