This is nothing to do with Monday night scrapbook quiz but here is a teaser as we head into a boring football weekend! :D

Taken with a telephoto lens at an away match in the mid to late 1970's.

Name the opponents and ground.

How many Burnley players can you name. I think there are 9 on view but some are obscured so good luck with this one.

"Follow Blackpool Home and Away" is a good clue as to the opponents and ground, unless it's a massive trick question. As for the players, I'll start with number 7 - either Brian Flynn, or the mascot forgot to leave the pitch.

No tricks or cryptic clues here. The real test is squinting at the players from distance. Keep trying.

Arins is 2. Noble 4. Flynn 7. Malcolm Smith 8? Peter Robinson the center half jumping that you can see. Presumably Jim Thomson behind him. Stevenson in goal, Billy ingham off to the right. 10 if it’s a 10, Marshall Burke?

2. Arins was blonde wasn't he but there's something peculiar about the hair here. Ian Brennan?
7. Billy Ingham - it just looks like him.
Behind their number 9 (Bob Hatton?), Paul Fletcher?
4. Peter Noble.
Goalkeeper, Alan Stevenson with rugby shirt.
8. Tony Morley?
Behind our number 8, Brian Flynn?
Peter Robinson.
Malcolm Smith?

This would be the day after we won at Blackburn with a goal from Terry Cochrane? Thought that was '78. Third of a busy Easter schedule.

The two games there in 1976/77 and 1977/78 both ended 1-1 with the same goalscorers - Malcolm Smith for us.

This one has to be 1976/77 because that's Billy Ingham in the no 7 shirt and I'm sure that's Keith Newton wearing 2 and he'd played his last game some time before the 1977/78 game.

By coincidence we drew 1-1 at Blackpool over the Easter period in both '76/'77 and '77/'78 with Malcolm Smith scoring on both occasions.
However, in '77/'78 Derek Scott was our right-back and that's defo Keith Newton in the photo who played the previous season.

Some gallant efforts here fellas and between you I think all the answers have been provided.

The easy bit is Blackpool v Burnley at Bloomfield Road.

The date is tricky and even though I’ve had this photo in my collection for many years I’ve had to do a bit of checking to clarify which match it was.

As pointed out in the responses above Burnley played Blackpool away twice in successive years at Easter so to identify the exact date the players on view had to be checked against the line ups on the respective dates.

Some plumped for 28-3-1978 (which was indeed the day after Cochrane’s winner at Ewood).

The correct date is 9-4-1977 and as was the same a year later the score was 1-1 and Malcolm Smith scored on each occasion.

In both years the Blackpool fixture was played 24 hours after we played Rovers.

Key identifiers from the players on view in the photo are number 2 is Keith Newton whereas in 1978 Derek Scott played.

Billy Ingham is number 7 in the photo whereas a year later he wore 8 and Cochrane wore 7.

I think Tricky Trevor has it whilst Hipper, CT and Royboy summarised the dates and key differences.

I think Tony Morley is the only one not on view? Perhaps Bob Lord had sent him to get his haircut 😉

Rodaway is challenging for aerial ball as is Robinson (you can just see an extra white socked leg which must be Robinson unless Morley was attempting to beat Bob Hatton in the air.)

Thanks all for contributing.

I think it was the same goalscorer in both games for Blackpool too.

Donr forget to join us at 9pm on Monday night for another of 'Beehole's Monday night mini scrapbook quizzes'.

I was toying with the idea of switching to a similar time on Sunday night as Monday clashes with work, 5 a side and live TV games for some people.

Let me know your views.
