Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
Some concerns getting aired amongst the great unwashed down the M65.
All manner of staff heading for the exit..most having walked..no talk of replacements. Senior academy staff the latest to leave the ship...lots of exits amongst the playing staff...some of their higher earners too..and rumour has it that Venks weren't prepared to fund wages for new arrival Adam Reach (free transfer)...no sign of significant incomings.
Sale of the academy facility at Brockhall, or at least downsizing of same has resurfaced as an issue.
Feelings growing that Venkys are ready to pull the plug.

I’d do a little wee in my pants if the Venky’s upped sticks and really left the Bastards in the mire.

Serious question. Would you want them to completely fold or keep them where they are knowing that we might play them again at some stage in the future.

I'd be happy with a fall through the leagues to maybe the old Lancashire Combination level. Maybe a dozen years down there before they finally crawl back to peak at League 2 level.
I can then visit Ewood regularly for a spot of gloating and general grief tourism.

Re: Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
Burnley Football Club is an important part of my life and I’d be devastated to see it taken away from me, I’ve seen my Bury supporting friends go through it. It’s very sad.
I have friends who support Blackburn, I enjoy having a natter about all things footy with them. It nice to have the banter with them too. I wouldn’t like to see my friends lose their club.
It’s like not being an animal lover and wanting your mates dog to die

I am happy to see them suffer, but not to go under.
Things are pretty good for us atm despite our continued gambles with under strength squads. However, things can change quickly, especially when debt is involved. So any gloating would be off my agenda.

I’d want them to fold, then we could wind them up about their ‘lack of trophies’ when the Phoenix club arose.

Re: Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
I'd never want any club to fold, especially one local to East Lancs, not least because of the damage it would cause to the local community & economy, just look at Bury's sad demise to see the dreadful impact that such an event would have.
However this is the chickens now coming home to roost for Rovers, they've been running at a loss for several seasons I believe, and that's simply not substantial even in normal times, let alone without factoring covid into the equation.
I wouldn't get too smug about our neighbours financial woes though, as in the event of relegation, and no seemingly with a large debt to repay, we could quickly find ourselves in similar dire straits, the positive for us as that we've still got plenty of saleable assets, should the worst come to the worst.
Rovers have only Armstrong (now in the final year of his contract, and Dack who's unfortunately for him recovering from yet another ACL injury, his 2nd in the space of less than 18 months, so I don't see an obvious quick fix for them, and cost-cutting is finally starting to really bite them now.

When does it stop though? Chucking another £35m just to cover costs is mental.
Re: Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
I doubt they'll go anywhere any time soon. They could only sell if they wrote off all the money owed to them and I can't see them doing that.

Some take far too seriously, and personally. If I meet a rival fan and they start going down that road, I just tell I’m I’m not interested in any of that and ask them a boring question of stadium redevelopment or something. They soon walk away

I too have many good mates who are Blackburn fans. And it’s a historic northern club who provide us with a great rivalry.
That said, I’d have a beaming smile from ear to ear as I drove a bulldozer into the crumbling remains of Ewood Park and the place of misery was finished for good.

Well, tbh Chester, you could say that about the full £220m or so that Venks have flushed down the bogs at Ewood... Its all been a big vanity project.
But this is genuinely the first time I've picked up so much anxiety from that direction...theres a genuine concern about rats leaving the sinking ship coming from many that thought father Xmas really existed.

Re: Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
I get the point, but that is a lot of money in just the last 8 weeks to then shut it down completely - downsizing on the other hand makes some sense the academy being Cat 1 is expensive to run, particularly for a club generating about £13m a year. Covid will have had a very negative impact and a semblance of sanity has been needed for some time, with them and Preston - who get between $7m and $10m most years from Trevor Hemmings.fatboy47 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 10:46 pmWell, tbh Chester, you could say that about the full £220m or so that Venks have flushed down the bogs at Ewood... Just looking at clubs at that level there are more and more trying to go about it in a more sensible fashion, even if it means bouncing between League 1 and the Championship - not unlike what we are beginning tp see between the Championship and the Premier League

Re: Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
A very credible source tells me that ST sales at Ewood have dipped to levels not seen for over 30 years... 4.7k have been shifted and currently sales are now just a very tiny trickle.
With walk on prices having been raised again it'll be hard to envisage Ewood being packed to the rafters any time soon...

Back to Rovers, it’s been brilliant to gloat after so many years of them lauding it over us regarding league positions. Long may it continue! Wouldn’t want to see them go bust though.

If I think about how I'd feel if ALK were to mismanage us to such a level that we go out of business and fold, I couldn't possibly wish that on any other club.
Filthy lot that they are, their diehards do deserve a football club to support as we all do.

I don’t know an exact figure but here is an overview of availability last Wednesday. Red means ‘limited’. Plenty of sections labelled as ‘good’ availability.

Have plenty of Rovers mates and from recollection everyone of them in 1987 wanted us wound up and disbanded. Non league would be far too good for that lot.

Re: Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
It's a difficult one for me. I grew up mainly amongst Blackburn supporting lads, was at school over that way in 95, they won the league, we were relegated, I was targeted by the older lads and regularly mugged off. It was in this time, when I was about 12/13 that my passion for Burnley exploded. My dad took me everywhere watching Burnley, we had some great times, great results and just good days out. Burnley were down, but my dad used to say it won't be for long. We didn't have much cash back then as a family, but my parents saved up all year so me and my dad could get season tickets to go on.
Despite all the grief I took as a kid, I still have a lot of mates who support rovers, good lads just like us. I can't imagine the pain i'd feel if we were going under.
I wouldn't mind them suffering a bit longer, but to go under? Not for me.

If they crashed out of the EFL it could be worth a couple of thousand extra spectators on the Turf, a little step closer to the rest of the PL financially. I could see ALK getting their marketing team on this one.
