Movement in the Penalty Area

I have to say some of the Movement and Desire to get on the end of things in the area has been really poor this season but it was awful today. I thought Fofana has a pretty good game, but they all lack the instinct and desire to get on the end of things. The O.G is a prime example of there not being a Claret really attacking the goal. O Shea put the ball across the goal early im the second half and nobody attacked it. We really are poor in both boxes

Cullen cuts the ball back to where 3 of them are. Not sure how many more we should have in the box but for me they are all in the correct position for the pull back

and if you widen the shot there is more than half the team there

it's all about how quick you get the ball across and player's anticipating when to make the run to get on end of the cross ..

How many are running into the 6 yard box or have the desire to get in there for a tap

But the pull back put a dangerous ball in and forced the weet ham error (plus as Vegas says there's players in the right position)

A lot of our goals this season have come from a cut back into the area - we don't do that enough in my opinion

Been one of our biggest failings this season, awareness, desire and conviction to get there in front of the defender, make a telling run in there and put there laces through it, a bit like Fofana yesterday but closer to goal, to actually have that desire to see the net bulge.

Anticipation and confidence, sadly both need familiarity, understanding and confidence… not easy to get into a team of youngsters who only met in the summer and who are used to being overrun when overcommitted while attacking.

The way 4 defenders stood there admiring Danny Ings turn and shoot was totally unacceptable
The marker Berge should have been much tighter on Ings.

If you compare our attacking players movement in the box to even a bang average Premier striker like Chris Wood they are miles off it. The movement is really poor and the desire to get in the right areas and between the goal posts in lacking. Owe wide players also don’t attack the back post for tap ins.

The defensive phase it’s comedy. Beaten by straight balls and not enough enjoying heading the football to name some of the issues

The greatest blessing is the midfield of Berge and Cullen which is probably the best midfield duo we will ever have in the Championship if both are with us

I made a similar comment whilst at the Bournemouth game about players not getting between the posts, I felt a bit like Alan Shearer. But there were numerous occasions where we had 3 or 4 men in the box but none of them were between the width of the posts and in a position to score.

To be honest, I didn't think it was as much of a problem against West Ham where generally we had quite a few players committing into the box. Agree that the movement isn't good enough at times, and sadly so isn't the final ball.

This is my fear for next season. The pattern of play sacrifices proper striker positions. Pretty and ineffective.

There is no way on earth that VK will play a 28 year old and a 26 year old together in our midfield next season! You know how much he hates experience!
Both will be on the bench whilst he persists with an 18 year old and a 16 year old.
