Lesser-known songs
Lesser-known songs
Perhaps. Depends on your musical knowledge (of course) and your tastes.
I'm a fairly big fan of Paul Simon and find this song sublime.
"Silent Eyes" from the album "Still Crazy After All These Years" (1975)

Re: Lesser-known songs
I've completely fallen out with the BBC nowadays but have to admit that some of the music shows they've had on over the years are wonderful in terms of footage and sound. I came across that clip (I think then recently restored and on JTs channel) a couple of years ago- it also has this one from from the same show, what a great voice he had and a nice picker (not to mention the great pullover). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1nKGVD ... amesTaylorTricky Trevor wrote: ↑Sun Jun 04, 2023 4:30 pmJames Taylor. Thanks for "Tears' reminder (Fairport). Lucas had a great voice. Great images of him and Sandy on their wedding day.

I'm a massive fan of Rory Gallagher but in the main his studio recordings are pretty terrible.LeadBelly wrote: ↑Sun Jun 04, 2023 5:23 pmI've completely fallen out with the BBC nowadays but have to admit that some of the music shows they've had on over the years are wonderful in terms of footage and sound. If it wasn't for the BBC sessions, much of what he can do would have never been heard.

I know it’s all a matter of opinion, but…” Blueprint “ and “Tattoo “ are both excellent studio albums. The BBC sessions are really good also.dougcollins wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 6:26 pmI'm a massive fan of Rory Gallagher but in the main his studio recordings are pretty terrible.

Rory was at his best playing live.
As Doug probably knows, the annual Rory Gallagher Festival has just taken place in Ballyshannon, his hometown. (…Going To My…)
My great-niece’s band played at the festival. Can you imagine how old that makes me feel?
With apologies to all who, reasonably, wanted this thread to remain about lesser known songs.

Free - The Stealer. This was the follow up to the smash hit Alright Now. It got minimal airplay and flopped chart wise. Great groove though.

From Working Mans Cafe. A great album. I Love One More Time from that album but it’s full of great songs. The Morphine Song is great too. Not too many people I talk to know the album at all.Lip wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2023 8:17 pmRay Davies "Imaginary Man"

Big up to your choice too, Davies with his real lazy voice and nostalgic lyrics (does anyone do nostalgic better).

Re: Lesser-known songs
I think Leadbelly's version of House of the Rising Sun is the only version that stays true to the songs original country blues and is markedly different from Dylan's folky version and of course The Animals who pretty much write a different song.

That Creedence track is a terrific vehicle for Fogerty’s amazing voice. First band I ever saw live…Free Trade Hall…circa 1970 (I was 16).Chobulous wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 5:48 pmA good one from Creedence

Sadly tensions within the band had started to appear by the time the album Pendulum was released but you’re right an amazing track

The butterfly collector The Jam.
Also a brilliant version with Noel Gallagher and Paul Weller.

Also this highlights how Wellers vocals are so rich.
