I don’t think that he will come back. When his loan spell is up, he will only have a few months left on his contract. I think?!?!?

Burnley's worst ever pound for pound buy ? ( and we've had some bad ones )

He's out on a Season long loan, and will have another 12 months under contract with us when it ends.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Mon Oct 16, 2023 10:08 pmI don’t think that he will come back. When his loan spell is up, he will only have a few months left on his contract. I think?!?!?

No, he signed in the January transfer window. His time here will finish at the end of 2024.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 16, 2023 10:19 pmHe's out on a Season long loan, and will have another 12 months under contract with us when it ends.

Re: Weghorst
We've possibly made back the majority of our transfer spend on him from loan fees too, so probably not our as bad an investment as originally assessed regarding a "pound for pound" signing, although alot of money for us to spend.
I'd say that honour (not including those who have only just signed this season) would have previously been held by someone like Jelle Vossen, Leon Cort or Lukas Jutkiewicz before Wout Weghorst became the undisputed champion.

Good shout.
Re: Weghorst
Was Vossen not the one that ended up going quite quickly for marginal profit. Seen to remember something about him moving to the rivals of the club we bought him from and people talking about us being a middle man in the deal.Foshiznik wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 10:49 amWe've possibly made back the majority of our transfer spend on him from loan fees too, so probably not our as bad an investment as originally assessed regarding a "pound for pound" signing, although alot of money for us to spend.

Re: Weghorst
Not sure how much we lost on Gibson, and we will never know.
However, it is reported that he went to Norwich for a decent fee, (Probably around £8 million), and we didn't pay anything like the full fee (reportedly £15 million) to Boro as I recall.
So although no loss is good, I don't think it was as huge a loss as some think.

It would be nice to have him play one last game in a Burnley shirt before he leaves, so the crowd can give him a proper send off (booing every time he touches the ball)

Leon Cort!.......thank you, i was trying to think of his name.Foshiznik wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 10:49 amWe've possibly made back the majority of our transfer spend on him from loan fees too, so probably not our as bad an investment as originally assessed regarding a "pound for pound" signing, although alot of money for us to spend.

Turned like an aircraft carrier, Brian Laws bought him i think.
Re: Weghorst
Leon Cort is the worst signing we've ever made for me. Needed experience and grit at the back for a relegation battle, wasted 1.5 million on an utter donkey who, if memory serves me correctly had never been booked before
He was absolutely crap and managed to get himself sent off for us when we got hammered at home off reading the next season.

He’d been booked before, just not for us.
Possibly because he never managed to get close enough to anyone.

He did well in the Bundesliga which is dog and duck compared to the Premierleague. The standard isn’t even close.

Re: Weghorst
He'd picked up a few bookings and one red card early in his career playing for Southend. What happens I suppose when the manager is not choosing the players although I never thought he was that bad. If you think he was the worst, there was a far worse defender at the club at the same time in David Edgar.Claret86 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 5:33 pmLeon Cort is the worst signing we've ever made for me. Re: Weghorst
From 5 appearances for Hoffenheim, Weghorst has an average Kicker mark of 3.40.
The best mark is 1 and the worst is 6 (as on German school reports)
There are obviously better average marks but his mark is not the worst (there are 8 squad players with worst average marks)

On Weghorst, funny looking back now at the people who wanted him in the team at Foster's expense.

Re: Weghorst
I stand corrected with his disciplinary record. I've obviously seen worse players play for burnley but a combination of the money spent on him, the expectation I had (that he's a solid premier league defender) and the situation we were in (relegation battle, need to tighten up at the back) meant he was absolutely crapClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 4:52 pmHe'd picked up a few bookings and one red card early in his career playing for Southend. Re: Weghorst
Surely the worst signing must be Remco van der Schaaf?
We may not have paid anything for him except his wages but he contributed nothing.

Re: Weghorst
He was but Barnes was good in the dressing room to add to that and not a disruptive influenceHoltyclaret wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 7:13 pmWasn’t Barnes exceptional for the team despite not scoring many 2nd half of last season?
Re: Weghorst
Barnes physical presence was good in a team with a number of smaller, lightweight players.
He's comparatively slow but offered some protection.
We no longer have that. It was a puzzle to me how Barnes contract wasn't renewed but Rodriguez got another twelve months of what is predominantly bench warming.
