Any tackle by us was a yellow ( correctly ) but Villa was just a Fk. Not blaming him for result but he was very inconsistent

The soft free kicks he kept giving were very annoying. No dreadful decisions but there weren't any big calls to make.

He set his stall out with stopping play for a non-head injury and giving villa the ball back. Not remotely good enough to be a pub league ref, never mind the Premier league. Three deliberate handballs, no yellow cards. Amazing that they've let him back after his var nightmares, just shows how low the standard is.

He allowed their whining, time wasting and refusal to move backwards at free kicks. No idea about the drop ball nonsense. Inconsistent with offside. Ours pulled and their's were played on. **** big club ref. Typical of the EPL.

The directive from the PGMOL was that any player who waved an imaginary card towards the referee should be booked.

Douglas Luiz, McGinn and Digne all did so today and none were booked.

Poor referee again.

As has been said further up the thread, he ignored the PGMOL directives regarding the waving of imaginary yellow cards. Salisbury is not a very good referee.

He is dire and worryingly has had worse games than this but the worst one today was the one where we were advancing on goal and he stopped it for a leg injury across the pitch then gave the Villa keeper the ball. There were others but that was the worst.

A Liverpool fan from Preston should have told you what to expect from this referee!

Very poor in what is supposedly the best league in the world. Tried to hard to be the players' mates. Set his stall out after two minutes and after that I just despaired quietly. I'm probably too old for his sh^&.now.

Decision Making 10
Consistency 20 consistently sh#£
Fitness and Positioning 15
Control and Authority 10 he let McGinn ref most of the game

As others have said, that stoppage for the non-head injury when we were attacking and then giving their keeper the ball was baffling. I'm sure he did it again later in the game but I could be wrong.

Their players doing the card waving thing and not getting booked was baffling.

Allowing gob-sh#£e McGinn to whinge and moan in his ear all game was baffling.

The very same hypocrite McGinn who threw himself to the floor a couple of times and was of course awarded very soft freekicks was as annoying as it was baffling.

All in all, welcome back to the big boys league. I'm absolutely delighted we're back but my God is it frustrating for a club like ours.

I’m away so was watching on tv but he seemed to favour them in every marginal call.

Started with the none head injury and then I think it was Konsa who disagreed with a decision, ran off with the ball to stop a quick free kick, a yellow no questions asked under the new directive and nothing given.

Our game finishes, on to Liverpool at Newcastle and TAA gets rightly booked in line with the new directives but then two minutes later commits another obvious bookable offence and the ref bottles sending him off on the basis it’s two soft yellows.

The premier league referees are bloody awful.
