That much! Remember it is Scotland
Re: Weghorst
Scotland should've made it 1-1 just before the three went in. Missed a real sitter. Wout scoring with a header was a bit of a shock until I realised he had to jump downwards to get it. Well directed header, mind, Cookesque.

Re: Weghorst
He would have a Mitrovic-esque season in the Championship with the right service, I actually believe that.
Just a shame he thinks he’s too good too play at that level.

Got to say I really appreciate the efforts he has made in two successive seasons to help his team out of a hole……

Re: Weghorst
And what is that exactly ?
Not having a dig at you BB. But we are all a bit bereft of what our style is right now
The issue with Wout was attitude imo

Re: Weghorst
I don't see us knocking it up to a big CF as a main tactic. Looking at Fofana and Foster, I'd say our requirement up front is a far more mobile player..
Re: Weghorst
It would be nice to know who does. Please tell Vincent.
Re: Weghorst
That's good because Weghorst isn't that sort of player and doesn't play that way. His game is about coming deep, linking play. Like we've seen Kane do. His height is a red herring. I seem to be in the minority but I rate him and think he'd be a big asset for us. Although we'll never see it and I don't particularly blame Weghorst for that.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 10:40 pmI don't see us knocking it up to a big CF as a main tactic. Weghorst plays similar to how Crouch did. Strength not with heading but with close control. Deceivingly tall, a bit like Glen Little too.

I think the only reason Kompany didn't keep him at the club for this season in the premier league is because of the booing from clueless fan's everytime he touched the ball in preseasonPickles wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 7:27 amThat's good because Weghorst isn't that sort of player and doesn't play that way. Re: Weghorst
A lot of Burnley fans have a total misconception about him. If he was 5ft10 he'd get far fewer pelters. It's a bit odd. He's not helped though by the time of his arrival - we needed an out and out goalscorer to save us, Dyche played him as a target man, and we didn't make many signings. Things were against him.AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 7:43 amI think the only reason Kompany didn't keep him at the club for this season in the premier league is because of the booing from clueless fan's everytime he touched the ball in preseason
A good player (look at the clubs he's played for) who'd be of benefit to us, Premier League or Championship. Totally understand and agree why he left when we got relegated and he's played at the level he needs to be playing at ever since.

Sadly, many of the wooden headed ones amongst us cannot, or just refuse to accept that he could be this big asset for us. Using throw away comments like he doesn’t want to play for us and that his attitude stinks.
He is in terms of ability, head and shoulders above many of Vincent’s recent expensive signings. Even though Holland are not the force they used to be, you don’t get a game for them if you are pony.
When you look at him in relation to signings like Amdouni, Ramsay and Tresor, it is clear that we have got a better player out on loan than most currently in our squad stealing a wage.
I will batten down the hatches now in readiness for the incoming flak.

Re: Weghorst
I don't think it was about ability or what he could have done for many he had already burnt his bridges & there was no going back it's that plain & simple & in my view that part within itself is often misunderstood by them who wanted to see a return.Jamesy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 9:35 amI’m with you in the minority. Re: Weghorst
Our season would have gone better if he stayed with us.
Great presser and link player.
Gets stick for missing chances and he could improve that side of his game.
But he would have won the ball high up the pitch for us and kept the ball up that end of pitch more. Giving our defence a bit more rest.

Re: Weghorst
I don't think it was personal he didn't want to play in the championship it's something we agreed to before we signed him & knew about. It's not as if he suddenly turned around 1 day & downed tools without notice.

Re: Weghorst
Did he not score a very rare headed goal away at Bloomfield Road once? The same game where Payton lobbed the keeper from 40 yards

Re: Weghorst
Didn't want to play in the Championship. Couldn't play in the Championship if he wanted to play for the Netherlands in a World Cup.
And his decision to move on has been absolutely proven to be the correct one.
If some supporters took off the claret and blue glasses every so often and didn't take things so personally all the time, they'd recognise it plain and simply for what it is.

Re: Weghorst
Absolutely and the pelters he got for it were way over the top. But then he was always on a hiding to nothing. Even when fans "sung" his name they mispronounced it. It's only got four letters.

Re: Weghorst
Think everyone is remembering a different player to me, I seem to remember him missing plenty of good chances that could have helped keep us in the PL. Only managed 1 goal in the PL for Man Utd as well.
I reckon most fans expected him to leave the club when we went down and that's fair enough. He should have just kept his gob shut on the way out of the door.

Re: Weghorst
Even though he would probably fit in with the play style I get the impression he thinks he’s better than Burnley. He’s constantly asking for loans so I don’t even think he likes being here. Time to cut our losses I would say.Jamesy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 9:35 amI’m with you in the minority. I have always rated him.

Re: Weghorst
Just saying. You said Weghorst is cack. I’m just pointing out that he is better than the majority of players we have currently got in our squad.
Additionally, we could at least get our money back for Weghorst. No chance of getting anywhere near the fees we paid for these poor players that Kompany recruited.
