Lovely photos Steve, it looks a nice area you live in. The Poppy’s look brilliant too. Noticed the huts on the beach, are they those expensive ones that people always pay a fortune for when one becomes available.

Re: Summer Photographs
They appear on the beach for the summer months, and yes they hire them out,and I should imagine they are expensive...that beach is lovely and most of the houses fronting it are holiday rentals,if you love Scotland and have never visited Fife, the East Neuk of Fife is a beautiful place, they even have full blown cricket matches on the beach down by the harbour in front of the Ship inn, they even roll the sand its taken very seriously....from Elie to St Andrews is a beautiful coastline.

Took my Mum out for a drive this afternoon and amongst other places stopped at Padiham Heights and the Nick O' Pendle. Lots of those little gas canisters scattered around at both locations and I find it hard to believe it is anything other than the younger generation that cause this mess

That takes me back a bit john mac...I watched the national hill climb from that spot twice..Once in early 60's when Rossendale's Eric Wilson set the record time...and 20 or so years I stood with Eric as Chris Boardman finally shaved a couple of seconds off it.
Howard Kendall presented the trophy ...There were around 8,000 watching.

Hellish climb and when we descended an older chap was walking up from Sabden, bent over with his hands on his knees but plodding along. Probably does it every day

Re: Summer Photographs
Which climb are you referring to, FB47? Eric had the record for many years for the Rammy Rake, up to the Shoulder of Mutton. Hell of a climber.fatboy47 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 5:58 pmThat takes me back a bit john mac...I watched the national hill climb from that spot twice..Once in early 60's when Rossendale's Eric Wilson set the record time...and 20 or so years I stood with Eric as Chris Boardman finally shaved a couple of seconds off it.

Nick of Pendle minnie.....it was used a good few times for the National Hill Climb Champs in and around the 60s.
Yep, he was an incredible talent...there was a bloke from Manchester who was his main rival... I think Pete Graham was his name...they had many epic battles.

Re: Summer Photographs
Returning from a walk around the woods at Gawthorpe a young Fledgling Heron appeared from the scrub near the fenced off pitch and walked over the road then back again. it did a bit of wing flapping but I'm not sure if it is okay to fly or fell out of wherever it was born. Concerned for its wellbeing I tried to encourage it back towards the Calder or at least deeper into the woods. After about 20 minutes of careful marshalling it decided enough was enough and refused to go any further, I hope it makes it back to somewhere safe!

Same trip as BfcDaz to see the seabirds of the Saltees Islands in Wexford, and this puffin landed close by, late in the afternoon with a mouthful of sand eels manoeuvred to position him against some dark rocks, in order to remove the whole of the background by under exposing the shot

Re: Summer Photographs
600mm lens and a small crop. The birds land on the ledge in front, scuttle up to the plateau and down into their burrows quickly. This one took around 15 seconds from landing to disappearance.
