Michael Duff's Burnley XI

Post by Colburn_Claret » Sun May 02, 2021 8:18 am

A new video on Clarets Player.
Really good watch, I won't spoil it by telling his choice, but just a good reminder of what great players we've been blessed with over the last 12 years. You could probably fill the bench with another 2 teams of players who could have joined it.

He also comes across really well (as ever)...............a future Claret Manager potentially..........and his XI is interesting and a good reflection of his time with us.

Thirded... an excellent watch. He's still my eldest's favorite Burnley player!

A great watch and the respect he holds for Dyche is incredible. Duff has to be one of our best ever buys - utmost respect to him and yes he could be a future manager for us.

Too true-I think we raided the office petty cash when we bought him. Well done Cotts

Wasn’t he the first player we spent money on in god knows how long? I remember being surprised at the time that we paid a fee for a player.

Articulate, intelligent analysis of some of the best players to play for our great club throughout the past decade and a half.

Hope he does well next season and definitely a candidate as a future Burnley manager.

Without watching it I’d guess

Heaton

Trippier. Duff. Mcgreal Ward.

Elliott. Grezza. Barton. Airfield.

Ings. Austin.

His choice is different. An insight into both the player and the character.

What was he doing up Burnley way?

A brilliant watch that and a very competitive side. Lovely how he still referred to Sean as 'The Gaffer' :D

It takes a lot more than skill to become a legend, but Duff is certainly a Claret legend, and a Cheltenham one too.
It would be good to see him and Elliott back one day. He has a big future ahead, but a hard one next season. I think I read Cheltenham had the 17th smallest budget in league 2. League 1 is a big ask.

Enjoyed that, surprised there were no mentions of Joey, David Jones and Barnesy.

Big plus mark on his cv taking Cheltenham up, that's an outstanding achievement.

They use our training facilities when playing up north.

Like Frank Casper, who of course became our manager.

He was Cotterill's second signing but McGreal, the first, had come as an out of contract player. Given we hadn't paid a fee for a player in the previous two seasons I reckon the previous fee we'd paid might have been for Robbie Blake in Jan 2002, some two years and six months previous.

And what a signing Mcgreal was too. Top defender at that level.

Michael Duff was some signing for 30k, nearly 350 games for the club, and 3 promotions, that's some CV in anyone's language, and he's clearly carried on that success into his fledgling managerial career, always pleasing to see anyone with Claret connections achieving success, and it's been well earned success also. Stanley are a notable example of how to compete in League 1 on a miniscule budget, so although it'll be a tough ask for Cheltenham and Duff I certainly wouldn't write them off.
