Jacob Brunn Larsen
Jacob Brunn Larsen
For the statos on here has JBL completed a full 90+ minutes for us. Seems he either comes on as a sub or is subbed and when subbed it is not always for a better performer IMO.

You would do well to complete 90 minutes in this side out wide.
With 5 subs and 9 wingers to play.

Re: Jacob Brunn Larsen
Maybe it's in his contract, where as Trafford's says he must play, Brun Larsen's might stipulate that he must either be sub or be subbed, perhaps?

The commentator on Saturday said he's our leading goal scorer now but hasn't goat an assist.
The role of a winger has certainly changed.

I'd argue we play "wide forwards" more than wingers, but we can be here all day if we go down that routeQuickenthetempo wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 3:37 pmThe commentator on Saturday said he's our leading goal scorer now but hasn't goat an assist.

I don’t think it’s anything as complicated as that. He’s always had injury problems I would think it’s more a case of trying to protect him than anything else.

Re: Jacob Brunn Larsen
Apart from Gudmundsson, whose record is excellent, and Foster, our assist record is terrible from forward minded players.
Koleosho / Odobert get an assist 1 game in 10.
Brunn Larsen never.
Berge 1 game in 30.
Amdouni 1 game in 20.
Cullen gets more than any of these, from holding midfield. It really is a big reason we are where we are.

Berge is really frustrating in that he seems to get himself into really good positions then makes the wrong (often negative) choice. I just wish he'd take the chance because I've got every faith he'd end up bagging himself a few.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 4:36 pmApart from Gudmundsson, whose record is excellent, and Foster, our assist record is terrible from forward minded players.

In the interview on Match of the Day he complained about pre match back ache and of hardly being able to breathe. Is he a hypochondriac?

What I find most surprising, given that we have 9 goals against Sheffield but only 28 against everyone else, is that our players with many career assists aren’t featuring most often. Gudmundsson is in the top 10 outside the big 6 for “chances created per minutes played” which includes corners, Redmond and Tresor have 50+ club assists in their career (the latter in few seasons), and Benson has a good few as well. Whereas Amdouni has only 11 career assists.
Personally there has always been a strong argument for Foster / Amdouni up front to put the goals in, Redmond / Tresor behind to create, Odobert / Koleosho wide left to cause chaos and Gudmundsson wide right to provide set pieces with JBL a later sub for him. Leave defensive attributes aside for a minute, I reckon that team would have 15 more goals. Baffling that we persisted with what didn’t work for so long.
Anyway, JBL has done well, the subject of this thread, and we appear to have turned a corner belatedly, but I would have been going with the above from August.
Re: Jacob Brunn Larsen
Not sure what he'd do the The Championship.
Five goals in 986 minutes looks good but seem to be a little misleading. He'll be back in Germany soon.

Re: Jacob Brunn Larsen
I'm not surprised that Larsen's record for us shows 5 goals but 0 assists.
Recently we've been using our wide players in a similar way to Brighton in that we attempt to circulate the ball around the middle of the pitch, with the centre forward dropping deep to help with this, and then we look to release a wide player in behind making an out-to-in run.
This is why we've seen Odobert's position changed to a more central role, and indeed why we've seen Foster being trialled in a wide right role.

Re: Jacob Brunn Larsen
Even Taylor from full back manages an assist per season in the PL. 7 in 6 seasons now, go Charlie, some call him dross.

I'm not sure the wide players should be thought of as wingers (chance providers), more as finishers.
Assignon and Taylor are more likely to provide crosses.

Brunn Larsen has comfortably been one of our better players this season, it’s a shame he has clearly got fitness issues, early in the season he always looked good off the bench and then scored the worldy against Luton

Didn’t we have an obligation to buy Larsen in the summer for around £3m?

Re: Jacob Brunn Larsen
Not sure whether it’s an option or obligation. He’ll only have a year left on his contract in Germany. He signed a 12 month extension to enable us to take him on loan instead of a permanent deal. Whether that was our choice in light of his injury problems or his choice in wanting a get-out should we be relegated we don’t know.Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 9:13 pmDidn’t we have an obligation to buy Larsen in the summer for around £3m?

He is like a younger JBG.
solid, hard working, technical, eye for goal...injury prone!
Really like him, great player to have in the squad.

Re: Jacob Brunn Larsen
Just don’t get him. So often seems to give the ball away cheaply and rarely beats a man. The goals at Luton and home to Wolves were beauties but think his general play has been poor over the course of the season.
It’s a sad state of affairs but after all the signings we’ve made, I’d still prefer for JBG to come in and play on the right with Odobert moving back to the left.

Never seems to cross the ball
Re: Jacob Brunn Larsen
He’ll be a good signing for a relatively small outlay, but he was absolutely dreadful today.
Offered nothing whatsoever going forwards, and hung Vitinho out to dry defending the left.

I don’t think he’s robust enough for two games a week in the Championship.
Re: Jacob Brunn Larsen
Nowhere near it today but for 3m he walks the championship for me, just isn’t consistent enough for top division hence Dortmund to Hoffenheim to us.

Re: Jacob Brunn Larsen
I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the loan “obligations” have been misreported. JBL was reported to be a cast iron obligation, but Kompany suggested it that it wasn’t a few weeks ago.
I’d also be surprised if we are genuinely on the hook to pay £15m+ for Tresor. If we were, I’d have thought we’d have played him more to help develop him or at least put him in the shop window to move him on.
I wonder if the obligations only kick in if we stay up.

Maybe not, but as posted above, he would probably "walk" the Championship, quality-wise.helmclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2024 9:26 pmI don’t think he’s robust enough for two games a week in the Championship.

I thought he was awful today and being honest I've not quite got him. I'm not sure he's robust enough for the Championship, as others have said and nor do I think he works hard enough consistently. I suspect there are better uses for any money we have.

Re: Jacob Brunn Larsen
I’d be happy for him to leave. We have a bloated squad and he hasn’t done enough. He’s a very ‘streaky’ player who can have good spells but then you see nothing from him for large swathes of the game. And I mean nothing.

I cannot see a scenario where Tresor joins in the summer for £15m. If he does I think it’ll be on a drastically reduced fee.
JBL I think would be a phenomenal signing at £3m.
Did anyone see his turn take out 3 United players last week? Sensational stuff. He’s our top scorer this year for a reason. His athleticism and physicality makes him far more suited to the premier league than say Zaroury & Benson who cost about the same. I’d very much like to see both of those reintegrated but he’s a very wise signing.
Did think he was poor today though (like many others, mind).

our top scorer this season, there are a dozen I'd get rid of before him. If we can get him for a small fee I would, has undoubted quality.

He reminds me of Alan Moore. Flashes of quality but goes missing for large parts of the game. He can’t manage 90 mins playing every 1-2 weeks so he’s no chance in the Championship.

Re: Jacob Brunn Larsen
Brunn Larsen would have been better in the number 10 role rather than brownhill, Odobert is completely wasted on the right. How in a must win game your game winner from last season who plays on the right can’t get a kick is beyond me.
