Season is over with we could have done it pre January to give a new manager a window to try and salvage things.
The point we are at now we may as well stick it out and hopefully he learns from his mistakes.
Yesterday's performance was largely positive, stubborn team selections are our biggest error at the moment

Re: JJ Watt...
Is this the West Ham we dominated at the Turf until those late snatched goals? The Arsenal side who could only edge past us at home (like Liverpool)? The Man Utd side who were second best at the Turf? Or the Villa side where with proper reffing we could have beaten away?
Contrast that to the sides who get hammered, like West Ham today, or sides like Luton (praised universally) who have also lost to the bottom two at home.
We are about 3-4 wins short of where we needed to be in year 1, but what has led to that shortfall is ad hoc errors and set pieces, not being way short in open play to these other clubs. If we’d have grabbed those wins, lets say Luton, West Ham and Palace, we would be clear of relegation and being praised left, right and centre by all the pundits.
My point is let’s keep the context.

Close to end of financial year, only normal for their to be a big board meeting this time of year.
In regards to the early posts about pressure on kompany, of course there is pressure on him, there would be pressure on him regardless of the league position, it’s a high pressure role.
It would seem an even stranger decision to sack kompany now than sacking dyche in April

Appreciate it’s not easy when we’re losing a lot but there are a lot of green shoots. Sure, we’ll likely go down (I’ve not given up yet) but depending on how many players we can keep together, it might do us good for a proper shot at staying up in 25/26 (in the Prem, obvs)

Re: JJ Watt...
Thanks. Coming from Burnley we go to the end - that’s what Kompany and Watt praise the town and area for, I assume genuinely, and they are right. So, yes, I’ve not given up yet either. The time I give up is the time they can nail the lid shut on top of me. What I see is a load of youngsters fighting hard and trying desperately to adapt quickly to this new level and get the wins we all need. Thinking we could have bought player A not player B doesn’t get us anywhere. Every team in the world can think that.MDWat wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 9:08 pmI enjoy your posts CrosspoolClarets, and largely agree.

I had pretty much given up but I don’t know what it is but I looked at our run in after Arsenal the other day and it is very favourable. Granted we have favourable runs before this season and cocked them up and there is no real form to suggest we can kick on but there is something in the back of my head saying it isn’t over yet!CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 10:27 pmThanks. Think he loves coming across to Lancashire and part of the reason is how the fans have taken to him and his wife, well except for a small group of people who are desperate for him to become more scarce when the going gets tough.

New direction, new manager - going down on a real whimper can linger. Certainly not a buzz of "we nearly stayed up last time, I think we can with another crack at it".
Have to notch more wins to get that same enthusiasm and belief.
Re: JJ Watt...
Not sure how anybody can have issue with JJ Watt or his wife, I don't watch NFL so I'd never heard of him but he's been a breathe of fresh air. Up until this summer I had no issues with the takeover things off the field seemed to have improved but then everything on and off the field nosedived in the summer.
Food and drink went rubbish and costs a stupid amount, selection of transfers were baffling but don't know if that was all VK or split decisions.

Re: JJ Watt...
I've gotten to know a Texan (online) the last few weeks and our conversation has got to JJ as he found out my team was Burnley....
He is loved by everyone there. His action to help the area out when it was hit by hurricane Harvey raised around $40million, and was done without the aim or expectation he would get anything in return. Publicity gained was solely to get more cash in the fund to help the people, not to raise his own profile. Rare in todays world!
He's selfless and one of life's good people - were lucky to have him involved at our club

Re: JJ Watt...
When talk of NFL players investing in our little Lancashire town club was first rumoured, i could not think of one player i would genuinely have wanted more to be involved than JJ Watt, just due to how great a human being he appeared to be from his work in Houston whilst playing for the Texans, particularly his work for families horrifically affected by Hurricane Harvey, military veterans, handicapped children and the Sandy Hook School shooting.
Having since become a minority owner, he's exceeded my expectations even more than i could have possibly imagined. Anyone who feels the need to criticise him really does need to educate themselves on his previous work and give themselves a really long shake.

Re: JJ Watt...
Really good to read some widespread positive comments on something BFC-related on here.
For me, I still struggle to believe he’s invested in our little Lancashire club. His fame and reach in America is incredible, yet he has thrown himself in to supporting the club, engaged properly with the fans, speaks positively and professionally about us even in these hard times, and above all he and his wife seem like lovely people. We couldn’t have hoped for better ambassadors of the club and were incredibly lucky to have him.
Here I could draw comparisons with our neighbours fortunes, or the Brady/Birmingham investment but I won’t, save to say many clubs would rightly be very envious of our position and we shouldn’t forget that.
For that reason I cannot understand why we get snide remarks about how many times he’s mentioned Bene n Hot on TV. He can mention it as many times as he likes. But I for one think story is probably reeled out because it underlines something unique about our club - that it has its own drink and one we a story dating back to the world war(s) and that history might be something Americans find interesting.
Some people also seem to think it’s necessary to attach a tangible financial value to his involvement, often citing US viewing figures or merch sales as signs of him adding value or his involvement paying dividends. For me that’s just a positive side effect if it ever happens. Far more important is our profile being raised by a universally well-liked and respected sportsman, and his advice and experience he can offer our investor group in the boardroom, and I very much doubt the club expect or care about whether that translates financially at all.
Whether he remains a claret for life, 5 years, another month, whatever - we should enjoy having him as part of our fanbase while he’s around.

But as you rightly say there are some really good things too. I like the modernisation of the stadium with LED signage. I like the profile JJ and others have given us (though Dude Perfect seem to have gone quiet). I like the investment committed in players. I like the taking the lead in meeting like last week’s EFL meeting. So much still needs improving but credit where it is due on all that and they currently have my full support, as does Kompany.

It is just the minority though - and they are entitled to their view.
Personally I think anybody who speaks about our club, the town and its people in such a positive way is a good thing. The fact that it is someone as famous and with the global reach of JJ Watt is even better. I don’t think some people realise how big this guy is (and I don’t mean in size !!). I doubt there has ever been anybody in our history as big and well known as him talk about our club and town like he has.

I’m happy for JJ Watt to mention the bene n hot story as much as he wants.
It’s only like everyone else who goes on multiple podcasts and repeat the same stories over and over again.
Was there a podcast dyche wasn’t on after his sacking, heard the spin the wheel story and a player giving another play a lap dance over and over again.
It’s just what happens, things get repeated

It’s not even like he went on a tangent about it. He mentioned it in passing about why he likes Burnley as both a club and town in response to the rather dismissive presenter who was aghast he didn’t choose somewhere in London to support. It was her who then asked what the drink was and he explained.
I have no interest in NFL and so knew nothing about JJ Watt before his involvement with us, but I think he’s been a credit to the football club.

To be honest though, it is not like anyone on here can give an informed answer to that question. So I’ll speculate:CoolClaret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2024 10:25 amThis thread has gone off on a tangent now - I don't think any Claret has been critical of JJ's involvement has there?

I think he’s a fairly minor investor, but likely the most invested.
He’s also a professional sportsman and elite athlete so I think in the boardroom he will have other investors respect, offer different perspectives to their natural standpoints, and in general be a bigger/more influential voice relative to his shareholding.
Personally though, he comes across as a really sensible and level-headed guy. Ambitious but realistic. I’m hugely reassured that Pace was able to convince an obviously very clever guy to invest in his plan and also that he’s now in the boardroom offering his advice in these more challenging times.

Re: JJ Watt...
Yeah I like him a lot - he's seen it all as well (albeit in a different sport), season ending injuries, seasonal awards, playing in huge games etc.NewClaret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 12, 2024 11:57 amTo be honest though, it is not like anyone on here can give an informed answer to that question. So I’ll speculate:

I just think his role is a bit more pronounced now than it was when he first came on board. Of course no-one knows for sure, I was just speculating/asking for other posters' thoughts.

Re: JJ Watt...
By all accounts JJ is a great guy and comes over well on television. I've no problem at all with him. He's a big name in American sport and was a tremendous NFL player.
It is amusing that merely the suggestion that he might want to mix up his patter from talking about Bene and Hot, is enough to set the Pacebots off into howls of outrage.

Re: JJ Watt...
We owe him loads for what he does to promote our club.

Re: JJ Watt...
He's promoting his investment which I don't have a problem with because that's the only way he'll get a return & he'd be foolish not to. It's good to be grounded about his intentions because his endeavours will be mutually beneficial there have to be if we don't gain he doesn't.

Re: JJ Watt...
There were some who were grinding their teeth when he was on the open top bus.
Their thought process was that he's been here two minutes and will run for the hills when the going gets tough.
Many nail their colours to the mast early on this board and keep the powder dry until they have an opportunity to use it.

Re: JJ Watt...
Franky it was a disgrace he didn’t get a medal for his role in last season’s title campaign.
I felt for him standing on the open top bus with his team-mates and the Championship trophy but no medal.
Maybe we should petition the EFL to right this wrong?
