Hell of a talent. A lot better than Keane and Tarkowski were when they first came to the Premier League and I guess he's younger too.

Also, I believe left-footed centre backs are a bit of a rare breed at the top level so that should put a premium on his price when it comes to moving him on which will be a nice bonus

Could turn out to be our best signing of the current crop. Brilliant player in my opinion.

Already stated this week that I think by Christmas he will be our best CH-looked so promising v Palace despite a poor team performance

I think so. Keane got dropped for Duff in that first season, who I'd say was probably about 35 or 36. I don't think Esteve would ever have had that problem.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 8:29 amReally?
On ages, yes younger than Tarky but just about the same age as Keane was when we signed him.
Tarkowski was sat on thr bench as well waiting for Keane to leave. But when he did play he looked pretty ropey.

Re: ARTICLE: Estève was our best in Everton defeat
Keane had to wait a while for his debut, getting in when Duff got injured at Stoke in November and then got a decent run in the side. Tarky did have to wait for Keane to leave but then stepped in for him and we reached the Europa League qualifiers at the end of his first season. Tarky went on to win the player of the year on UTC for four consecutive seasons. I'll be honest, I haven't seen a Keane or a Tarky in Estève yet.Goliath wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 8:34 amI think so. Esteve is a good example that you need a number of games to establish yourself and develop and settle into the team. So many of this year's squad just did not get the chance, and this is probably a bi-product of the squad being just too big

He’s done OK since he came, but I wouldn’t (and hope Vinny doesn’t) write Beyer and Al Dakhil off just yet.
I still think they’ll have big futures in the game.

Re: ARTICLE: Estève was our best in Everton defeat
I'm shocked that anyone would be comparing Esteve to Keane or Tarkowski at this stage. He has had some decent games and some poor games so far.
As yet, he's a long way off comparisons to two of our top three centre halves in recent years, in my opinion.

Potential they are talking about. He has all the attributes to be a top defender. Getting better every game. Him and Beyer be an unreal championship partnership

Yeah fair enough, I can see him doing well in the Championship.claretcarrot93 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 12:00 pmPotential they are talking about. He has all the attributes to be a top defender. Getting better every game. Him and Beyer be an unreal championship partnership
I’m with CT at the moment though in that I don’t yet see someone with the potential to reach the level Tarkowski has achieved. Happy to be proved wrong in time though.
Re: ARTICLE: Estève was our best in Everton defeat
As mentioned I wasn't saying he's anywhere near their peak. I just think he looks more ready to go at this level than they did.
