Which teams are we bigger than in the Championship ?
I know there's alot debate about what describes a big club but I just want a bigger or smaller answer based on what you think. Should be interesting to see how people perceive us.

What criteria?
League position: we are bigger than all of them.
History: we are up there.
Fan base: you are about correct.

Surely which is the biggest club is by definition, everything else being equal, is the club with the most amount of supporters.
Whether that club is more successful than other clubs is a different question entirely.

The size of a club is inversely proportional to how much its fanbase gives a s**t about it's perceived size.

We're currently bigger than all of them as we're playing our trade in the PL. well they are all currently plying their trade int he Championship, however in the spirit of the OP. I'll give it a bash.

I'd place us on a par with many of those clubs in terms of attendances, in terms of history Derby & Forest both boost European cups within living memory, well Fulham & Middlesbrough have competed in recent European finals, and obviously Blackburn, Blackpool, Huddersfield & PNE have plenty of successes to document, however apart from Rovers winning the PL in 95, most of their big triumphs are a long time ago, as equally are Burnley's, we've not won a major trophy since 1960, but as always with these thing it's objective.

Well it might if we were to suffer relegation this season, as many seem to think we will on here.

I think they lost to a top side maybe in the quarter or semi final but they were an exceptionally good side under Clough, I listened to John McGovern on Talksport today and he mentioned Alan Hinton missed 2 games because he nutmegged McKay in training and shouted out in glee. McKay responded by kicking him into space

I have a less abstract notion of which clubs we may or may not be “bigger” than, with no further definition of the measurement criteria is……. And it is…..

Bigger than all of them because we’re in the prem and they’re not. Like Rovers.
Enjoy it.
Enjoy it.
Re: Which teams are we bigger than in the Championship ?
If you take in factors such as history, trophies, fan base size & current league and financial position here are my thoughts
We are bigger than all of them apart from these few who each could argue the toss one way or another:
Birmingham City
Blackburn Rovers
Derby County
Nottingham Forest
Preston
Sheffield Utd
Stoke City
West Bromwich Albion

Re: Which teams are we bigger than in the Championship ?
They lost to Juventus over two legs in the 1972-73 season .... lost 3-1 in Turin and a 0-0 draw at the Baseball GroundJohnMac wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 6:22 pmI think they lost to a top side maybe in the quarter or semi final but they were an exceptionally good side under Clough, I listened to John McGovern on Talksport today and he mentioned Alan Hinton missed 2 games because he nutmegged McKay in training and shouted out in glee. In the first leg, the Juventus player Helmut Haller was seen visiting the Referees room ( a fellow German ) before the game & during half time. Peter Taylor saw this and tried to intervene. He was punched by Haller and then frogmarched away by Juventus security staff. The only two Derby players on a yellow card from previous European games, Roy McFarland & Archie Gemmill were both booked for their first fouls of the game, ensuring they'd miss the 2nd leg. No Juventus player was booked despite some typically robust Italian tackling. The Juventus General Manager at the time, Italo Allodi employed a Hungarian called Solti to work as a " fixer ", but when UEFA finally investigated him in 1974, it was claimed that Solti was acting independently, and Allodi got off.
The referee for the 2nd leg, a Portugese called Lobo, was approached by Solti and offered $5,000 and a new car for a Juventus win but fortunately he was honest and reported the approach to UEFA.

Agree 100% from that list, so many variables what could define bigger, you’d be arguing all day & getting nowhere with it.Ric_C wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 9:50 pmIf you take in factors such as history, trophies, fan base size & current league and financial position here are my thoughts

Bristol City should have the potential to be a massive club given their catchment area, however as you rightly point out it's a hotbed of rugby.

Yes sadly they've fallen on hard times under Joey, but rightly or wrongly they've always been the poor neighbours.Longtimeclaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 8:07 pmAlways preferred the “gas”, having lived in the City for 2 years.
Bristol is on my lists of cities to visit for a weekend, I've heard lots of good things about it, particularly the renowned architecture.

I used to visit Bristol regularly for business and had a couple of colleagues there who were Bristol City fans. They reckoned that the division of support was based on geography. Those in the north of the city supported Rovers (football), Bristol (rugby) & Gloucester (cricket) while for those in the south it was City, Bath & Somerset.

I know my Reading supporting neighbors see Burnley as a much bigger club than Reading
Historically , Reading spent most of their existence in the lower reaches of the football league and only a few seasons in the Premier league

Used to do alot of work in Bristol. Very strange place with lots of very strange people. Nice enough City though with a lovely waterfront.
Re: Which teams are we bigger than in the Championship ?
We are bigger than all non PL clubs simply because we ARE in the PL. Oh and being a founder member of FL. Oh and having a great history. Some idiot on here thinks MK Dons are a bigger club than us. No further comment needed
