You would like to think he would get a good reception after 10 years at the Turf but you never know … I mens Dwight McNeil should have been applauded but for some inexplicable reason booed every time touched the ball ..

Quite simple really imho…. Ben Mee was an outstanding player for us - put his body on the line many times whilst wearing our shirt. He was a superb captain too, none more so than when he came out for the post match interview at city…. He had a fabulous ten years with and for us.
McNeil was undoubtedly a very good player, good skills and very exciting to watch during his emergence…. Sadly his body language was poor, and his effort levels on occasion were even poorer and over a lesser period of time.

For the record, I’m not one of those who boo Dwight even though I’m not a big fan… I disagree with it in fact, but I’m just offering an explanation as to why I think it happens.

Mee would undoubtedly get a great reception.

Mcneils work rate even in his final season was as good as anyone’s if you check the stats. He just had an unfortunate way of holding his arms , almost Chris waddle like which gave the appearance of a slightly lethargic mind set! Great player massively underrated.
As for Ben Mee a true Burnley legend !

Ben Mee undoubtedly the very best defender I think we have had in 10 years .. he headed the ball away while lying on the ground when an attacker running in says evetyhjng you need to know about him . But Ben mee can’t do what McNeil can do just as McNeil would not do what Ben mee does .. all I can say is I wish we still had both of them at the club today .. and i wish Mee a speedy recovery

Ben Mee was not only our best defender for years,he typified our club, hard work,dedication,talent and going the extra mile. Not only that a true ambassador and a thoroughly decent man, I think he is manager material and would love him back some day.

I used to think at times that Tarks and Keane were better defenders than Mee because they were a little more composed on the ball. I couldn't have been more wrong. IMHO Mee is without doubt the best defender I have seen play for us in about 45-50 years of following the Clarets. He had great positioning, was brave, strong in the tackle, good in the air, excellent reader of the game and a well respected leader.

Thought McNeil got a good reception at Turf Moor, unlike at Goodison which was dreadful.

Just guessing it is because he jumped ship when we went down when many thought he was young enough to give us a season to help us back up.

A small matter of bumper pay rise must have surely entered the equation at some point. It benefitted both parties no doubt.

Yeah really weird that he is treated differently to other former clarets. Tarky ran his contract down and gets a nice polite applause, but Dwight who went for a decent fee gets booed, doesn't make sense to me (wouldn't boo Tarky either). I didn't and won't boo Dwight, would love to have him back at the club.

Ben mee was the one who made tarkowski look so good imo, Ben in many ways was the better of the 2 for me, but a great partnership, although tarkowski seems to have taken on the mantle himself at Everton. Unlikely we'll ever have such a partnership at the turf again. But Ben was all of the things you highlight here.

I disagree that Mee was better than Tarkowski. Tarks is doing very well at Neverton.

Mee just gave it his all and made the best from what he had. He definitely improved as he got older and wiser, in his early days he was a liability due to being too small and having zero pace. Gave a good few Own goals away too.

He’s the type of player though where age won’t be too much of a detriment as he’s never been in the least bit athletic so doesn’t rely on it. If anything the older he becomes the better he will be due to having that extra yard in his head.

He’d be absolutely perfect along side 2 athletic ball playing defenders in a back 3 that he can organise and control.

Both had their own qualities, and obviously complimented each other, Ben was more of an unsung hero, possibly it was tarkowski's imposing stature that caught people's eye, but Ben literally put he's body on the line countless times, I'm not going into a massive debate about this but it's just my opinion.

Pretty sure that is not true. He said on an interview that he wanted to play in the prem, that the salaries being offered by the club were big deductions and the uncertainty surrounding the club at the time was another factor.

I think that’s what happened after VK made it clear he didn’t want him, rather than Ben explain the rejection, hence he had nothing lined up until the Burnley position was clear. Although VKs decision as you say was was probably also based on a wage higher than he would want to pay.

You know there’s that small town in Spain that produces loads of leading top flight football managers…. Don’t reckon the same applies to Burnley for body language experts…. Mears, Weghorst, McNeill, Benson, Brownhill…. All subjects of La Masis of body language .

You don’t need to be a body language “expert” to get an idea of someone’s mood or character, or even “where they are” at any particular moment. This isn’t mythical or a new age science.

You can see it every day in all walks of life - people use it every day in all walks of life.

Anger/frustration/sadness/happiness/belief/mistrust, all these things and more are readable and picked up on every day by non experts. It’s done without even thinking about it. Admittedly tho, some people are better at it than others….
