Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I am coming more and more to the view that we do have deals which are all but completed and are in the pipeline but that the club is either unwilling or unable to pay most of the transfer fees fees upfront and need for the necessary funds to become available from a sale to do so. Although it is claimed Tarks is staying I believe he will be sold in the few days before the window shuts. Teams like the Hammers know full well that if Tarks goes on a free next summer they won't be the ones who get him and if they really want him they will pay for him before. We won't get as much as we would want but it will release the funds for us to start to get deals completed. If not Tarks then McNeil will be sold which will give us the money to get things done. If we sell him for £25m then we will have been robbed. We won't get £50m but we could get £35m to £40m plus add ons and a hefty sell on clause.
Most deals will be done in the week before the window shuts so I wouldn't panic about our transfers in yet. I expect a bit of a bidding war for McNeil as there are supposedly a number of teams who are very keen.
Burnley are said to be taking a longer look at Thomas Robert the winger from Airdrie are are thought to be making a move on him.
Liverpool are offloading Ben Davies, Harry Wilson and Ben Woodburn to raise funds. I thought Burnley were linked to Davies and Wilson. Woodburn looked a decent prospect before his injuries. Perhaps we could make an offer to take all 3 for one fee ?

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
that is the figure reported to be taken from club funds the rest is debt and a little bit of cash (that probably came from Checketts and Parra not the ALK three)
so if you think they have taken more out of the club please explain, also please explain how much you think they should have taken for their shares.
Bear in mind the debt was not brought by them, and we have no real indication as to whether there was any worthy bidder with appropriate funds to not use leverage as a means to buy the club and many on here wanted Garlick out. If you know of alternatives to that knowledge I would be interested to hear it.

We are led to believe there are 3 share payments outstanding so who knowskentonclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 2:26 pmPerhaps we'll fare better with a on-off circa £25m for Dwight.
Or is that destined for directors bank accounts also?

So you've no alternative information you can share with supporting facts?
Ok cool, for now though we will stick with what Chester shares on the MMT thread and the ALK takeover thread

People put time and effort in to deciphering the club accounts so people can make an informed judgement on where the money has gone.
The gossip on the Turf, on here and on other social media platforms is not backed up by the facts and realities of the situation

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
In response to my earlier quotes. You have to look at the bigger picture. Its nothing about this particular Brighton deal, but everything to do with how much more clubs have around us to spend all-round.
It has changed, and its not the same as it used to be. We now have the likes of Brighton, Leeds, Villa and Wolves throwing cash about. I don't think anyone really condemned it when it was the likes of Everton or West Ham, but now its a whole lotta more clubs that will steal targets from us.
Also Brighton could afford to spend that much money even without selling White. They have a sugar daddy owner like others.

Townsend is very much a Burnley-like signing. He’d improve us, not sure he improves Everton. They think a lot of themselves so I’m. Sure they’ll be fuming about all threeSalisburyClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 10:15 amI’m sure they’ll be pleased with Townsend (well as pleased as an Everton fan can be). But the other 2 bench warmers will set them off moaning like a Preston fan

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Townsend & Benitez are meant to get along well back to the Newcastle days, the signings probably don’t improve the starting positions but strengthen the bench in adding options, he’s probably already assessed everything & maybe happy with the 11 but feels improvements are needed beyond that,
to do what he’s already done hasn’t cost a fortune as well.
Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
So Everton sign Begovic and we sign Hennessey - not a lot of difference really is there ?
And wasn't Townsend seen by quite a few on here as a potential excellent signing for us ?

Can't imagine Everton fans are too happy* signing James Rodriguez followed by Andros Townsend

As a general point, I don't think comparing Everton's activity in the transfer market with Burnley's is a meaningful comparison.

Where has the Dyche to sign a new contract thread gone? I reckon to have looked through the last 3 pages but can’t seem to find it.
I’m sure it will still be there and I have somehow missed it.

I see Everton have signed Begović.
Why have they signed a goalkeeper who has been rubbish for quite a few seasons?

I would say all three would be considered decent signings for us.
My point was more that Everton fans have much higher expectations than us?

Begovic has been completely rubbish for a few seasons. So no, he wouldn't be considered a good signing for us. He's no better than Norris is.

Hennessy a good signing as BPF doesn’t look quite ready ( IMO) as full back up for Pope . WH could also easily start if Pope goes ,so good business . Not unlike Everton with Begovic , high quality back up at a bargain price .
As for someone comparing Begovic to Norris

Football, and having a successful first team, is about so much more than just having top players.
You need people like Begovic, Townsend, to be part of the group and lead and echo the message to the youngsters about the culture the manager brings.
Too many kids, imports, and you lose that very quickly.

Begovic was great last season in the championship
But the two seasons before that he was really poor for Bournemouth and got loaned out to somewhere in Russia I think
Hennessey is better than Begovic, but I think its stretching it to say that Norris is better than him!

I've always thought that Begovic had a mistake in him.
Can't say I know much about Hennessey, but I would say that plenty on here seeing him as so much better than BPF should probably save their opinions until he actually plays.

Potential BPF to Birmingham..
I think it would be a good move for him at a decent level and then see where we are next season, hopefully it bring out his full potential.

True, it’s 1 of them whoever other people sign it’ll be criticised & what we sign is the flawless real deal, that’s including a 19yr messi wonderkid to a 35yr veteran defender the roles would even be reversed.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 9:52 amI've always thought that Begovic had a mistake in him.

Is Begovic going as back up or as a No 3?
I think that BPF needs 1st team football, and he's not going to get that here
I think that we need cover for Pope based on the games we've seen when he's not there

Yes, a move to us would benefit him financially, but not sure it would improve him enough to get the attention of the bigger premier league clubs, and at Celtic (however briefly!) he's playing European football
