Wouldn't say well on top by any stretch
It’s a Boycott approved cliche but always got to wait for both teams to bat. Momentum well and truly back with us though.

But for the two easy dropped catches , they wouldn't of made 150 . The yorkie lads owe us some runs !!

263/9

Looking OK, but I'd save any triumphalism until we've got something on the board ourselves.

As I said earlier, this is the first result pitch of the series..

Very good bowling performance with Wood showing what a difference pace and control make. The Aussie bowlers will want to ball on this wicket, we need to bat well with no silly shots, please.

England well on top.

Be interesting this innings. The Aussies have set defensive fields so far for our aggressive batting. Will they back their bowlers this time?

Will be a lot of boundaries if anyone gets going.

Carey got very lucky with the catch. Just held on with his finger tips.

It's a tough shot for Duckett to play being so small, especially with any pace and bounce.

It was flagged up before the series that Duckett plays at virtually every ball. The Aussies know this.
It's very high risk against a good attack, and I have been surprised how he has actually scored a good number of runs with that technique against this attack. Maybe he's run out of luck??

Crawley gifts his wicket away faaaaaaaaar to easily. There is a good batsman in there somewhere but at times he's bloody braindead.

Surprised we didn't chuck a night watchman in like Wood and keep him fresh for tomorrow (when I assume England will be back bowling on this fast wicket). He's had a cracking day.

Got tickets for tomorrow and really looking forward to it.

Just hoping Root, Bairstow or Stokes (preferably all 3) can produce another of those legendary Headingley Ashes test innings.

I really hope England's middle order can perform today, but I fear that the Aussies will roll us over for 150.
Root needs to make amends for Marsh's 100.

What a test series-the pendulum swings every hour, and has done so since the start of the first test.Great shame the English early batsmen could not create a strong start but the Aussie pace attack are very savvy to our batting weaknesses

I share your concerns. When we look back on this series, yesterday is yet another day when we missed our chances. Australia would most likely have struggled to make 150 had we taken our chances.
Very small margins in this series, and we've missed out.

Anything resembling 1st innings parity would be a massive boost...some of yesterday's glee on here may well be tempered by a visit from Mr Reality today though.

Make no mistake, this is a result pitch. It had to be because a draw leaves the ashes with Australia. We need a fair wind now and the best of the breaks coupled with an awareness of just where that 5th stump is. That, coupled with a modicum of nous, may force the Aussies to bowl at the stumps and allow us to push on towards 250.

Another sequence of hot-headed brain farts from our middle/late order could see us bowling again around tea time with a deficit to think about.

Very hard to call. Aussies slight favourites for now.
