COVID passports at Chelsea

Post by claretburns » Thu Jul 29, 2021 1:07 am

Chelsea have confirmed their home games this season will require fans to provide a negative result or be fully vaccinated to attend - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58000003

I don't get the fully vaccinated argument as being fully vaccinated does not stop you having the virus, if we're going down this route surely providing a negative test should be safer?

Fully vaccinated reduces the risk of you being seriously ill or worst case dying by up to 80%

Fully vaccinated reduces by 50% your chance of catching enough viral load to be ill and then reduces the chance of those who do still catch it infecting others by a further 50% thus making people with 2 doses 75% less likely to pass on sufficient viral load to infect others

it's not just about supporters, they are also trying to protect their staff I would imagine (as much as they can)

Glad the negative test is in there and I hope that is the standard across grounds this season rather than coercing jabs.

Wonder what time they will have to open the turnstiles if they are physically going to check every single person?

The thing is, it is too easy to 'provide' a negative test. This is done via the home testing kits so what is to stop someone registering a negative test on the website even if they get a positive test OR are they going to test every supporter on the day with the lateral flow test that do not have 2 jabs?

Surely it's a simple task to add it to the season ticket cards, which would reduce the numbers having to be checked on matchday

This - all people have to do is enter a negative with the barcode on a lateral flow test. It’s too open to manipulation.

When I went to the Euros here in Rome earlier this month my test was done at a local pharmacy, printed out and signed. Not sure if that process is similar or could work in England.

Interestingly, anyone with vaccines won't need to provide a negative test (I think?) but yet could well be carrying the virus and more likely to be than someone who hasn't had the vaccine but provides a negative test!

Surely if the rules of the place you are entering are fully vaccinated or proof of a negative test and you decide to cheat this then you are a bit of a c**t

Obviously won't be watertight but reduces risk considerably and so sensible proposals providing effective yet simple arrangements are put in place.

Just imagine requiring negative tests at Turf Moor especially going into the Bob Lord.
Steward...are you negative you need proof
Supporter...of course I am Dyche out, he'll take us down, we've done nothing since we sold Jimmy Mac, we need more wingers and a proper centre forward, pies are to dear as well, now let me pass.

If they ask for Covid Passes to be shown at the Turf, and in all likelihood they will, There'll be queues for sure. The Liverpool game in May with only 6,000 spectators queuing wasn't that bad- but you were asked to be at the ground at 7:00 for an 8:15 KO.
For a full house v Brighton queues will be a lot longer. Let's Just hope it's not raining.

The club have contacted me and advised providing I continue to post as I do on this mesageboard then no test will be needed

Personally would prefer if everyone were tested. The figures above are right - double vaccinated have a 75% less chance of passing Covid on, but in a crowd of 20k, many will not feel reassured that there’s 5k amongst them that may have Covid. The vaccine may protect you from serious illness but it doesn’t protect from illness altogether or 10 days house arrest if they catch it, which is hugely inconvenient.

All that said, I agree there are flaws with the testing system. I can’t understand why the government don’t require a photo of the test swab, then check it using software before approval it’s negative. Although you could still use someone else’s swab to get the negative result, I suppose.

I hope this happens at the Turf. It means that people like my grandad will go back on. Also, this will encourage people to get both jabs. Bring it on!

We only just managed to contain the first wave because we locked down hard. We all lost our personaly liberty and freedom but we managed to protect the NHS.

We only just managed to contain the first wave because we locked down hard. We all lost our personaly liberty and freedom but we managed to protect the NHS.

This third wave looks for all the world like it's decided to follow the same bell curve without a lockdown and despite the fact that we've done the opposite and relaxed restrictions.

We've been living like hermits for over a year now. It's time to accept the limitations of what can be done to control respiratory diseases and start living again. Bits of paperwork won't change this whatsoever.

The only thing that will truly help is taking the vaccine or wearing a properly fitting FFP3 respirator. You can buy these for a couple of quid! Treat yourself!

Lockdowns and cloths masks do nothing to stop the disease. Vaccine passports and negative lateral flow test do nothing to stop the disease while curtailing your basic liberties.

At the Euros you didn't even need to take the test. Just report online that you tested negative and you'd get a text/email confirmation saying that you were OK to enter the stadium.

So those who've not had the experimental vaccine can prove they're virus free, by providing a negative test.

You can be positive, carrying the virus and have the potential to spread the virus but because you've got a vaccine passport you can come in?

How does presenting a "passport" in any way shape or form prevent the spread of a virus?

Answer . It doesn't.
Experimental?

The Covid vaccines have gone through the exact same process as the other vaccines. I have literally seen with my own eyes the process.

If you don’t want to take it that is fine but please don’t spread mis information on it.

You're assuming I'm not double jabbed.

Given the vaccine has only been in peoples bodies for a maximum of 8 months it is literally , impossible to ascertain whether or not there will be any long term detrimental effects on people's health.

Or are you going to say, " 6 months down the line and not a single foetal abnormality reported. Alls good !"

No I’m just merely saying that the term experimental makes it sound like it hasn’t go through the exact same process that every other vaccine in the past has had to go through.

Is there now a vaccine which prevents people spreading misinformation too? I guess like the covid one it too is only 75% effective. ;)

The first went in well over 12 months ago when it was being tested.

The lesson being that we can get through a surge without a major lockdown because the majority of the population are vaccinated.

If people have chosen not to take a vaccine then they should provide a test result prior to entry. They can’t expect no restrictions. If the majority chose not to take a vaccine there would be no football matches for anyone to attend.

Are you saying those vaccinated have had a magical portion which lasts forever and fights against every single variant of Covid which will come in the future?
