Hopefully he smashes it then they buy him next summer.
Certainly better for all that he never comes back.

Is that it that it then...or does he still have another year left on his Burnley contract end of 2023/24 season?

It’s a relief because he’s become a distraction.
We need to replace him though.

I’m not convinced that keeping around would be a bad thing on a football basis alone it’s everything else around him being here. The fans have turned and he will no doubt be aware of this.

Re: ARTICLE: Wout Out Again
Can't say I'm hugely disappointed, some fans have never forgiven him for being shouted at by Connor Roberts. The worrying thing is that we've lost our best centre forward and now find ourselves now weaker in this department than last season. Hopefully this will make room for another signing.

Re: ARTICLE: Wout Out Again
Smart move to go back to Germany where he’s had success in the past. If he has a decent season there then it’s probably our best chance of selling him for a fee come next summer.
Nobody was ever going to buy a guy who had scored as few goals as he has playing for United.

Re: ARTICLE: Wout Out Again
Best all round. Had we not managed to get him out, I doubt very much whether he would have played for us, clearly not in VK's plans. Had a couple of good games when he came but by the end of that relegation season I wouldn't have given him a game in the reserves.

Boo boys will be happy. Who’s the next target?
All seriousness probably the right move tbh. I backed Kompany fully on this one either way.
Not sure about this need to replace him personally. Think a winger/forward, like the linked Lukebokia, is what we need, someone who can cover wide and central.

Not sure about that, Weghorst seems to have garnered quite a lot of hatred which I'm certain isn't solely down to his ability. I also find a lot of the critics and abusers to be massive hypocrites.

He's basically said thanks and goodbye to United on his instagram. Blokes tapped, good riddance, he's done nothing but split the club since last summer. Can't fault him for doing what's best for him and his career regarding playing in the World Cup and then United, but he must have known he was never going to be wholly welcomed back. Better for us all to forget about him and hopefully sell him next summer for minimal losses.

Re: ARTICLE: Wout Out Again
Judging by the time of the release of his (very strange) goodbye message for Man United fans (Referencing the memory of scoring his first old trafford goal.... or as others might call it, his only old trafford goal), then I suspect we can expect a thanks for the memories video around Christmas time.
Re: ARTICLE: Wout Out Again
Pretty sure the fans were not in VK’s mind when the decision was made. He obviously doesn’t think he’s good enough and from what I’ve seen I have to agree.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 9:13 amCan't say I'm hugely disappointed, some fans have never forgiven him for being shouted at by Connor Roberts. It’s interesting that people are already interpreting the move as further evidence that he didn’t want to be here.
It’s entirely possible VK just didn’t want him for the season ahead. VK is ruthless.
We’ll never know unless either party comes out and says it.

One of those that I couldn't care less about, I didn't think he was anywhere near good enough, I didn't see anything from him that suggested he'd score 2-3 goals this season let alone 10

Re: ARTICLE: Wout Out Again
I’m not quite clear as to why people are celebrating the leaving of what is our only striker as such, apart from Jay who sadly seems past his best. I’ve discovered over the years that, especially on here, Claret fans seem to be an unforgiving lot. So he left to make sure he played in the World Cup, so what. I think some people need to get over themselves.

I know this forum is all about opinions blah blah blah but come on.
The guys attitude stinks. If you need the fair to Germany Wout give me a call!
No. He's never been forgiven for his dummy spitting attitude about not playing in the Championship. As CT's report alludes to, he had the opportunity to keep Burnley in the Premier League. Connor Roberts was saying what the vast majority of us were thinking or saying to each other.
He was NEVER going to be our centre forward this season, just like he wasn't last season.

I think there's far more to it than him leaving to play in the World Cup - my view, from what info I've gleaned, is that Burnley Football Club is a better place without him.houseboy wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 9:43 amI’m not quite clear as to why people are celebrating the leaving of what is our only striker as such, apart from Jay who sadly seems past his best. Re: ARTICLE: Wout Out Again
A bad egg and not good enough for us or PL football. A distraction we don’t need. Surprising nobody thinks he’s worth a fee that’s acceptable to the club.
Re: ARTICLE: Wout Out Again
It does make me laugh though when people cite Connor Roberts as a reason the fans have turned on Weghorst. Up until the World Cup break, Roberts was hardly receiving a good press himself with Burnley fans with a fair few accusing him of not giving his all for us and being desperate to return to Swansea. Roberts returned, gave an honest interview (which again wasn't met with a unanimously warm reception) and then turned in some top performances which earned him lots of credit after the incident.
It's all quite simple really. Weghorst is not very good for the level we bought him to play at and, in the limited communication he has given, he's not made a good impression. That bit is on him and not Connor Roberts.

Older generations had the likes of George Beel, Ray Pointer and Willie Irvine as their striking icons. We have been lucky enough to see Wout Weghorst take his place amongst the pantheon of great Burnley centre forwards.
I'm not sure what i will miss most. His searing pace, aerial prowess, or his sheer joie de vivre.

That doesn't really make sense. Whether he was going to play or not he was still our best centre forward, and we've lost him. When Tarks left he was never going to play for us again, but we still lost our best defender.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 9:46 amWe haven't lost our best centre forward because he was never going to play

Weghorst
Positives: Tries hard, has a fairly good footballing brain. Mentally tough?
Negatives: Bit of a sulker, not a team player (from the outside looking in), over hypes himself, not good at "reading the room", can't head the ball, slow, can't shoot, misses big chances.
It's a massive relief for all concerned that his energy sapping aura has now left our squad.

Re: ARTICLE: Wout Out Again
If you think he was our best centre forward then I can assure you we don't look at football in the same way. People say he didn't fit a Dyche system, he very definitely wouldn't have fit a Kompany system.
As for Tarkowski, yes we did lose our best defender but we have not lost our best anything with Weghorst going. He just wasn't good enough to play for us at this level.

Re: ARTICLE: Wout Out Again
You've made my point quite nicely thanks. Where was this dummy spitting attitude about not playing in the Championship? This has literally been fabricated in your mind.bf2k wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 9:46 amNo. He's never been forgiven for his dummy spitting attitude about not playing in the Championship. Plenty of Burnley players have turned in below par performances and have not received anywhere near the levels of abuse that WW has, so it is fairly simple to deduce that these people are doing so for reasons other than just football ability. Lots of people refer to the spat with Roberts, which was purely of Robert's making, so lets not pretend that this isn't a factor - even if it isn't for you. Him leaving upon relegation is another factor, but plenty of other players did the same last summer yet don't get a mention.
Like I say, a lot of hypocrites on here who will jump on posters for daring to be critical of the performances of other players.
