Scary to see how many Burnley fans now claim they turned on Dyche because we had a poor transfer window (not Dyche's fault), some injuries (not Dyche's fault) and Tarkowski wasn't fit enough to play (not Dyche's fault) after we qualified for Europe (Dyche's fault).
Perfectly acceptable to feel underwhelmed with our approach to the Europa League, and it isn't a recent thing. Many fans were disappointed at the time. Not all entirely Dyche's fault, who's saying it was? But he was hardly exuding much enthusiasm for it was he. It was a lost opportunity. If we're fortunate enough to be in a similar situation in the next season or two then much points to a different, more positive, approach to it.

To save me picking through the thread, the post above mine literally claims Dyche "threw" Europe

Semantics. It was Prem as a priority and any cup game was a distraction. Not saying his hand wasn't forced in that approach but it's difficult to look at the teams and tactics in those games and not see it as a missed opportunity.

I can't be convinced that taking someone at their word is semantics.

I don't think we did well in the Europa League, I'm just saying people both stripping the context away and claiming they turned on Dyche because of it is scary.

It's semantics but okay. I don't think people saying Dyche's approach to the Europa League was disappointing automatically means they're "stripping the context away." Wasn't all his fault, of course, but he was pretty dour about the whole thing and performances reflected that. Much of the buzz of the previous few seasons went for me after that summer and those fixtures.

It’s all been done before but I still find it odd that people said the rot set in after that European campaign.
We had an excellent second half of the season and came 15th.
The season after we finished 10th. Thirteen points off a third place finish.

The season after was covid season - it was a freak season all round, should almost have an asterisk next to it

The league finished almost as you’d expect.
Only two noticeable exceptions, Sheff U, who had an excellent start before Covid and us.

Conditions were the same for all teams.

It was another excellent season under Dyche.

Why?

Same for everyone. Pathetic if some clubs couldn't deal with playing in empty stadiums as well as others.
