Gibson
Norwich set to sign him, £7-£8 million.
Looks like this is going to happen.

Re: Gibson
Yes he'll be leaving the building, and possibly so will Tarks, so I fervently hope we are seeking 2 centre backs urgently, Dunne & Long are not the answer apart from the odd emergency, and Dunne might not even be here either, so unless we're going to promote Bobby Thomas we may even be looking at 3 centre backs in this window, time for the recruitment team to earn their corn.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 8:48 pmNorwich set to sign him, £7-£8 million.

Gibson has been a really weird signing. If he hadn't of spilt his dummy out he would of probably been first choice by now from the injury crisis we had at the start of the season.

I think the deal was almost certain, not so sure about the fee.
Still, there's £7m to put together with the money we get for Tarky...every little helps

Re: Gibson
Yep! I was prepared to give them some slack in January, after all they had only just got their feet under the table, and the January market is notoriously difficult, but this summer is absolutely vital to whether we give ourselves a realistic chance of staying in the PL, we've lucked out this season, and we had all the upheaval from covid and the takeover, but now that's slowly diminishing we'll finally see if they're all mouth and no trousers, or whether they really are prepared to back SD, if it's the latter and we are scrambling around looking for bargain basement signings such as Dale Stephens again, then I fear SD won't stick around much longer, especially if an attractive vacancy should happen to arise.

Re: Gibson
Hard to judge on what little we've seen, but I'd tend to agree with Sean, the lad might well carve out a decent career for himself in the lower reaches, but he doesn't look up to playing week in week out at this level I'm afraid.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 10:01 pmCouple of quotes out there from SD suggesting he doesnt think Dunne is a Premier League player...

Re: Gibson
And some on here were saying we were wrong to say he wasn’t of the required standard.
He never had been, and won’t be in the future. I hope he carves a great lower league career out for himself and his family.

I don't think Dunne wants another deal.
He should never have come back from Hearts.

Wherever he goes he need to be playing regularly, and if he wants to stay local Accy would be a good option, and it's a place he already knows.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 10:14 pmI don't think Dunne wants another deal.

His one abiding memory of his BFC career will no doubt be that superb header at Leicester, and there can't be many defenders who can say they scored on their PL debut.
Best of luck to him in his future career, unless he's lining up against the Clarets of course.

Re: Gibson
I took Dyches comments as doing Dunne a favour. It was a long the lines of he could go to the championship and make a good career out of it.
He’s probably very aware the lad won’t be offered/or won’t accept a new contract so probably trying to help him get a club at a decent level.

Strange how dunne is being wrote off. Hasn’t done much to suggest he is anywhere near as bad as being made out above. He has less than ten appearances in all competitions to his name.

He was thought really highly of at Hearts, and I believe they would have liked to have kept him up there.
Next loan a disaster at Sunderland and not much has happened since....
apart from that debut goal, of course.

Re: Gibson
Jimmy Dunne looked a decent player but he should be very careful in leaving us to pursue other opportunities
Post Covid there is very little money for signings in the lower leagues including those North of the border.

Re: Gibson
Preston wanted him on loan in January, perhaps they're looking at signing him as his contract ends?
I have to say, I think the only reason we offered Dunne a new deal was to ensure we got a fee for him as he is under the age of 24 (similar to Agyei last summer). We probably knew he wouldn't sign it/were not bothered if he did (purely based on Dyche's comments) but this may guarantee us a few hundred grand?

Re: Gibson
What about Richard Nartey? I'd say he's a direct replacement for Dunne and closer to the first team than Bobby Thomas. Long is still under contract and happy to play backup unlike the vast majority of players out there, he's going nowhere. If Tarkowski goes then we need to replace him but the idea of having Mee, Long, Nartey and three other center backs in a 25 man squad is just not realistic.tiger76 wrote: ↑Thu May 06, 2021 9:08 pmYes he'll be leaving the building, and possibly so will Tarks, so I fervently hope we are seeking 2 centre backs urgently, Dunne & Long are not the answer apart from the odd emergency, and Dunne might not even be here either, so unless we're going to promote Bobby Thomas we may even be looking at 3 centre backs in this window, time for the recruitment team to earn their corn.
Everybody knows that Dyche is very loyal to his first choice defenders and anyone who comes in will have to fit with the group and the framework. I struggle to see him finding 3 within budget for 1 place in the first team.
