HAPPY MONDAY!. FOREST, points deduction?

Post by It Is What It Is » Sun Mar 17, 2024 12:38 pm

Nottingham Forest reports suggesting they will discover the outcome of their profit and sustainability charge on Monday.
Any points deduction would be most welcome.

Everton got there's reduced because of errors in the premier League's case, can't see them making the same mistake twice.

Don’t want to be a party pooper but it will be irrelevant to us anyway. We need the weakest other 2 to come down with us and that is the same 2 that came up with us.

I don't expect us to stay up, but:
If Forest get a 6pt deduction and we beat them in the last game of the season, then we only have to match their other results between now and the end of the season to finish above them.
We'll finish above Sheff U so our other target would be Luton, who are catchable.

Successful appeals tend to get a third of the points off - there needs to be a new rule about frivolous appeals

Forest's main point of mitigation was the price achieved for Brennan Johnson as a opposed to what was available in the reporting time frame - Everton's case and appeal saw that mitigation rejected both times.

there are media reports that the overspend at Forest was greater than Everton's, which suggests a bigger point deduction for them.

Forest were represented by Nick de Marco possible the most successful legal council against English Football Authorities, he also represented Everton at their appeal.

I expect Forest to get a bigger penalty than Everton's new charges, simply because the double jeopardy/natural justice argument has strong basis in English Law, it will mitigate but not terminate the charges is my guess

They have to give the same as they did with Everton's 1st charge. 10 points reduced to 6 on appeal. Everton will get 10 points for the 2nd time with no reduction on appeal.

Not necessarily. Beat both and give them both a 6 point deduction, we finish above and relegate Everton and Forest, all other things being equal.

We can dream. And should.

I think all our heads say that. We have left it too late. We kept playing some players whose form wasn’t good enough.

But the chance is there. That’s key for us, players, fans, owners. To believe.

And let’s be honest, after what happened with Richarlison 2 years ago, and the Greek guy in Athens, wouldn’t it be great?

If the point deductions happen before the end of the season and with us still to play Everton and Forest it could be very very close

When are Everton due to find out their second penalty?

Also are we still pursuing compo from Everton? I certainly hope so.

Forest have a big couple of weeks coming up.

Yes, the hearing this week but also their next two games are at home to Palace & Fulham. Two wins in those games and any points reduction could be irellevant. Depending on any sanctions, no wins and it could be a killer blow to their season.

We won't give up but it's so frustrating that we aren't closer to really take advantage.

There are suggestions that Forest have been offered a softened penalty (reduced) if they do not appeal - which should affect the credibility of the Premier League to my mind. The stories also suggest Everton are going to get a similar offer

The reasons being offered for this are that it makes the run in more certain for all clubs involved in the relegation fight.

What it actually shows is that the Premier League is still playing catch-up on the issue of firm penalties for rule breaches - this is in large part not down to Premier League administration, but to the fact that Premier League members (the clubs) were not prepared to agree to such penalties

I wonder what 'softened penalty' will mean. And can VAR rule it out?

Just interested to know how everyone else is celebrating this?

I know some of you will be working which is a bit inconvenient for when the news breaks but I'm guessing the party will be in full swing when you get home.

Street parties, friends and family home event or have you hired a function room?
What's the right food? Is it a sausage roll kind of event or should we be setting the bar higher?

For those of you that should having to work tomorrow, how are you booking your sickie?

The awful decision to give the Luton equaliser and the late equaliser last week at West Ham - those 4 points could really bite us in the you know what at the end of the season. Those 4 points on our total now would put us only 1 behind Luton, 4 behind Everton and Forest with both to play and possible Forest points deductions and only 5 behind Brentford. Would really be game on.

Two wins in those 2 games would give Forest 31 points.
So 14 in front of us. If, say, they then get a 4 point penalty
that's still 10 points in front of us.
That would still be a huge ask of us.

So yes, any points reduction may well be irrelevant.
So let's hope Palace and Fulham shape themselves.

Dont forget our incorrectly disallowed winner at Forest. That ought to have been another 3 points closer to them

I guess 'we cheated so we could make more money' isn't the sound defence they thought it was.

Should be relegated for that alone.

Agreed, no deterrent to any club knowing the are going to end up mid table or above. You could argue at around 2m a league place it is almost encouraging it.

Not done by the Premier League. It’s always an independent panel.

Different panels might affect it but from what I can understand the Forest situation was nothing like as bad as Everton. And if they can persuade a panel to understand the Johnson situation then they could win their appeal.

I expect this to galvanise Forest and them to at least win back the four points in the next two home games.

Obviously we hope it doesn't.
