Squad Height and Poor Defence

Post by ClaretsPadiham » Sat Sep 30, 2023 6:29 pm

1) We’re too small in every position, we’re getting bullied every game, the Premierleague is known for its physicality and we have 0%. I don’t know the stats but I’m certain that we would be on average the smallest team in the league as well as youngest which we all know about.

2) The defence is terrible and they are all so slow. None of them are Premierleague level and none of them can play the way Kompany wants to against better players without getting found out and losing the ball. We did it in the Championahip but the step up in standard is huge.

Promising signs with some good attacking players but the defence is a major concern, so lightweight and slow. Beyer and Al Dakhil looked class in the Champinahip, in the Prem they are below average at best.

Worrying times ahead we can’t carry on playing how we do or we will finish bottom quite comfortably.

We used to go to the Etihad with a big team when Dyche was the manager, remind me what our record was like there?

Ameen Al-Dakhil wasn’t at his best today but he is anything but slow.

Newcastle are one of the best set piece teams in the league, how many did they score from today ?

Bit of a strange OP from a poster with some previous. Al-Dakhil has had a mixed start but he’s anything but slow. Also, the general consensus after last week’s 8-0 mauling was that Newcastle could cause some serious issues from set pieces with their height and physicality, but it didn’t really happen. Let’s be clear, they were more than worthy winners, but I don’t think the issues are what you’ve concluded with.

Some early thoughts…

We’ve played a lot of very good teams

We’re improving in a lot of areas

Our pace will hurt teams

We miss Foster

We probably have too many players

We need two excellent left backs

Trafford is not the problem

We will beat some teams with ease

Wow there are some folk who really need to give their head a wobble.

Yes we are struggling against teams from the top 8 of which we have played 5 of them ... with a new team of inexperienced young players ... ffs get behind them ... encourage them ...

Come on you Clarets

Largely agree, although that last one seems a long way off at present.

Trafford will make us quite a bumper profit in future transfer fees but there is a terrible amount of bellends on here who think Muric is a better keeper...football forums eh,every single man jack an expert.

Forget height, stats etc, cut out the mistakes get Foster in the 6 yard box and we start getting points

You won’t find many quicker CBs in the league than Al Dakhil. As for the defence being terrible, I think we look far more solid in the last 3 games since we’ve set on a back four.

Muric might even be the best distributor of a football on the planet, but I still have night mares about some of his comical decision making last season. At least Trafford has not had to go off inexplicably at HT for no explained reason after a nightmare of the first half

Exactly bottled it everytime he came under pressure,a poor goal keeper but not a bad footballer

And here you are offering an “expert” opinion that Trafford will be sold for a bumper profit.

The insult you’ve used in your post actually only applies to you.

Tbf KSR the rumours are Trafford is getting a full england call up in the next few weeks.

If that’s happens he’s likely to get sold for a substantial fee in the summer

Agree with most of that. I'd certainly happily trade in a few of our wingers for a left back and centre midfielder

Not seen anything yet to suggest being sold for, what, upwards of £30m to get a decent profit?

That’s not to say he won’t get there, and I really hope he does, but we need some realism injecting into this.

Unfortunately he hasn’t done anything this season to suggest we can make a profit off on him.

Squad height, stop worrying. Some of our boys are still growing and will be a bit taller by Tuesday.

Interestingly I believe Foderingham is the only English keeper that has a better PSxG stats.

Trafford ranks in the top of half of keepers for this stat.

Which is pretty impressive.

He’s also made on average 4.5 saves a game. Has to deal with on average 19 shots per game. With approx 8 shots on target a game.

I’ve said it before but Trafford is arguably our player of the season. Our goal is basically a free for all at the moment and he’s doing well to keep the goals down.

Joe Hart was a top keeper. A World class keeper. A lot of us said he wasn't a problem, SD was forced to change him, and it turned out he just might have been a problem after all.

Yes he was a good keeper, unfortunately that was all left behind once he joined us.

Trafford finally made a good save today but his distribution makes Pope look like David Beckham
