Team v Tranmere
Re: Team v Tranmere
Was it the clubs decision to charge or were we obliged to do so?

Probably going to give fans the "chance" to leave the money in the club as well as offering a refund or discount onto clubshop card.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Jul 31, 2021 1:58 pmThis appeared on the club website: "Information regarding supporters who bought a match pass for a streaming of the game will follow."
Why don't they just make refunds?

With the meltdown of some fans on Twitter you’d think it was the FA Cup Final not a pre season kickabout

Re: Team v Tranmere
Our 2 'poor' PL seasons both followed curtailed pre-season work. The first because we were involved in the Europa League and the 2nd because we were late ending the previous season because of the pandemic. I think we'll be relatively comfortable this season after SD and his mob get the players properly sharp.

These wins won’t be doing anything to convince the board that we need to add to the team

I know they are only friendlies etc but I have a real feeling that Dwight will excel this season.
Re: Team v Tranmere
He’s played a few fantastic balls into the box, in the last two games and now topped off with a decent strike too.

That team might JUST scratch points against the newly promoted and couple of other rags ,but it’s almost an XI from 3 /4 seasons ago and is a travesty if we don’t bring a couple of decent players in . ( and I don’t mean Wood and Pope) our tiny pool of talent ie erm Dwight/Taylor ? with mentions for Wood/Jay desperately need SOMETHING/ANYTHING to add quality

We actually need to do better against the eventual bottom 6 than we did last season, then we give ourselves a chance.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 31, 2021 7:28 pmThat team might JUST scratch points against the newly promoted and couple of other rags ,but it’s almost an XI from 3 /4 seasons ago and is a travesty if we don’t bring a couple of decent players in . Dwight's looking sharp, which is great to see, you do wonder if England failing to qualify for the u21's will ultimately be too Burnley's benefit, dwight badly needed a long break from the game, and this summer afforded him that chance of a welcome breather, I just hope he'll still be with us in a months time, with the rumours about Villa being interested, if and probably now when Grealish goes to City.

Whilst true, it's also satisfying that we were less reliant on the poorer sides last season, taking more points against better teams.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Jul 31, 2021 7:40 pmWe actually need to do better against the eventual bottom 6 than we did last season, then we give ourselves a chance.

Re: Team v Tranmere
Strange season for most teams though wasn't it, and you'd imagine most sides will vastly improve on their home records compared to last season, so let's just hope that we're one of those sides.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Jul 31, 2021 8:07 pmYes, strange season for us what with the very poor home form.
Doubles against Wolves and Palace wasn't it?
Equally it's incredibly unlikely we'll collect maximums from our trips to Anfield, Goodison and The Emirates, so we will need to try and ensure we rack up a fair amount of points, and ideally wins against those teams that'll be in and around us in the bottom half of the table, prior to last season that had provided the bedrock of our continued survival in the PL, and it'll likely play a major part in how we fare next season also, when you'd expect some form of normality to return, and results shouldn't be quite as unpredictable.
Our opening home match against Brighton is a perfect example of the type of game where we should be looking to claim all 3 points.

Re: Team v Tranmere
Always nice to get a win! Not a bad lineup at all but a bit worrying looking at that bench even with wood and Pope to return. We are very thin on the ground while simultaneously needing to improve our first 11. Not just for this season but with an eye on bringing the age down a bit in the coming seasons. Can't beat father time, It's just a fact some of our squad are passing their physical peak. Big few weeks ahead.
Anyway well played lads, onward!

Wouldn't be pre season without somebody suggesting one of our finely tuned footballers is overweight......superdimitri wrote: ↑Sat Jul 31, 2021 10:13 pmAnyone think Barnes looked overweight? Nice header and cross though.
Maybe we could do a sweep for the foodbanks on who will be picked out for some ridiculous reason on the team photo.

Just an observation compared to last season, wondered if anyone else noticed. That's all. Sorry for being annoying.

Who did it better?
Ashley Barnes in a pre season friendly against Tranmere, or Robin Van Persie in the World Cup against Spain?

Re: Team v Tranmere
Two moments of real top level quality from Dwight, I think this could be the season where we see truly how good he is.
Re: Team v Tranmere
Agree but he needs support. He is class but for example last year he played near enough every 90 minutes in every game, in an already congested season - at times he looked goosed (who can blame him). Also due to us having next to zero threat on the other wing, he gets targeted as our main threat - rightly so - and at times found it difficult. If we are able to secure two wingers, with a genuine threat on the other wing and good sub for rotation I think he will really shine this season.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 9:34 amTwo moments of real top level quality from Dwight, I think this could be the season where we see truly how good he is.

Re: Team v Tranmere
I agree. He had an average season by his standards last year, but given the lack of fans and the fact our entire creative impetus was carried on his shoulders, that’s hardly surprising. Beth thing we could do is put someone on the other side with similar levels of talent and skill to take some of the pressure off.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 9:34 amTwo moments of real top level quality from Dwight, I think this could be the season where we see truly how good he is.
