There's massive losses and then massive losses though, isn't there? The amount Venky's are plugging into Rovers is obscene.aggi wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 10:49 amVirtually every team in the Championship runs at massive losses, it's nothing to do with the owners (other than they all keep subsidising it). For the past 5 years total wages in the Championship have been higher than total revenues.
Preston are a good example, generally around mid-table each year but still need big subsidies from their owner.

Bless them they live on a cloud… the Everton fiasco has obviously gone unnoticed by our neighbours. It will likely get far worse for them long before it starts to improve.

Yeah I agree, although I don't like the idea of handing c£20m over to them either.
Re: Get ready for protests down the M65
They're about mid-table in annual losses. Preston make bigger losses.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 1:16 pmThere's massive losses and then massive losses though, isn't there? The amount Venky's are plugging into Rovers is obscene.
If they manage to sell Wharton for £18.5m they'll be making a profit.

Losses and debts are OK as long as they are sustainable. When Venkys stop pumping in the money... its bye bye.
They can sell Wharton, £18m in the bank... where does that money go... back into the team's development or paying off debts? They'll have to hope for another Wharton to come through the ranks again, again, and again just to keep their head above water.
Rovers need promotion to the Premier League for Venkys even to consider cashing out.

Your assumption that the Venkys will be allowed to keep putting money is questionable. There are several investigations into their business activities… India is not happy about the figures going out of India for foreign investments.
Selling to survive. Not unlike Burnley model during the sixties and seventies… then came the eighties when the sellable assets dried up

It's OK... but the longer they stay at that level, it'll never increase.
Here are Burnley averages since promotion in 1999/2000 - it was between 12-16k - it comes from transfermarkt, I am not sure how accurate, but it looks about right to me

Re: Get ready for protests down the M65
True. But that's the case for most of the Championship. It's an amazingly unsustainable league with teams just racking up more and more debt on the way to, hopefully, promotion.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 3:21 pmLosses and debts are OK as long as they are sustainable. The "well run" clubs like Brighton and Brentford still came up with debts as generally that's what happens in that league.
Re: Get ready for protests down the M65
Wait till they sign Jimmy Dunne from QPR..... that'll send them over the edge
Re: Get ready for protests down the M65
To be fair the Venky’s are truly clueless and if they owned Burnley we would do anything to get them out of our club.

Re: Get ready for protests down the M65
They were clueless initially; they were the face behind shady characters such as Jerome Anderson, etc. They had taken some terrible advice, and others benefited from it. They showed some loyalty to Steve Kean for some reason, too, but as soon as he went, all the rackett seemed to go away with him.
If Venkys re-engaged with Blackburn Rovers and had someone representing them, they'd win the fans over. I think that's what Shebby Singh's role was supposed to be, but his Global Advisor Role got to his head. But when things are going OK on the pitch, there's no hassle from the supporters. Maybe a bit of public leadership, presence and encouragement from Venkys might help the management and the team more.
The fans know deep down that they are stuck with Venkys - and the Venkys are stuck with Blackburn Rovers.

Re: Get ready for protests down the M65
They now have the TV gantry IN the Riversde, so that TV viewers can’t see that particular abortion of a stand. It makes fantastic viewing now, as armchair fans can only see the large 2 tier stands built with Jacks’ money, more than 2/3 empty. It’s hilarious, as they also put the away fans in the corner of Darwen End, adjacent to the Riverside, ala the Burnley game last season, so it looks like there isn’t anybody there. Complete joke of a club. Long live the Venkys.maccclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 8:39 amWould the banner not need to be in the Riverside Stand to be seen by the TV cameras and unleash it's full terrifying effects?

Re: Get ready for protests down the M65
Venkys are archetypes of 'sunk cost fallacy'.
They continue to fund Rovers because
A) they hope to recoup some or all of the money they've wasted on Rovers by returning to the PL
B) Because owning them has been useful in terms of getting around all sorts of tax implications.
It looks like the Indian government are beginning to look at foreign investment a lot more closely and are expected to produce new laws that tighten up the way money leaves the country.
So reason B) may well be removed from them in the relatively near future, or at least made so complex and risky for it not to be worthwhile.
If/When that happens they're going to have to wake up to the 'sunk cost fallacy' and consider whether it's worth throwing good money after bad chasing after the golden goose of the PL. Probably the only thing that can save them Is getting to the PL and staying there for a hell of a spell to make it back into an attract proposition for Venkys.
It's that far fetched to my mind it's not even up for debate. When Venkys call it a day they are absolutely rubber ducked. The only debate is the orders of magnitude they are rubber ducked.
I really hope that they don't go under. It's better to have them under our boot than never playing them again imo. A rivalry with Preston to fill the gap is about as spicy as a wet fart by comparison

Re: Get ready for protests down the M65
I really can’t see any end game for the Venkys. What’s the clubs debt to them £170m ish?
So you’re looking at promotion, surviving and stable in the prem for a few years for the club to be worth that, and even then they only get back what they have invested upto now, no actual profit. And that is in no way feasible in the next 5 years, by which time that debt might be 200m+
I’m going to make an assumption (maybe incorrectly) that the wheels can be greased in an Indian court so it may not have a detrimental effect, I suppose it depends how deep they are willing to look - a small amount of research could devise that this is in no way a “foreign investment”.
No end game for the venkys unless they are going to walk away from a fortune, but also for the fans, do you want rid of them, because without them funding the club this is another Reading/Bolton/Bury situation.
Seemingly this is an unhappy marriage that needs to continue out of necessity.

Re: Get ready for protests down the M65
BBC reporting Wharton is going to Palace for an initial £18m - is that a clue that they expect further investment will be limited? Or just a sensible sale of an asset at its peak value (which they have historically been poor at).

A blooming good bit of business that. Fair play.

How much will go to the club and how much to the Venkys? Might be the start of a fire sale. Hope they sell Brockall, then it's obvious they see out.

What I'm going to say is nothing new but bcos I enjoy the simpletons current predicament I'm going to say it anyway ...
We want our roverrrrrrs back / get them nasty venkys out of ourrrrrrr club etc etc scream the fiddlers whilst waving a tiny little home made bed sheet banner. That'll tell em.
Whilst the venkys have managed the club terribly (or fantastically well if you're a Claret) what cannot be denied, is that they have saved them financially, that's obvious to even the most deluded shadsworth knuckle dragger. Without them they'd be fkooked. Hopefully they might still be.
So it's quite simple really isn't it. Have a whip round int bburrrrrn end, cough up 200M and the shi-te show is all yours boys. Any takers ?? Thought not.
As you were then.

Re: Get ready for protests down the M65
What the Rovers fans are hoping for seems to be based on two assumptions.
1. Administration. Venkys walk away and rovers effectively start again from whatever league they find themselves in. Other clubs have done it.
2. Venkys Actually decide to cut their losses. Obviously no one in their right mind would pay the Venkys what the club technically owe the Venkys . However there probably are people ( as we know) willing to invest in a football club ( and one with a history and pedigree to be fair). So it would be down to how much the Venkys are prepared to write off!
Of course these assumptions are based on normal logical behaviour and it’s fair to say that the Venkys don’t appear to understand this concept. They seem perfectly happy to just let things meander on in the aimless way it is at the moment.

Matt65 and his mate are 'better' than battering a 78 year old bloke even though they are presumably in the same stand, of the same ground, of the same team that they all support, and the 78 year old is correct and had his daughter (?) with him.
Well done all round, matt65, very well done.

Just to cheer us all up. Their Championship record since Dec 1st is 1-2-8, that is 5 points from 33 and they’ve sold their best player.
Against the bottom 4 their results are:
2-12 Sheff Wed A L 3-1
26-12 Huddersfield A L 3-0
1-1. Rotherham H D 2-2
20-1 Huddersfield H D 1-1
3-2. QPR H L 1-2
They are in deep doodoos on the field and off.
