If Kompany had of played for Klopp

Post by bfcjg » Fri Feb 02, 2024 9:29 am

How do you think his football philosophy would be ? ( this isn't a pop at Kompany, last season and what he brought to the club was sensational) from his interviews, documentaries, how they talk about each other it's obvious that Pep really highly rates VK , and VK has based his style of football management and coaching on Pep which is understandable and so do other coaches, so it's not unique.
If he had of played for Klopp and was inspired by him would we have gone up last season? Maybe, as we would have had different personnel and perhaps our style wouldn't have been lauded by coaches, pundits opposing fans etc as quite unique for the championship. This season I think we would have been better off with the money invested going on some more physical players, slightly more direct high tempo football almost an improved Luton.
Would that Klopp style philosophy have fit in with our owners though ?
Any thoughts.

I can’t stand Liverpool or Manchester City, but I find Liverpool a more entertaining watch.

The Klopp philosophy isn't that far from the Guardiola philosophy nowadays to be fair. It's not so much of a gegenpress as it was when he initially arrived at Anfield.

Wasn't it confirmed in the documentary that one of the other candidates was Chris Wilder?
If so I think that shows the owners aren't just looking at one particular playing style.

Yeah definitely, loads of City games are so well managed that it's incredibly dull for a neutral. Not enough jeopardy.

So you wanted us to change from a footballing team to a long ball defensive team in the summer?

Kompany and Klopp both play entertaining football and try to play out from the back.
The difference is that Klopp has far far better players than Kompany

That's extreme, Liverpool are better to watch overall as they will mix it up a bit more, I think we would if VK was more in the Klopp mould.

you are naturally influenced by your surroundings. The issue we have is we are trying to do it with players who are nowhere near the level that those teams have. There's no reason why we can't replicate a Fulham, Bournemouth or Wolves etc going forward, but we are going to take a step backwards first

I find them very similar but do prefer watching Liverpool as the pace is more enjoyable.
The only noticeable difference I see is City like to pass 10-15yds and are great at getting into space. Liverpool pass 15-25 yds and use width and pace to spread the defence.
They are both high press and ball possession, which is VKs method. Sadly this season our ball possession is abysmal.

The Klopp philosophy isn't that far from the Guardiola philosophy nowadays to be fair. It's not so much of a gegenpress as it was when he initially arrived at Anfield.
It's MUCH more direct than Guardiola. He's about productive play getting forwards quickly, genuinely aggressive attacking football rather than possession hogging to try and slowly pull teams apart.
I find Klopp an odious person, don't much like Guardiola or the media's obsession with pretending he invented possession play, wingbacks and sweeper keepers, but I find Klopp much more unpleasant.
But I think his style of football is much more entertaining as an observer, and also more scaleable to the resources of a club than Pep's, which so far has only ever convincingly worked when the team employing it has the most money of any team in the division.

Was talking about this to a mate the other night. Liverpool's games generally seem a bit more frantic, whereas City just suck the life out of it. I generally don't bother watching City on TV.

I felt the same about Pep’s Barcelona. Always felt like the tactic was pass it sideways for long spells until the opposition gets bored and then hit them
