Thank God for Grealish. I don't think he will be in the starting eleven however.

I'll be amazed if Man City, Chelsea, Man United don't make a move for Grealish

It’s a dive is that. Blatant.

Re: England v Romania
Every manager is doing the same thing, why on earth would they risk their best players in a friendly against Romania? Common sensetiger76 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 4:44 pmSounds about right to me, I'd add Mings to that list if Gareth goes 3 at the back in the Croatia game.
But it does seem bizarre to have warm up games and not play your 1st XI and try and get some sort of continuity.
Interesting that he's picked the eve of a tournament to give Sam Johnstone his debut, I understand he'll need blooding at some point, but you'd have thought he'd have given Dean Henderson a game if he's going to be the number 2.
Jordan Henderson to get 45 minutes, so I'm guessing they'll be wholesale changes at HT.
But I honestly can't see many of this starting XI featuring in the opening match.

Yes we all know it's a pen, but it was earned in what in my day would have been called cheating.

One of the best we have, Villa conceded less goals than us last year yet the way some talk on here Mee and Tarkowski are the best thing since sliced bread. Mings just saved a certain goal btw.

I edited this as I knew I’d have to explain to grealish but I do agree Grealish is a better player, but I’m just looking at the options. It’s a tough choice really, for me Mount and Foden have to play, which leaves the left hand side being the toughest pick, Grealish is so tough to play against but isn’t as quick as Sterling which brings its advantages too. If we can get Shaw overlapping Grealish on the regular then I’d prefer that.
Also I’ve made a mess of the quotes here

Hang on? Have we just brought on a player who isn't in the squad we're taking, in the final minutes of our final friendly before a major tournament?

That one WAS a penalty
Re: England v Romania
How is it not a pen though? he was off balance from being pulled while he was knocking it around the defender, the contact continued into the box.

There's 26 friggin players in the squad!!!!
Are there seriously 15 of them unable to play a friendly to prepare for a major tournament???

Re: England v Romania
We should've asked Southgate to give Ashley Barnes a run out to stretch his legs.

Re: England v Romania
Come to think of it, I could do with stretching my legs a bit.
If I play for England it could save me my subs too, presuming they don't have to pay.

Re: England v Romania
Austria and Romania were obviously lined up to be cannon fodder, with England winning by 3-4 goals in each game.
Yet in both matches England have been hanging on at the end!

Re: England v Romania
There's a spot to be filled with TAA injured, Maguire/Saka are injured currently and Henderson has just returned so who knows if he'll last. The few who missed the 26 could be needed, 1 already is. We've had alot of players involved in the European finals recently, I'd rather they were fit fresh and recharged for the Euros than burnt out and risked in a friendly against Romania. I swear when we were promoted, we lost friendlies to Chesterfield and Accy.

Did we play triallists in our final friendlies of the pre-season?KRBFC wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 6:51 pmThere's a spot to be filled with TAA injured, Maguire/Saka are injured currently and Henderson has just returned so who knows if he'll last. That would be a more apt comparison.
Re: England v Romania
I'm not a Southgate fan but the negativity on here when England play a friendly is weird, get over it Tarkowski, Mee, Cork and Brownhill aren't in the squad. Lets see how England do in the Euros, hopefully win it.

Exactly. We finished 17th, I wouldn’t want anyone but Pope or Tarks anywhere near the squad from our team.

Job done, big boys back before the proper stuff next week. Some fringe players have looked good, some not so good. Most of the work will be done away from these games over the last couple of weeks. Bring on Croatia!!

Re: England v Romania
Surely we know by now that Friendlies and Qualifiers mean absolutely naff all.
You’ve just got to hope we get through and then it’s that little bit of luck we need to get past France/Germany/Portugal to reach the Semis

Re: England v Romania
But why would he risk the big names of burn out/injuries in friendlies, days before the Euros where we have a real chance of winning it all? Like I said, recharged refreshed and ready to go in the Euros is all that matters from these friendlies.

Re: England v Romania
It's been an inspiring game and has put the fans in an optimistic frame of mind for the tournament
Re: England v Romania
Konsa was far better than Mings last year for Villa. When Mings was injured, Villa actually had a better defensive record! His positioning is poor and discipline bizarre. He will cost us no doubt. Doesn’t have to be Tark (although I do rate him higher than Mings) but I’d rather see Konsa or White in there before him too.
Re: England v Romania
First pen was v soft and Grealish knew what he was doing just like he did when he was rubbing his head after being hit in the shoulder.
Re: England v Romania
Who said he will even start? I'd assume Stones and Maguire at the first 2. I'm not gonna cry about who starts in a meaningless fitness exercise friendly.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 6:58 pmKonsa was far better than Mings last year for Villa. Re: England v Romania
Mings will cost us IF he plays. I’ve never seen a centre half man -handle/ foul his opponent as much as him. He’s dogger.
Re: England v Romania
Gareth is so inspiring when he speaks. No wonder the players have such passion.
Re: England v Romania
Well if Maguire isn’t fit, which it seems unlikely that he will be, either Mings or Coady starts alongside Stones. That simply isn’t good enough to progress unfortunately.
