West ham v Burnley, 23rd August 1975 ..
My first ever Burnley game ... match programme 10p, " V " shirts and not one advert in the programme. You know you're knocking on a bit when the picture of West Ham's Youth team includes Alvin Martin, Alan Curbishley, Paul Brush & Terry Hurlock .... The offer for a full set of the previous season's match programmes including League, Cups, Reserve and FA Youth Cup games seems a bargain at £3.25 ...

Defeats would normally be forgettable, but this game is etched in the memory for some reason. We score twice, with a classic Leighton James goal and another from Peter Noble and yet contrive to go on and lose the game.
That '75/'76 season was a tough one to take and yet still contained some memorable moments, not least the achievement of the great "Uwe" Noble in scoring 9 goals in the first 9 games......He really was special......
......In fact has any other player, apart from George Beel, a century ago, matched that start to a season ?.....
Peter Noble was a remarkable player for us, and a remarkable man.

A level below, but Charlie Austin must have come close that season where he'd got about 20 by Christmas.Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 4:56 pmThat '75/'76 season was a tough one to take and yet still contained some memorable moments, not least the achievement of the great "Uwe" Noble in scoring 9 goals in the first 9 games......He really was special......

Fair play......From a quick calc it looks like, in the 2012/13 season, Charlie scored a remarkable 11 goals in the first 9 League games.....the only caveat being that Austin was a No.9 striker whereas Noble was an attacking midfielder.NottsClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 5:42 pmA level below, but Charlie Austin must have come close that season where he'd got about 20 by Christmas.
