Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
Re: Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
I spent the first 28 years of my life in that place of misery. They have reaped what they sowed
My worry is what ALK will do. The busy transfer window is nowhere in sight.
Our staff are probably disappearing at a faster rate than the exits from Evilwood
It isn’t nice for any club to be ruined by their owners even that lot.But it is funny

We should be careful what we wish for. If/when we get relegated and don't make a quick return there is a very good chance we will have massive financial problems like Rovers and Bolton before them.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 8:00 amFold
Knock the ground down and build a sports direct megastore in its place for the scrubbers to shop at
For all the gloating we could be staring into the abyss within the next ten seasons if we are not too careful.
Re: Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
I want them to do a Stockport, fade into insignificance, Deadwood demolished and they share ground with Darwen then they can huddle around a communal Bovril and recall when the ironmonger bought them a title and Shearer was red hot then they could do a half hearted flem affected chant of Uncle Jack's beermy eerrmy whilst the ref blows for the second half of the local derby versus Oswaldtwistle casuals in the forlorn hope the 4-0 scoreline can be reversed.

Not a word of the above changes my desire for them to fold and be knocked down
Re: Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
Got Rovers mates too. Don't think I'd want them to fold but a four or five year spell in League Two suffering 0-6 home defeats at home to the likes of Sutton United and Rochdale in front of 2,000 crowds would complete the turnaround in fortunes nicely.

An 8 season minimum spell in the bottom tier flirting with the bottom spot would be better ... trumping our 7

Not sure how anyone can want a football club, particularly one with so much history, to fold. Not when you consider how much they mean to the supporters and local community.

Oh I wouldn't mind them flirting with relegation for every one of those 8 seasons

If they were ready to pull the plug why did they do this in June
and this a little later in June
I can imagine that now they dont know themsleves why they are supporting the club. Its just become routine. They must have thought, some time back that they would win promotion and join the billionaires at the top table. That thought/ wish will have been extinguished now and they have a dilemma. Indian Company just pouring monay down a drain??? Doesn't ring true in my experience.

Don't forget, the current climate will be a reason for that and not necessarily football reasons. Some (myself included) might be uncomfortable with parting their money when their might be the re-introduction of restrictions half way through the season.

Re: Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
I can remember a Rovers fan looking me straight in the face and tell me he hoped Burnley would fold ‘just for the laugh’. I looked at him in astonishment. How could you wish the end of one of the oldest rivalries in football, and be a football supporter.
I have lived among, worked among and been friends with Blackburn fans my entire life… they have given me stick, I have given them stick… we’ve even waved and exchanged greetings across no mans land in the days there was a 90 minute trade of anything throwable…
But I love hating Blackburn Rovers. If they go my football passion is reduced. Football itself is reduced and our rivals become who? Leeds, Man United? Does that remind older viewers of another clubs fans… are we really wanting to be rivals to Stockport or Bolton?
Love them or hate them we are yin and yang. Without one the other loses

Re: Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
The sense I got, certainly when buying my wife a ST when they went on general sale, was that sales were going very well, but clearly I didn’t know know what the take up was from the 14,500.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 9:23 amDon't forget, the current climate will be a reason for that and not necessarily football reasons. I pay annually and didn’t renew last year due to the uncertainty, so was in phase 2. I thought I was all smart initially, then regretted my decision when talk of ballots and the like were being discussed and even more so the £10 deposit. I felt positively relieved when I renewed tbh. If restrictions are reintroduced, I’m pleased that I’ll at least be able to participate in ballots.
What I can’t blame fans for is the general disenchantment at the lack of investment in the team. Nobody can expect fans to keep shelling out their hard earned cash if a level of investment isn’t being made in the squad. Had we done some more of this earlier in the window we may have seen them hold up better.

Re: Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
Blackburn Rovers have owners (incompetent ones) who were and are willing to pour money down the drain to support them even after relegation.
We don't yet know whether our owners are competent. But I think we can be sure that if it all goes belly up, they're not going to fund the club or repay the debts they have run up. Lord knows what Venky's are in this game for, but our are in it for profit. So if an East Lancashire club goes bust, don't automatically assume it will be Blackburn.

Was told last Tuesday by a very reliable source within the club. Worrying but not surprising given some of the prices.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 9:37 amSorry Mark, I made a mess of that, I was wondering where he got those figures from ?

I find it worrying as I don’t really want to be sat in a half empty Turf Moor. Also if the worst happens on the pitch our ticket revenues become a little more important.Culmclaret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 11:47 amGiven the percentage of income which comes from ticket sales and the uncertainty caused by the pandemic it isn’t really that worrying

The problem is that we have absolutely nothing to fall back on if/when we get relegated apart from a season or two of parachute payments.Juan Tanamera wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 2:00 pmI'm sure some come up with this crap so that if it did ever happen (God forbid), they'd be on here in a flash to say "I told you so."

But if they don't survive we can't take delight in constantly beating them can we, how long is it now, must be approaching 4,000 days now.
If they simply fold, and then reform, which is what I assume would happen, then we'd have to wait many years before getting the chance to continue our winning streak against them.

Re: Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
We do have several saleable assets in the event of relegation, but that would only cover our losses for a short time.
And inevitably we would have to cut our cloth accordingly, but the advantage we have over many other Championship clubs, is the relegation clauses in our contracts, that allied to a sale or two should be enough to tide us over, the problem is how we continue to fund our debt repayment with a Championship turnover, especially if we weren't to make an immediate return to the PL.
Re: Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
Don’t want Blackburn to fold. I enjoy them where they are - completely irrelevant. Want them to do an Ipswich basically - spend well over a decade mid table and going nowhere.

Indeed! I'd rather we focussed on keeping out own affairs in order, than worrying about what Rovers and Venky's are doing.dsr wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 10:40 amBlackburn Rovers have owners (incompetent ones) who were and are willing to pour money down the drain to support them even after relegation.

Like them or loathe them you can't deny the Venky's have put their money where their mouth is, and bizarrely they continue to do so, despite getting no apparent benefit from their large outlay, I don't yet know if our new American owners would be so loyal in the event of relegation, and this plus our new debts, again with no obvious gain to the club, leaves me worried about exactly what ALK'S ultimate aims are for BFC.

I want them to suffer 2 relegations, get em down to League 2. Let em suffer the indignity of 3,000 home crowds for a few years, then the Chicken Farmers pull the plug, then they fold. For good. **** em. All these feelings of community, and they don’t deserve it doesn’t apply to that lot in my book. They wanted us gone in 1987, don’t fool yourselves that they didn’t. What goes around comes around. Fingers crossed that they do from me. Slag me off if you feel like it. It’s just my view. I’m entitled to it. UTC.

Well to do that we need to start recruiting some decent players, and I'm sure that is their aims, however I only hope they've got plans in place in the event of relegation, and how we're going to deal with any debts which the club may have accrued during the takeover.

Re: Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
My hopes for the next 20 - 30 years watching Burnley is that we stay as the elite club in the North West, vastly improve our recruiting and youth setups and turn the ground into one with great facilities. If we go down on the odd occasion so be it, but if we have everything in place to buy the right players and recruit from the youth, we should comfortably stay above the likes of blackburn, Preston and Blackpool. If we meet them in the cups or league, I want us to win with room to spare, so they can marvel at how far in real terms we are ahead of them.
I'd never want any of them to go under, a sustained period of dominance will do just nicely.

Re: Ewood.. Fat lady to sing soon?
I think the aims of ALK are to make money for themselves.
Fortunately, the best way to do that is to keep the club in the PL. But if we get relegated, then the best way unfortunately will be to sell the saleable players, pay of ALK's debt to Garlick, and possibly even to pay themselves a dividend with the change before selling the shell of the club to a property developer. But be sure of this, ALK are in it for the money.

We are better than this.
Today was the anniversary of that magnificent tie v Aberdeen, when I spent a couple of very happy hours on the cricket field with the Jocks.
I've just binge-watched both series of 'Sunderland Til I Die'
I've got close friends who - bless 'em - are diehard Birmingham City
I'm married to a Newcastle fan
Lesson: different birthright, different shirt & colours. But we are all the same.
The world is full of misery & crap, more so than ever.
Find your pleasures. Enjoy sporting rivalry, mock the failures of those rivals.
But don't wish true, endless and terminal misery on your football-loving kinfolk.
It demeans.
(PS. My credentials: ST throughout the 70s, was at Ewood - and celebrated - when we dismantled stadium roof and chucked it on the pitch, saw THAT Garner-funded plane fly over the Turf v Torquay, 600 mile round trip for Orient game. More but that'll do. I'm a Claret, grew up in Rossy, and won a trophy with Andy Wharton.)
