Favourite butty.

Post by bfcjg » Fri Mar 29, 2024 10:14 am

I tend to go through stages, currently my favourite is flavoured roast chicken with lots of pepper and salt, quality mayonnaise, crisp lettuce, tomato and red peppers on ciabatta bread, heavily buttered. Just prior to eating sprinkled with ready salted crisps for crunch.
Second the classic BLT.

Depends how fancy were talking but regular, run of the mill sandwich I'd say egg mayo with cold crispy bacon broken over the top. Bread would either be seeded or Jackson's white bread.

As for extravagant, I do a mean turkey, cranberry, stuffing, gravy, pig in blanket (basically an Xmas sandwich) every now and again

All of a sudden im starving...

Either a club sandwich or a Boxing Day butty (turkey, sausage, stuffing and cranberry sauce)

Bacon, black pudding, mustard.

In proper bread, not one of those Brioche abominations.

Hovis bread with ham and sliced beetroot. Gorgeous.
If anyone remembers the "El Greco" cafe that used to be near the bus station, it was my after match snack. They used to do a ham and beetroot bap which was wonderful after we'd won and comforting after we'd lost.

For a hot butty, it has to be B&E, but made with the best quality butcher bacon and fresh egg. Also, decent bread/baps.

For a cold butty, proper carved ham off-the-bone with tomato, lettuce, sliced egg and mustard.

BEST (Bacon egg sausage tinned tomatoes). Brown sauce of course. Tomatoes in the middle to avoid the bread going soggy.

Chip shop fish and chips on a buttered oven bottom t cake with tomato sauce and loads of salt and vinegar.

Food of the gods. Close the thread.

None of your goats cheese, pesto, rocket, sun dried tomato nonsense in this house, thank you very much...

Anyone else reminded of the vicar in “Gavin & Stacey”?

I love a tuna mayo on a buttered oven bottom.

Hot beef and raw onion from the White Lion on match day…. Yeah, I know, but trust me on this.

And a PROPER egg banjo…

I don't mind a fish finger butty as long as it's on good bread with decent butter. Pepper though and nowt else. By the way, we are brown sauce people in my house, not red.

Back in the early 90,s there was a butty shop in Rosegrove that did amazing bacon sausage and egg butties, proper butties where everything was cooked in a deep fat fryer and the bacon was crispy yet chewy at the same time. Heavenly.

Crunchy peanut butter and strawberry or raspberry jam wrapped in a tortilla. Far from a favourite flavour-wise, but coupled with strong coffee and cigarettes, they provide a diet on which you can heavy-weather sail for days on end

A proper bacon buttie with brown sauce is hard to beat.

But I've been buying a ham on white teacake from Oddies every week for the last few years and just don't seem to get fed up of eating it.
