Aww, bless the little loves...
They didn't half look confused when VAR didn't show up every 3 seconds and they couldn't get a free kick/penalty for dragging their legs behind them.
Shows just how
1) Entitled they are
2) Just how ATROCIOUS the reffing is in the PL.
This ref fell for a bit but he was 10x better than anything in the Prem.

The Sterling pen shout was laughable. To be fair if he had given it VAR wouldn't have overturned it but the touch was very slight.

Re: Aww, bless the little loves...
It's funny how these players go from 1-2 metre strides to 30cm ones when someones leg is near them.
It's pathetic.
Grealish got away with a few blatant dives down the wing towards the end too.

I wouldn’t have given a pen but he did get contact. Yet only 5 mins later Mings shaved a Scots boot and McCoist is saying clear foul. The Sterling incident was far more of a foul.BabylonClaret wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 10:52 pmThe Sterling pen shout was laughable. BTW the ref is getting a lot of plaudits, I thought he made plenty of mistakes.

Re: Aww, bless the little loves...
It gets given as a penalty in the Premier League 9 times out of 10.
Re: Aww, bless the little loves...
"He did get contact"?!? That's just another way of saying that the two players touched each other. Please do not fall for the prevalent idea that if two players touch it is a foul and all the ref has to decide is who fell over first. There is no penalisable offence of "making contact", and if there was, it could only mean that both sides get a free kick at the same time.minnieclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 11:30 pmI wouldn’t have given a pen but he did get contact. And it would be wrong 9 times out of 10. Our refs, as controlled by the hopeless Elleray I believe, would automatically give a foui for anyone who touches another player and throws himself down.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 11:34 pmIt gets given as a penalty in the Premier League 9 times out of 10.

I think we are seeing refs who are not so easily conned as our PL ones.
And our PL VAR isn't helping

Weird thing is that for years English fans have accused foreigners for diving and cheating.

Fairly obvious. We're as bad, if not worse for it.
May be a case that foreign refs have been dealing with it for longer and are less susceptible to being conned so our players don't get away with it in internationals like they do every week in the PL.

Re: Aww, bless the little loves...
Sterling clearly had his toe stood on. At the speed of modern football there is practically no way you could stay on your feet with that contact. Even in walking football it isn't easy to stay on your feet whilst moving if your feet are stood on or you calf/ankle is tapped from behind
Re: Aww, bless the little loves...
The bale penalty was similar. He definitely bought that by leaving his right foot to get caught up. I had very mixed feelings about that one. In the long run I'm glad he missed the penalty as I didn't want to win that way.minnieclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jun 18, 2021 11:30 pmI wouldn’t have given a pen but he did get contact. You can’t honestly be saying that because someone gets his “toe” stood on after he over ran the ball and is otherwise heading to the stands he deserves a penalty. Surely???bfcmik wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 12:43 amSterling clearly had his toe stood on. At the speed of modern football there is practically no way you could stay on your feet with that contact. Are the refs meant to take into account where the ball is going? I’ve seen plenty of penalties when the attackers have no chance of keeping the ballin play.CharlieinNewMexico wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 7:01 amYou can’t honestly be saying that because someone gets his “toe” stood on after he over ran the ball and is otherwise heading to the stands he deserves a penalty. So if the ball hadn’t been going out would you have give it? That shouldn’t make any difference.CharlieinNewMexico wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 7:01 amYou can’t honestly be saying that because someone gets his “toe” stood on after he over ran the ball and is otherwise heading to the stands he deserves a penalty. I’ve said above that I wouldn’t have given it but it was one where if the ref had given it VAR would not have overturned the decision.

Watch it again, clear trip. At the time I thought it was a penalty, would’ve been soft though but still a penalty going by the standards we’ve had to put up with the past few years

Re: Aww, bless the little loves...
The Gareth Bale penalty was just as soft yet was given.
Inconsistencies still remain. Likewise the laughable penalty against Croatia.

Re: Aww, bless the little loves...
Bring back inconsistencies all day for me as long as that means no or minimal VAR. I don't want robotic influence and perfection. As soon as that happens I'll stop watching. I enjoy the spontaneity of what football is, or what it was, and talking about it in the pub afterwards. If you want consistency you're going to end up enormously disappointed at the end result.

Re: Aww, bless the little loves...
He wasn’t running at pace though was he, he’d slowed to almost a stop, he was probably hoping for a push in the back. Yes there was contact with his toe. But he wasn’t fouled, not in a million years. You obviously agree with the “there was contact, he had a right to go down” crap.minnieclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 9:09 amYou’ve obviously never been running at pace and had somebody stand on your toe.

Re: Aww, bless the little loves...
It would stop a lot of diving if the rule was changed so it couldn’t be a penalty/foul if the contact came after it looks like the attacker has lost control of the ball or if it would probably have gone out of play.CharlieinNewMexico wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 7:18 amRefs are supposed to have a certain amount of inherent skills where they can identify whether a player has @@@@ed up and is just trying to make the best of a bad job?

My take on the sterling pen.
Was it a pen? - no but I've seen them given
Would that be given in the prem? - yes especially to the big teams
Am I glad it was not given? - yes. Hopefully this is a wake-up call for Southgate and his **** system

Re: Aww, bless the little loves...
I doubt the pen against Croatia would have been given in the prem. It's ridiculous when two players jump in the box, both looking at the ball and the defender gets penalised.
Players like Ben Mee would be in trouble every single game.
