Re: Brilliant idea.
Might aswell do it before the pitch is re-laid - or is that underway already?
I think they did a "camp under the stars" night at Turf last summer too if I'm not mistaken?

Remember when the club used to do 'open days'? I remember going to a couple in the mid 1990's. It was a chance to meet the players, take penalties against Marlon and so on.

Re: Brilliant idea.
No, you had to buy a raffle ticket, and I didn't win. Though I watched a child, no older than six years old, take a penalty against our No.2 at the time, David Williams. From memory, Marlon had broken his nose at Stoke City not long before and wasn't there.
Williams just watched the ball pea-roll in, much to my disgust. That said, he was probably trying his hardest.

As I read that I was so wanting the 6-year-old to fire their kick straight at his nose.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 4:14 pmNo, you had to buy a raffle ticket, and I didn't win. Did you watch David Williams play against Burnley for Rochdale?claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 4:14 pmNo, you had to buy a raffle ticket, and I didn't win. Re: Brilliant idea.
I played in a Festival of Walking Football at Craven Cottage last Wednesday (31st May). More than 50 turned up to use the "Premier League" changing rooms and play walking football on the "Premier League" pitch. Fulham Community Foundation organised it. We all paid £20 that goes to their charity funds. Seven teams were formed and everyone played 6 games of 7-a-side. No "winners or losers" - this was a festival rather than a tournament.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 3:39 pmSaw this on FB yesterday. New to me but probably not original.

The pitch was in excellent condition, even though it is at the end of the season. The grass was cut short. I described it as playing on a baby's blanket spread across a snooker table.
Interesting to see the changing rooms. Both home and away are in the old cottage in the corner between the two stands. The home changing room was the plusher of the two, but not very spacious. A Premier League team now has 11 starters plus 9 subs. Three sides of the room had 20 places, one for each player packed closely together. The 4th side had a tv on the wall and a white board with the black (ffc) and red magnets to move around for team discussions. The showers were communal (no separate cubicles) plus one cryotherapy tub in the corner. The away changing room was simpler, plain wooden benches, less space for the players' clothes etc.
I didn't wear a Burnley shirt for the morning. I'll save that for when we are playing at Craven Cottage this coming season.

Re: Brilliant idea.
Was that the David Williams that we sent on loan to Rochdale and he played like a man possessed against us when they beat us at Turf Moor?claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 4:14 pmNo, you had to buy a raffle ticket, and I didn't win. I played in the CC final against Blackpool in the early 90s when lots of games were played after the season finished......Blackburn won.ClaretsPadiham wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 6:27 pmUnsure if the Keighley cup is still played on the Turf.

Re: Brilliant idea.
Yep I remember these, probably went on till the early 00’s (I definitely remember Stan being at a few so they’d have to be I think). Bertie Bee was in attendance and the players posed for photos - taken by disposables back then of course - and signed shirts and what not. They were great as a kid.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 3:57 pmRemember when the club used to do 'open days'? I remember going to a couple in the mid 1990's. The sleep under the stars is an annual event to raise money for charity. I did it for Pendleside Hospice.
