FAO Foodcounters

Post by Claretmisterg » Wed Aug 23, 2023 9:52 am

Hi all. As the attempt to have the winners of the previous count perform the next count has failed miserable we are in need of a volunteer to take up the mantle for the Avila game. Otherwise we face the very real possibility of proceeding with the football game when no food has been counted. This undoubtedly does not auger well for achieving a satisfactory result from the game. Don’t just step forward and be counted but step forward and be a counter. Who shall take up the challenge ?

I would offer but on holiday until the weekend. Everyone should take their turn. It’s very frustrating (as far as a lighthearted game is concerned). Come on folks, roll up, roll up.

I would have had a go myself, never done it before as the official counter, but I go away on Friday evening so not possible this time.

Sorry can't do this or next one as I'm away both weekends.

Happy to put my name down to do the Forest PL match on 18/9.

Am also busy this week and haven't got time sorry.

Also I think I did over a 3rd of the counts last season ... so its time for some new blood anyway.

If no-one else is able to do this week's count then I will do it - but as I work at Turf Moor I will be unable to do the actual count etc until after the match, at least two hours after. Is this acceptable??

It would be good if we could get a rota going for future games. I am ok to keep the points totals up to date this season.

Looking at the fixtures up to the 1st break we have 2 volunteers so far. Cheers both. The fixtures are

27/08 Villa (h) - BigF
30/08 Forest (a) LC -
02/09 Spurs (h) -
18/09 Forest (a) - canalsideClaret
23/09 ManU (h) -
30/08 Newcastle (a) -
07/10 Chelsea (h) -

If we could have some volunteers to fill in the blanks that would be great.

URGENT

My internet account has picked up some malware which is sending out many many messages etc. An automatic block/blacklist has kicked in which means that I can not place a food count on line. (This is nothing to do with Up the Clarets or the moderators).

Can anyone else help out with this week's count whilst I try to sort out my issue?
Sorry

I can do the count for the next game on 27/08

As long as somebody else updates the running scores, not sure what's involved with that or how to equate guesses to points 😭

I'm going to try again but with a badge rather than a food item

It seemed to be accepted. This is all very strange.

Cheers Croydon Claret. Awarding the points is at your discretion as the counter. For instance you could award 10 points for an exact guess otherwise 5 for nearest, but can be varied dependent upon difficulty of the item under consideration.

As BC said I will maintain the running scores.

Here’s to an epic count.

I can do the ManU game on 23/09. We now have

27/08 Villa (h) - Croydon Claret
30/08 Forest (a) LC -
02/09 Spurs (h) -
18/09 Forest (a) - canalsideClaret
23/09 ManU (h) - Claretmisterg
30/08 Newcastle (a) - BossCat
07/10 Chelsea (h) -

Can we have 3 more volunteers for the remaining games up to the 1st break ? That would be excellent.

18/09 Forest (a) - canalsideClaret
23/09 ManU (h) - Claretmisterg
30/08 Newcastle (a) - BossCat

I think the counter should receive 3 points for each food count done. If you agree with this then please let me know by liking this post. If we get consensus (5 likes or more) then I will retrospectively update the points table. Please let me know what you think.

I duno, 3 points is quite a lot but it's also a bit annoying that you can't enter your own comp due to obvious reasons

Just leave it as is, I say. Most people do at least one count anyway.

Anyway put me down for Brentford - I think i'm free but I'll confirm later today

I will do the Palace Game 4/11 if no one else has come forward.
You can’t enter your own count, so a points reward for hosting is a good offer.

I don’t know if the way I set out my count helps anyone, but I do everything in one day. Take each picture I need and save them, that’s the offering, the drainage and the count. Then just upload them at the appropriate time. That way I only have to check in at certain times to log peoples guesses. I don’t always have time to drain and count on match day. I hope this admission hasn’t opened a can of worms……..

I hope this admission hasn’t opened a can of worms……..
as long as there is no "insider trading" I don`t think it matters....

I felt sorry for claretblue yesterday, as they had missed me saying I was bringing the count forward as I was off to Airedale ... they missed out on 3 points too but rules is rules.

No worms in that can Eloise just beans/peas/fruit etc ;)

Your replies Bosscat & Tarky ears has cleared my conscious  just thought it might give someone an idea that stepping up to do a count, needn’t be difficult.
