Ormstein said loanNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 9:45 pmYou would imagine though that foster will play the majority of the remaining games.
It’s certainly an interesting signing (if we get him, you would imagine Fofana will be start majority of games) and that will result in a change in tactics.
Two big strong, quick forwards up top honestly makes a lot of sense for our style of play. I think this signing is exactly what we have been calling for. Someone to form a successful partnership with Foster.
(As a side note, I think I misread it, it doesn’t mention a loan deal to us. So potentially it’s a permanent deal?) that would be a really exciting signing if true.

Not sure he’s the right type of player to play of the right. Looks very much like an out and out centre forward123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 9:56 pmUnless he’s going to play the tella role from the right

Bit of a strange one when VK just said he wants players that are PL standard.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 9:55 pmInteresting.

I'm guessing a replacement for Jay, shows how difficult it must be to attract players that are PL ready given our position.

I think Obafemi would count as home grown.
Churlinov was the one who sneaked in at the 11th hour.

Obafemi is 23 now, not sure when TBH.
Plenty think Churlinov is off so I suppose there's a spare space.
But I hope we bring in some experience for the spine of the team which may mean dropping someone out of the current squad.

Seems to have the pace of Tella and decent dribbling but his finishing is meant to be a bit suspect.
Back up to Lyle I suspect.

Hoping Foster isn’t injured or unwell and this is competition and or much needed reinforcement up top. Looks to have plenty of pace . This is his chance to show Chelsea what’s he’s capable of in this league! Let’s hope he shines
Re: January transfer window rumours.
A Chelsea fan i know has said we have got a top young gem that will be a big big talent in a few years
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Loan deal, so surely game time part of it. Would either mean Foster is hurt? or we are looking at him partnering Foster up top? - which is interesting....
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Hopefully doesn't mean Foster injury is worse than they're letting on.

Not wanting to dampen the excitement and it’s probably just me but I’m not really a fan of loans with no option. Basically another Maatsen/Tella situation destined to happen here - we turn him in to a player they can sell for millions.
Also wouldn’t have put striker as top priority but accept he adds some extra strength and pace to the squad so an improvement.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Dervisoglu didn’t get any game time… but accept that’s the exception rather than the rule.
Given his scoring record, I wouldn’t be a big fan of him taking minutes off Lyle or Amdouni really, so going to be an interesting one.
Kompany did suggest he didn’t see any signings making an instant impact but more squad strengthening, which is maybe what this is.

If we were signing Reiss Nelson (someone more established), I get it, just less so someone so young and with not the best scoring record - lot of potential though by the looks of things.
Anyway, like you say, if Kompany wants him & he plays a role in keeping us up we just have to go with it.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Whether Foster is injured or not, what we have seen is how reliant we are on him being our number nine.
If we do nothing and sign nobody then we are playing russian roulette with our survival chances, no matter how genuine we believe they are.
If we start winning home games then we have a fair chance of pulling off the miracle, we won't do that without scoring goals.
It's a no brainer to sign a player like him when the opportunity arises.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Loans are probably our best bet.
We've already spent a load in summer.
It was difficult to attract players when most thought we'd stay up, it has to be even harder now.
We have a short term problem, that requires a short term fix.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
He’s been pulled from his loan to union due to a lack of game time. (600 minutes in the first half of the season). I would be absolutely amazed if there were not conditions to the loan around game time.NewClaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 11:45 pmAgree loans are always going to have to be mutually beneficial.

I suspect he’s being brought in to partner Foster up top. If I’m honest if that is the case I think it’s a great move. Will dramatically help us (I sometimes feel foster is isolated and goes searching for the ball).
Re: January transfer window rumours.
A sensible signing if true in the sense that he may be able to help us be more competitive in attack in the short term without us spending £15-20 million quid with relegation now highly likely. A short term gamble that won’t break the bank.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Papa Gueye (Marseille, holding midfield)
Gerzino Nyamsi (Strasbourg, centre half)
Both been linked today, add Fofana up front and it looks like a new big strong spine identified

Gueye is big and strong though and likes a tackle but is mainly a holding midfielder so if we sign Fofana too I'm not sure what system we will go with unless Fofana can play off the right.
Gueye and Berge would be some unit in the middle behind Amdouni though

Promising signs of we pull these three off in that we've identified the correct missing pieces.
Yes we need new full backs but Taylor is more than good enough, right back we have a few options that we could use until the summer if we have this spine

I just can’t see him playing off the right. Very much looks like and out and out centre forward.
I had a Quick Look at the positions he’s played in his career, he’s played centre forward in 99% of games with a two or three coming on the left wing.

He'd be the main striker then. Chelsea will want a guarantee on game time but can't see us dropping Foster for him

(Tbh only reason I didn’t go for Beyer was because of his injuries this season)
Similar with Brownhill, I think he’s just naturally the player to come out. We aren’t going to drop Berge.
