Two AiSCOUT applicants to be trialed at Barnfield
Sadly my impressive display of keeps-uppies culminating in me smashing it over the garden fence has not borne fruit. However two trialists are evidently being invited to Barnfield for further assessment. Let's hope one of them has electric pace, creativity and the potential for 25 goals a season.

I wonder who the lucky guy at Barnfield was, who had to go through 12,000 videos?
Sounds like the BFC equivelant of the army's spud bashing.

Good luck to them.
It's potentially a good system, that allows late bloomers or former youth players a way (back) into the game.
Also means those players come to us, instead of us hoping the scouts can find them.

Re: Two AiSCOUT applicants to be trialed at Barnfield
The backend of the app does it for them - they "train" the app to get what they want - interesting to know who they used a the model for recruitment i.e wood or vydra for the forward skill etc.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 11:46 amI wonder who the lucky guy at Barnfield was, who had to go through 12,000 videos?

Re: Two AiSCOUT applicants to be trialed at Barnfield
So from 12000+ we’ve got 0.5% coming for some sort of trial?
I know it’s “automated” to some extent but seems a lot of effort for not much return

What if out of the 0.5% we find the next Wood, Pope McNeil or even Messi it will of been worth the effort

You could use that point to say scrap youth set ups. What % of kids would you imagine make it to professional football.

Really hope we unearth some hidden gems.
I’m no scout but theres’s many a footballer I’ve played with with who I thought could make the step up and play professionally.
They just never got the chance for one reason or another.

Got to admit I do sound negative (and believe me I’m not, I’m involved in grassroots coaching) I think I was just expecting more of a hit rate for some reasonclaretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 12:05 pmYou could use that point to say scrap youth set ups. Those 2 could be the next Messi & Ronaldo.
If anything I am glad the uptake is so small, shows there is a decent level of criteria required rather than accepting loads

There’s another 24 invited for a trial match. Perhaps a few more might come through there
Re: Two AiSCOUT applicants to be trialed at Barnfield
It sounds like a system that would work for non league/league two sides, similar to the Jamie Vardy academy thing.

One of the four invited is already playing in US College football, so I don't think we will be the only club that know about him.Dodobdobodobo wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 12:14 pmThere’s another 24 invited for a trial match. Perhaps a few more might come through there
Obviously, we all hope this works for BFC, but it's hard for real talent to go unnoticed in this 'Connected' world. We'll need more than our fair share of luck to unearth a 'Gem'.

Well that's the point really, it's to enable a wide net to be cast with a minimum amount of incremental effort. Realistically the current iteration of the app isn't going to be great, these rounds will also be used to fine tune what it's looking for.
Obviously there's a potential issue that the time and effort of the BFC staff is being used to develop a third party app. The flip side is obviously if it works and we get in some players that make a profit/improve the first team.

I see that we’re still searching for a proof reader, judging by that article.
The hit rate will always be small with scouting, whatever method is used. There could be some talent to be unearthed though - it’s an opportunity that might not otherwise be there for, as an example, kids in a remote African village.

Re: Two AiSCOUT applicants to be trialed at Barnfield
24 players who'll be assessed in 1 game? Is someone's maths a bit crap or more worryingly the organiser's knowledge of football? Harsh for the two lads who are on the bench. A long way to come from USA, Canada, Malaysia or New Zealand for 90 minutes of football or less.
Clearly we would never have scouted those players from far a field so this could be a positive addition to our scouting if it brings just one player through to the first team.
The idea of using this for the ladies team is a pretty good idea as I'm sure their scouting resources are much lower than the mens.

Re: Two AiSCOUT applicants to be trialed at Barnfield
Echoes of Burnley establishing Gawthorpe in 1955, and the idea of developing its own pro’s of the future. Five years later we won the title, 1968, the FA youth Cup. Sounds an interesting development and hopefully we’ll get some cracking prospects and first teamers.

Is there any info on Dyche’s involvement in this scheme? I am assuming he would be heavily involved in the selection process?

Tony, is Dyche involved in academy recruitment to some extent?
I just assumed he would be involved in all levels of recruitment.
What would be the point in taking on a youth player if Dyche didn’t think they would fit?

It's extra work for Dyche, he won't be here forever and some of those lads who don't make the grade can be sold on for a profit.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 2:36 pmTony, is Dyche involved in academy recruitment to some extent?

He wouldn't know if they'd fit at a young age, hence why its delegated to the youth academy.

He will have some involvement and works alongside but we saw the problems the last time we allowed a manager to have control of the academy.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 2:36 pmTony, is Dyche involved in academy recruitment to some extent?

Re: Two AiSCOUT applicants to be trialed at Barnfield
I'd expect his involvement in the academy is minimal. You don't really want the academy direction chopping and changing depending on who the manager is, it's pretty unlikely that most managers would be around to benefit from the youngsters that join under their reign.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 2:36 pmTony, is Dyche involved in academy recruitment to some extent?

The vast majority of academy output, particularly whilst we're in the premier league, is going to be on loan/sold. Chelsea probably have the best model for this in terms of generating revenue and I would think that we're well aware of that.
Howe hasn't been forgiven by some because he had some control over the direction of the academy, it's not something that works that well.

Re: Two AiSCOUT applicants to be trialed at Barnfield
Disappointed by this, not because we are doing it, but because we are telling everyone we are doing it. If this gives us a competitive advantage in finding talent - why tell everyone?
Read an article in the Wall Street Journal about how Barnsley found the lad from Orlando who was instrumental in getting them into the playoffs. They have two algorithms for finding talent and they are a well kept secret. Why let everyone know what you are doing? Pretty soon, better financed and "bigger" clubs will jump on it and we get out competed again - same as the transfer market.

This method of scouting is clearly the way forward for smaller clubs. It’s worked very well for Barnsley and if they don’t go up via the play offs - they should be the first place we go shopping this summer

That’s how I see it and how I believe it’s been since Cotterill was appointed in 2004 apart from the period when Howe was here.aggi wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 3:13 pmI'd expect his involvement in the academy is minimal.
