He really is a class act.
Very complimentary about us.
Top bloke and still enjoying his football in his senior years.

To be fair he’s usually pretty fair and honest in defeat as well.

Would love to see his record against us as I'd be willing to bet he has 100% win rate, feel like he always beat dyches teams

Remember us being his Watford team 2-1 when Jackson was in charge but not many beyond that

Ah fair enough, I just seem to remember thinking his teams beat us all the time. Maybe the return leg will be our time to beat them. Hmm

He's a class act and a very intelligent bloke (which makes his decision to have Kane take corners for England baffling). The sort of manager who even if he couldn't do it at big sides (which I suspect is more to do with managing a squad full of large egos/attitudes than anything) he's always had the ability to take an unfancied side and make them effective.
Was chuffed to see him come out of retirement and it's a proper inspiration to see him still going strong, just wish it wasn't at our expense.

"Gentlemen" (plural)?.... or "Gentleman" .
But yes, he knows how to read a game and rip apart a tactically naive team.

Roy always been a well mannered all round decent chap . Hugely respected in the game and it’s great to see him still going strong .

That he still gives the identical same team talk to Palace “ get the ball to Wilf” despite Wilf leaving last season is of little importance.

Was it Roy's instruction to his captain to turn us around today so we attacked the Jimmy McIroy end in the first half?

He's one of the good guys in football for sure. I suspect some of his motivation was designed to give a young manager a bit of encouragement and perhaps take a bit of pressure off the result for Kompany. At least it wouldn't surprise me, it's well known kompany works his nuts off whatever folk on here think of him.

I think too many football fans are snobs when it comes to the style of play at times.

Along comes Pep Guardiola and everyone thinks total football should be played out from the back come what may.

Yet there has to be a time and place for that. Palace have got a great manager who realises the limits of their side and plays accordingly. It works, gets results and is the reason why he's been a top manager for so long.

Anyone who continues to play that obnoxious cheat Jordan Ayew cannot be a gentleman.

I don't think some people doubt kompanys work ethic but it's what it translates to that's the problem. It is possible to be a very hard worker & to try your best but not be very effective in your line of work.

Give over. Your comment was up there with some of the worst drivel on here. Anyway, well done, because it sure takes some doing given the competition.

Hahaha. Give over. I've just read his comments- he says if ee keep playing like this not many teams will leave Turf with 3 points. I'm not sure that's really true so he's either losing it a bit or he wants us to keep going with that so more teams take points and that's one less relegation spot to worry about

Tale as old as time.
In the 80s- 90s, people were for either Cruyff-style 433 or classic Italian catenaccio after Football Italia put their league on the map over here and they had several good tournaments.

Late 90s, early 00s when Ferguson was dominating you saw a revival in 442 and people seeing it as an attacking formation all of a sudden.
Along comes Mourinho, suddenly 41212 diamond formation is the only way to play and has solved football.
Couple years after that 433's back in vogue thanks to Barca.
Now Pep and to a lesser degree Klopp, and Pep's legion of apprentices, have everyone thinking there's no other method to play again but look at how many teams are signing big centreforwards over 6 foot again- Haaland, Nunez, Hojlund, Barcelona signed Lewandowski who's even less of a 'Barca style' player than Zlatan. Inter Milan gave City a damn good run of it in the ECL final with an aging squad built around physicality, there's already a trend shifting back towards having a big target man just ideally one with some mobility and technical skill- give it 3-4 years and someone like Peter Crouch would be seen as the perfect 'modern forward'. Irony being so much of Pep & Klopp's approach is a revist of 50s & 60s football & formations, WM, WW, 235, but with modern fitness coaching and the concept of in and out of possession shapes (which isn't that revolutionary either, teams have flexed width and employed half-and-half positions for decades, the Italian & German leagues have positions that don't fit into English position classifications).

Savvy managers recognise that trends are trends and adapt and evolve. Ancelotti does it, Mourinho does it to some extent, Roy's been around long enough he's had to. Pep as good as he is has never needed to adapt because he's always had such an oversized budget compared to everyone else in whatever league he manages that he can assemble a team under his vision, Newcastle are the team most likely to force him to rethink over the next couple years because of Saudi money. There's no 1 magic bullet that solves football.

And he will say similar about Luton, Sheff Utd and Bournemouth

Was anyone really expecting him to slag us off as certain for relegation

It's called diplomacy :)

I think Hodgson was being genuine, and probably trying to defend a young manager who is obviously under pressure. He was very fair and honest to say that the second goal flattered them and didn't reflect the game.

Roy has no need to be diplomatic at his age and stage in his career. He’s not after another job or trying to impress anyone !!
He knows his Palace side were below par yesterday and he appreciated that we played well.
Nothing more than that.
