England Euro 2024 Squad

Post by bumba » Wed Mar 27, 2024 4:27 pm

What would everyone's squad be?
23 players allowed, presuming everybody is fit.

Goalkeepers - Pickford, Ramsdale and Butland

Defenders - Walker, Alexander-Arnold, Chilwell, Shaw, Branthwaite, Stones, Colwill, Gomez

Midfielders - Rice, Mainoo, Bellingham, Maddison, Loftus-Cheek,

Attackers - Saka, Bowen, Foden, Grealish, Kane, Solanke, Rashford

I suspect Trafford is pencilled in for that 3rd GK slot

Sam Johnstone out for season now. I wouldn't be surprised if Trafford went.

I think he'd have been originally selected in the squad this time if that was the case, there's a possibility he doesn't play another game for Burnley this season too. How could Southgate justify that?

If Shaw is fit he's starting never mind not going.
I'm asking who people would pick......

He’s not fit so won’t be going

Read the first post, 'presuming everyone is fit'.
Not asking who is fit and who isn't I'm asking who everyone would pick if everyone was fit.

But they are still hoping Shaw will be fit so you yourself can't possibly know he won't be fit and won't be going.

Solanke is a good shout. He's better than Watkins and probably Toney as well.

Braithwaite would be starting with Stones for me but that won't happen

Southgate has stated he’s not taking anyone who is a risk

If you are picking players not fit can I have Gazza and Hoddle ?

Depends on if Popey gets fit in time and does well in a run of games. I think Ramsdale is massively overrated as well.

Goalkeepers - Pickford, Pope*, Butland

Defenders - Walker, Shaw, Stones, Maguire, Guehi**, TAA, Colwill, Mitchell

Midfielders - Rice, Mainoo, Bellingham, Maddison, Barkley, Foden

Attackers - Saka, Bowen, Kane, Toney, Rashford, Gordon

* Ramsdale if Pope doesn't get fit/run of games
** Konsa if Guehi doesn't get fit/ run of games

Toney offers something different - can play himself into a game even when the team is under the cosh with his physicality and being a nuissance.

Bellingham Captain - he is just brilliant.

See Kalvin Phillips when he was still at Man City.

Picture the scene:

Pickford ruptures his spleen screaming at Maguire in the final group game. Ramsdale steps in but is sent off for time-wasting in the 95th minute of the semi-final. The final is 0-0 AET, Trafford saves three penalties and Bumba applies for Scottish citizenship.

He got picked because he was at City, I very much doubt sub at Burnley will sway Southgates decision to include him

When was the last game Trafford played that was 0-0 at 90 minutes?

Trafford's shirt to lose now. That's how it should work, isn't it?

That’s the point. He was getting picked for England whilst not playing at City so there’s no reason that Trafford can’t get picked when not playing at Burnley.

With this clown in charge, anything is possible. Whilst Maguire, “Hendo” and Phillips are n the mix I’ve not given up hope of getting a call up myself.

They may as well take you, or anyone else on here, as third keeper with the chance of him playing being practically zero.

Soon as he left City and played games at West Ham he was dropped which shows he was getting picked just because of the club he was at.
If Trafford was sub at City he'd get it regardless but a sub for Burnley I very much doubt he'll get in unless we get really short

Can’t make my mind up about the squad.

I reckon Gareth takes loads of players, but he’ll select, Pickford, Maguire, Maguire, Maguire, Maguire, Henderson, Henderson, Henderson, Henderson, rashford, rashford.

He might take off rashford and slip in kalvin Phillips at some point, just to shore us up in case we go two down at any time.
