Rovers living in fantasy land
Re: Rovers living in fantasy land
Yeah. 15 goals hahaha
Re: Rovers living in fantasy land
Barnes would've been an excellent signing for them.
Re: Rovers living in fantasy land
Barnes wouldn't go there, why join a relegation battle.

They'll be lucky if the whole team scores 15 goals next season

Well - of course, you may be his brother, and fully aware of all Ashley’s thought, views and opinions.
I don’t know him at all as an individual, but I know he is a professional footballer, with a robust, physical approach to the game, who is nearing the end of his career.Perhaps if he had received a good financial offer from any Championship club, which meant he didn’t even need to think about moving his family home, he would have been tempted.
Players are employees. Fans are fans.
See - Mo Johnson, Ashley Cole, Lee Clark, Robin Van Persie…….
Re: Rovers living in fantasy land
Somewhere on their board, one of the Rovers fans said he had been talking to a Championship manager who said Barnes was wanted by every team in the Championship but most couldn't afford the £25k a week that he wanted. Not sure how true that is but it does sound right. I could see a lot of teams wanting him, especially on a free.

Re: Rovers living in fantasy land
Tbf even with a decent signing on fee, spread over his contract that's not half bad. I suspect he's on closer to 40k p/w all told at Norwich
Re: Rovers living in fantasy land
Surprised we let him go. Pl experience and played great in VK system.

£25k basic plus bonusses would make it more like £50k per week.ŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 3:23 pmTbf even with a decent signing on fee, spread over his contract that's not half bad. I suspect he's on closer to 40k p/w all told at Norwich
Reminds me of the Conroy/Heath spat played out on Radio Lancs back in the 1990s. Conroy moaning that he was ONLY getting £850 per week and Heath then phoning in to say that was more than doubled every week by all the different bonus payments. He mentioned league position, result, appearance, goals, appearances in the team of the week alongside a couple of other things.

Re: Rovers living in fantasy land
Pardon? Barnes had little or nothing to offer 2 years ago in the PL. What chance now? He scored 4 goals last season in the Championship and 2 of those were in one game. Many defenders score more. I cannot imagine many Championship clubs chomping at the bit to sign him, other than for him being free. Be interesting to see how he goes on at Norwich and I really hope he does well but I’m not gonna hold my breath.

Wasn't that Kurt Nogan ?bfcmik wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 3:30 pm£25k basic plus bonusses would make it more like £50k per week.

I'm going to stick my neck out here, with absolutely nothing to back it up and say that Ashley Barnes would not tarnish his legacy here by signing for them just for a few extra grand a week. No chance.

Anyone who thinks barnes wouldn’t go to rovers if the money was right are thick as pig sh*t.
Listen to any football podcast. Players do not care about loyalty like fans. The vast majority are in it to earn a living.
Barnes would have not problem playing for rovers and would celebrate if he score the winner for them at turf moor.

Re: Rovers living in fantasy land
"If the money was right" isn't a fair measure- of course there is a price for everything...but I know for a fact the majority of players (not all) care about their legacy too. It would cost more than Blackburn can afford for Barnes to give up his Clarets status. Ask him.Inchy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 7:01 pmAnyone who thinks barnes wouldn’t go to rovers if the money was right are thick as pig sh*t.

Norwich have taken him because he's free, has the experience they need and also because he's undoubtedly a great person to have in the changing room.houseboy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 3:40 pmPardon? They may not be expecting many goals from him, they're more about what he brings to the team overall
They've made a couple of signings like that

Re: Rovers living in fantasy land
Can't believe how naive some folk are. Barnes isn't a Burnley fan, if Rovers offered him a better deal than anyone else he'd be there.
Re: Rovers living in fantasy land
He scored 6 league and 1 cup goals, sharing duties with Rodriguez. (It was usually one or the other, not both.)houseboy wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 3:40 pmPardon? Oh dear and we would have missed him knocking a certain goalkeeper in the net and scoring two in the same game. Your comment is a bit ridiculous.

A marvellous memory for sure - but Pickles has it right, 2 seasons too long, although he did fit the Dyche system well.
Re: Rovers living in fantasy land
I think all comments on the lines of "last season would have been better if ..." are pretty much null and void. Last season was fantastic, Barnes was part of that. Let's not go back in time to try and change it!

Re: Rovers living in fantasy land
Ashley was superb for us and instrumental in our promotion. Defenders hate him and with good reason.
I met Ashley after our game away at Rotherham towards the end of the season. Traffic was bad and kids were desperate to wait for the players.
He said that the rovers game at home was one of his proudest days, and he loved it. He laughed when I brought up the infamous interview and said that got him in a lot of trouble, but was smiling.
He finished by saying, let's go to their place next week and do it again!!
There is no room for sentiment in football, it's a business. I don't think that Ash was done, he gave it his all for as long as he could, and left making sure we were Champions.
Always be a Claret.

Also since the post Kaminski has gone to Luton and reported Phillips will sign for Spurs this weekend.
Out of their signings Tronstad has struggled to finish 90 mins in pre-season due to hamstring issues and Sigurdsson is out for 8 weeks due to groin injury.
Re: Rovers living in fantasy land
Are you sure they didn't mean Harvey barnes? They are, after all, a massive club.
