Re: ARTICLE: We had Robbie Blake – Twice
A real example of ‘if he’d had pace’.
Perhaps it’s good that he didn’t because he’d have played at the very top of the game, and not for us.
Without doubt, still my favourite ever Burnley player.

Superb player, a player to get you on your feet when he was one on one against a defender.
That performance against Spurs is for me also the best performance by a Burnley player in a game. I would also add Stephen Ward to that, as 2nd place, away at Stoke, if Blake gets the best "attacking" performance then Ward certainly deserves the best "defensive" performance.

Thanks for that, Tony
I've been going on since the late 80s and he's easily my favourite Burnley player

Re: ARTICLE: We had Robbie Blake – Twice
Tied with Glen as my favourite ever, I couldn't split them I don't think. Magical moments across both spells, a player that got you on the edge of your seat as you never knew what he was going to do. The type of player you never forget, and the type of player that you pay your money to see. It was a privilege to watch him.
Additionally, a really top bloke with a brilliant sense of humour. It might have ended on a sour note (twice!) at Burnley, but not from his perspective. He really loved and continues to love 'his' club.

Wonderful player, one of my favourites too.
Yes, those brilliant free kicks against PNE and the volley that beat Man U were stand outs for me.
True Clarets legend.

The summary of his performance against spurs is absolutely bang on. Best individual performance I've seen on the turf. Unstoppable that day. Also that free kick against PNE he scored at Jimmy Mac end could still be travelling now, it just flew into the net.
Re: ARTICLE: We had Robbie Blake – Twice
My favorite player. Could beat 10 men in a telephone box and he was a master at dropping his shoulder and shuffling round his man. An absolute magician.
One of my favourite memories of him is a game we played against Plymouth at home (from memory) we had scored 2, he might have got both but I'm sure he got at least one and the Longside kept screaming for him to shoot every time he got the ball. He did, hit a shocker, and then looked at the crowd and shrugged as if to say "well you told me too". Queue the "Ohhhhhh Robbie Robbie".

Re: ARTICLE: We had Robbie Blake – Twice
My son was enjoying a drink in Burnley the night before (I think) the Rovers game at home. He bumped into an old friend who he knew from junior football in the town and another guy who was drinking with him. After a few minutes chatting his friend introduced the other guy and said “look who I’ve got with me tonight”. My son had not paid much attention until this point and did a double take when he realised it was Robbie Blake! I assume he came down for the match?
Great to watch his goals (YouTube has a selection of many of his classics).
My favourite was the free kick against Preston at Jimmy Mac end. Despite it being about 30 yards out the ball was still travelling upwards as it hit the back of the net!

More talent in his little finger than alot of the Pemier league players have in their entire families going back multiple generations.

That free kick against Preston just before he left the first time. It was right on half time and my brother said he might as well have a shot. I just told him not to be ridiculous, have you seen how far out he is?
What do I know? They could have had three goalkeepers and they wouldn’t have stopped it.

Re: ARTICLE: We had Robbie Blake – Twice
I was right behind that. If the net hadn’t been there, I’d have caught it. Magnificent strike.
Special mention too, for the way he sat half of the Tottenham players on their backside for his assist for Chris McCann. Likewise, his slalom goal against Wolves. He definitely didn’t have diver’s boots on that day!

Was one of those that even though there was the net in the way, you’d still flinch like it was going to hit you
Re: ARTICLE: We had Robbie Blake – Twice
Loved watching him, he would be awesome in our current team.

I have another ex-Claret article going live a week on Sunday but I’ll try to get another one written before then.

Re: ARTICLE: We had Robbie Blake – Twice
He certainly was a talented dribbler and had a blistering shot. Yes, his game against Spurs was outstanding and 'that' goal against Manchester United, but 2 other things stick out. The free kick against Preston where he sweved the ball around the widest side of the wall into the top corner and apparently our away dressing room (can't remember which team) was laughing with incredulity, after one match, about a pass from Blake that went entirely along the pitch onto a Burnley players feet.

My Son was born in 2009. We got him 2 teddy bears. One we called Robbie and the other Wade. We still have Robbie, not sure what happened to Wade. Reflects how we felt about Robbie Blake!
