Toney
Unfit, overweight, uninterested. Was Southgate watching?

Re: Toney
If he was a third as good as he thinks he is, he’d be average. A legend in his own lunchtime.

Like rest of team
10 men and 1 down after 10mins they didn't respond well to that.

he reminded me of Ings for us when he knew he was off to Liverpool, not fully committed.

Re: Toney
Be interesting to see who will buy him.
He looks a player in poor team, but wouldn’t really improve a team like Arsenal and at a rumoured 80million would be a serious gamble.

Re: Toney
You’re saying Brentford didn’t look interested and didnt respond well? They scored as many goals as us after the penalty, played 90+ minutes with ten men and by all accounts our keeper put in a man of the match performance. I’d argue they didn’t do too bad!

Re: Toney
I was expecting a real handful today. A couple of clever quick free kicks aside he seemed totally disinterested between the sending off and the consolation goal. Thought he was out-battled by our defence which isn’t a great accusation to throw at him.

Re: Toney
He’s a top player but looked overweight and not very interested today. He was still a nuisance and played a quick clever ball through to Wissa for that 1 on 1 in the first half.

Almost correct.
I thought their attitude was a little defeatist once the penalty/goal happened.
They are a much better side than they showed today, and they did plenty of rolling around and fed up body language. Especially first half.
Easy to get going again when your against a side that doesn't know how to win and you get yourself back into it late on.

Hard ro judge though when they have 10 for so long. Games plan is out of window you would imagine

Re: Toney
I thought he was decent today, not helped by the sending off. He's an absolute unit, and was able to hold of O'Shea and Esteve quite easily, and I think won more than his fair share of headers. Problem being he was quite isolated with them having to adopt a defensive formation to cover the loss of Reguillon. Had he had more options up with him, I fear we may have struggled

They’ve lost 14 out of the last 19 games!

Re: Toney
Toney was a handful. If was overweight, unfit or disinterested then he’ll be really good when he’s on it.
I was annoyed with the amount of fouls he got away with. Had he been a defender or midfielder he would have been booked way before he was.

Re: Toney
He looked to swing an elbow at Assignon in the first half in front of the JHS, Assignon had been nibbling at Toney from behind several times and eventually Toney looked to react. Anyone else see that.

Re: Toney
Yes, we discussed this at ht.
Assignon didn’t really react to it (very unlike him). Had he done, Toney could’ve been in trouble.

Yeah I think they were bad... I think they can be better. Even if that means they get beat. We were hanging on against men.helmclaret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 8:20 amMuch better side than they showed?

All I was saying is it came across as their attitude was not great yesterday from the get go.

Pretty physical and aggressive but didn't do much with the ball

Yes Brentford have been playing poorly for quite some time now, but they are beset by injuries.
Their defence has been decimated with long term injuries including Ben Mee, Ethan Pinnock and Rico Henry.
Plus they have Dasilva, Hickey, Schade and Norgaard who have been out injured for quite some time.
Mbeumo has been out for almost 4 months, he came off the bench for them in the 2nd half yesterday and made some brilliant runs through our midfield.
Also until recently Toney has been missing due to his lengthy ban for betting.
So yes when at full strength they are a much better team than they showed yesterday, I would say possibly a top 10 team.

Re: Toney
That came across as petulant to me. It was like he couldn't keep up so had to wrestle & kick people.ClaretJimmy wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 9:46 amPretty physical and aggressive but didn't do much with the ball
Re: Toney
I was surprised with Brentford generally.. down to 10 men and in poor form, but they went long so often it was awful to watch.dougcollins wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 10:10 amThat came across as petulant to me. It was like he couldn't keep up so had to wrestle & kick people.

Re: Toney
They actually started the game like that, with 11 men- it looked like a deliberate tactic from Frank, and it's how he expected to beat us.
Re: Toney
And we still struggled to a 2-1 win even though they had 10 men for over 90 minutes!helmclaret wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 8:20 amMuch better side than they showed?

The Brentford fans were all saying how rubbish we were. I thought they played the game well considering the circumstances.

Re: Toney
Toney is a decent footballer with an eye for goal.
He is big and strong and puts himself about forcefully as was seen in their rightly disallowed goal on Saturday. He then somehow seems to lose all his strength, power & balance when he gets anywhere near the ‘special gravity zone’ and over he goes. With those attributes he’s destined for one of the Greedy 6.
