If true (and it’s The Sun...) he needs the book throwing at him. Drink driving is unforgivable.

To be honest I thought his time was up here after his performances in the last two seasons.
It definitely is now.
Really poor that.

Re: Ashley Barnes arrested
Not good from Barnes, and I'm not surprised SD is fuming at him, he's not a youngster either he's an experienced pro who should command respect in the dressing room, and he should know better than to get into his car when steaming, these headlines don't reflect well on the club either.
Re: Ashley Barnes arrested
Not good and out of character. Who is going to drive the minibus now? He' is a passenger now!
He will be judged in court and by the club. That will be the end.
Look forward to see him best season.

Players rarely if ever get sacked, however it could well hasten his departure from the club this summer. I can us letting him go for a modest fee to any Championship sides who express an interest.

Wow, very disappointing and he's very lucky no one was hurt if he had spent 4 hours on the lash.
Wonder if anyone tried to stop him driving home after getting off the coach?

Presumably the club ok'd the 4 hour booze up on the coach home ?
Re: Ashley Barnes arrested
Bloody hell, Ashley. I can quite understand getting ****** up on the coach journey home but pay for a taxi for crying out loud.
It’s not as if he doesn’t earn enough.

Aren't they having to use 3 separate coaches to away games due to Covid? May explain it if Dyche and Woan etc were on a different coach.

I wonder if any others drove home who had been boozing on the bus. No doubt the club want to make it obvious they are angry but you do wonder whether they cared as long as no one got caught. Not good PR for the club at all.

I doubt Burnley monitor how much the players are drinking and what their plans are after anymore than my work would monitor mine.

Can't see our new owners being too happy with any alcohol related misdemeanors given their background
Re: Ashley Barnes arrested
I’m also disappointed that after leaving the coach another team mate or member of staff didn’t check how he and no doubt others were getting home.

Typical Sun holding it back till after a big game to boost the sensationalism. Bad if he has done it but let’s not act like a huge number of people haven’t done it before. He’s had a beer then driven his car a tiny distance home.

He’s on his way out of the club anyway . Even at 3am on empty roads it’s bloody stupid risk to take . As for the usual virtuous knee jerkers re: “ terminate his contract “ etc etc etc ....

FFS guys. The 4 hour booze up is a **** headline grabber. Not defending him at all but we’ll probably find he’s had two pints and is just over the limit.
Re: Ashley Barnes arrested
I’m presuming he’s driven from Burnley to Cheshire. That’s not a tiny distance.Milltown1882 wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 10:50 pmTypical Sun holding it back till after a big game to boost the sensationalism. Having said that, he can’t have got from London, to Burnley and back to Cheshire in that timescale. So where’s he driven from?

Re: Ashley Barnes arrested
Hard to imagine nobody stopping him from driving if he was blotto. I expect the majority of the match day staff all get dropped off right beside where all of their cars are parked. Dyche, Woan, Ben Mee, Ash Westwood etc aren't gonna watch somebody do something so stupid, are they? If any of them has turned a blind eye then it's not only Barnes that should be getting disciplined.
More likely he had a 2 or 3 bottles on the coach home and assumed he'd be back under the limit by the time they reached Burnley and he needed to drive.
That doesn't excuse him of course but it's a big departure from the '4 hour drinking session' the article makes reference to.

Re: Ashley Barnes arrested
Bye bye Ashley...
Get him sold this summer to whoever wants to buy him. I don’t think there’ll be many (any?) takers in the Premier League so any reasonable offer from a championship club and we should accept it.
I don’t think I’d openly transfer list him but I’d certainly let his agent know that he won’t be starting another game at Burnley and is now very definitely 4th choice so it would be to Barnes’ benefit to find a new club and that we wouldn’t stand in his way.
Likely a sad end to his time at the club but it is definitely self inflicted and I’m sorry but I have no sympathy when it comes to this type of stuff having been hit by a drunk driver and had the vehicle I was driving (a minibus) turned over onto its side and spun 270 degrees! I, and the passengers in the minibus, were lucky that we weren’t injured (well not physically anyway) but I know it could (should?) have been a very different outcome.

Surely it would make more impact before a big gameMilltown1882 wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 10:50 pmTypical Sun holding it back till after a big game to boost the sensationalism. He’s obviously had more than a beer and where do you get a huge number of people haven’t done it before, speak for yourself.

Re: Ashley Barnes arrested
Really gutted about this. There's just no excuse. I have bought a self tester for about £20. I would never drink and drive on an evening but worry about the next day so, if I plan on driving in the morning, I always test myself. If it's anywhere near the limit (even if just under) I just don't drive. It's so simple to do and I'd urge anyone who drinks late in the evening to do the same. Be late for work. Let someone down. Just don't kill someone by being over the limit.

No it isn’t, but let’s see how far he got.
Not the point I know. He’s made a mess of things...thankfully not hurt anyone.
Barnes fans = fine him and let’s get on with it...
Barnes haters = flog him and sack him and burn him and never let him play for the club again.

Re: Ashley Barnes arrested
I’m not condoning it, throughout my life I’ve never got in a car with a friend that has been drinking and I would always try to tell people not to but anyone can see the reasoning they would have in their mind. They think they’re untouchable but obviously in this case not. Hopefully it’ll be a lesson learnt.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 11:01 pmWouldn't matter if he'd been dropped of 50 metres from home, still shouldn't have driven.

Back in the day we all did it ( even of rarely )and all knew the consequences of being caught ie driving ban , possible job loss and jail if an accident etc . Millionaire footballers should know better . Least nobody was hurt and hopefully a serious lesson learnt .
