Re: ARTICLE: Searching for the best Barnes goal
his 1st (home goal) against Wigan Athletic was the best 'team' goal
also Palace at home in last few minute for the shear excitement of a late winner
...but West Ham away for me was shear perfection!
thanks Ashley!

Re: ARTICLE: Searching for the best Barnes goal
Some fantastic goals - West Ham, West Btom and Spurs, and Palace at home, but there's also the superb goal he scored at Man City in 2014. I've gone for West Ham though.

There’s some cracking goals in there.
I went for the screamer away at Spurs.

Re: ARTICLE: Searching for the best Barnes goal
Likely this goes to people’s favourite Barnes goal rather than best.
I’ve gone for the best (most skilled) which for me is away at West Brom. Stunning technique.

Sadly without leaving the Blackburn goal out of the vote it seems it will always winClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2023 11:13 amShame some can't look past that and look at the quality of his best goals.

Perhaps you should elaborate on your definition of ‘ best goal’

His goal at Spurs is an absolute stunner. Probably go for that.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2023 10:55 amWas torn between West ham away and Spurs away, went for the Spurs away goal.
Strangely, if it was based purely on emotion, I'd actually have gone for his winner v Palace over Blackburn or Wigan. Never celebrated a goal like it on the Turf since Roger Eli v Blackpool in '92.

Re: ARTICLE: Searching for the best Barnes goal
That Palace one - you can't beat a stoppage time winner and after we'd lost a two goal lead too. The Wigan goal was probably the best goal of the lot in terms of a team goal and on such an occasion.NottsClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2023 11:49 amHis goal at Spurs is an absolute stunner. Re: ARTICLE: Searching for the best Barnes goal
For a team that didn't score that many goals under Dyche and for a striker who was considered by many to be a lower league battering ram kind of player, there aren't half some top quality goals amongst that lot.

Re: ARTICLE: Searching for the best Barnes goal
Pretty simple - if you think his free header against Rovers was his best goal, then you vote for it
Absolutely no doubt that it was tremendous from a fan point of view, but was it the best goal he's scored for us?
You could make a case for the WBA away, Spurs away, City away, Palace at home, Wigan at home, West Ham away
Ideally you think about the technique, the quality of finish, how much of a thunderbastard it was etc
Saying all that, I've gone for the Rovers at home goal as well

Re: ARTICLE: Searching for the best Barnes goal
The Blackburn goal should definitely be left out of the list, but only for voting purposes. He’s scored some far better goals in that list, imo. To leave it in or allow it to be voted on is not a true reflection of his best goal imo.
Re: ARTICLE: Searching for the best Barnes goal
West Brom away for me. Top technique from a player who was flying at the time.
As for the Blackburn goal, I actually think his second, with the little dummy, was better. Did love him pushing the keeper, like.

His second v Blackburn is a seriously underrated goal… absolute liquid football including Tella’s “back-pass” and a great finish from Ashley.

Re: ARTICLE: Searching for the best Barnes goal
Difficult
For quality Spurs away
For satisfaction Rovers at home
For sheer joy Palace at home
I went for Palace in the vote, but it does depend on your yard stick. I just remember how deflated I felt blowing a 2 goal lead, late on, then step forward Super Ash.

I thought that was by far the better goal of the two he scored in that game but it failed to register in the player of the year vote.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2023 1:15 pmHis second v Blackburn is a seriously underrated goal… absolute liquid football including Tella’s “back-pass” and a great finish from Ashley.

Re: ARTICLE: Searching for the best Barnes goal
Genuinely can't pick them
Spurs is probably the best 'quality' but we lost that game so didn't have as much meaning
I think given the context it has to be Blackburn at home - and it's more for the push on the Keeper afterwards; it's stuff of legends
Palace, West Ham, West Brom all in consideration as well... I think the Wigan one is a little scabby if honest

Re: ARTICLE: Searching for the best Barnes goal
I may be wrong but didn’t Barnes himself say the Blackburn goal was his best goal in that interview with him and his wife? I know Cork stated that was the highlight of the season for him.
It does entirely depends of your definition of best.

Come on DA, we all know that if the list had 50 goals on, you’d have picked the 51st that didn’t make itDevils_Advocate wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2023 1:34 pmWould have been his penalty away at Liverpool for me but it didn't even make the shortlist
Re: ARTICLE: Searching for the best Barnes goal
I watched all of them on YT and, as stated above, he scored some superb goals.
His first at TM was, as claretblue said, was a superb team goal.
Very, very difficult to choose one.

Re: ARTICLE: Searching for the best Barnes goal
Always contentious when discussing 'best of'. I've gone for his goal at West Ham in the 0-3 game a few seasons back but that feeling and release of pure joy when he scored that first one against Rovers, putting the keeper in the net too, will live with me for a long time. I recall in the first half their keeper feigning injury after a supposed 'foul' by Ashley. Little did he know it was going to come.back and bite him to that extent in the second half. Still sticking to his goal at West Ham though.

I went for Spurs away.
The position we were in on the corner gave us such a fantastic view of it curling in. Brilliant goal.

Re: ARTICLE: Searching for the best Barnes goal
I think the push on the keeper whilst being pure Ashley Barnes actually distracts a little from the quality of the goal. The cross from Zaroury was perfection but so was Barnes positioning and timing which made the finish look easy.
Which Ashley Barnes goal will you never forget ?

West Brom goal for me, but the Palace and Wigan ones were close, both typical Barnes and full of emotion.

Nailed it, FCBurnley........It was simply a deft header before planting their keeper into the net....Unforgettable.FCBurnley wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2023 4:43 pmI think the push on the keeper whilst being pure Ashley Barnes actually distracts a little from the quality of the goal. Just everything about the Wigan goal was just perfect , now that has my vote
Re: ARTICLE: Searching for the best Barnes goal
West Ham away, remember the game well - the home fans were in uproar with the club's owners at the time - standing and protesting and our Ashley absolutely rocketed the ball into the net. Incredible goal and an easy choice for me.
