Just makes it harder and harder to keep up.
I feel that, even though it was scrapped, a super league is inevitable.

Correct. And it shows it's not always about money, which is a good thing.

Wow! a 6 year deal.
Normally it only takes one big money move to start a domino effect down the food chain, so let's hope for Burnley's sake that this is that deal.
Can Foden and Grealish work in the same team, perhaps at City they could, because both are too good to sit on the bench.

You have to think 2 of Mahrez, Silva and Jesus will be leaving City before the end of August.

...why do you care the fee?
£10m or £100m, we'd never have been in for him. The money is irrelevant.

Re: Transfer record smashed - Grealish deal done
Why will top players leave City?
City will probably play over 60 games and will rotate the squad.
Players will win trophies and get well paid .

Re: Transfer record smashed - Grealish deal done
It’s not really a competition when we play Man City. It’s gone beyond David v Goliath. The same applies for many clubs in the PL. it’s one of the few games I bet on ( against) and one of the few I don’t mind missing ,the same as friendlies. I don’t mind watching them against other teams but if I just did that then I’d be no better than the arm chair fans in China that this rich persons play thing is trying to appeal to. Grealish is a great player though but he’s not a guaranteed starter there.

Really?ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 8:08 pmCorrect. And it shows it's not always about money, which is a good thing.
It's absolutely always about money. At these silly sums it hardly matters if they are a few grand a week apart.
Lets just chuck some imaginary figures around...
Villa offer him £250,000 a week, but no chance of CL footy or a PL trophy or even the FA Cup. Man City offer him £240,000 a week but guaranteed CL footy, first or second in the PL and a domestic trophy guaranteed. He goes to City and it LOOKS like it's not about the money. Now change the City figure to £75,000 a week (a three year contract leaves him never having to work again) and see if he goes....
One thing is certain tho... football and the business controlling it is absolutely obscene.

Interesting fact about Grealish. He's played the same number of Premier League games as Dwight McNeil.

Re: Transfer record smashed - Grealish deal done
I saw a quote today from Pep Guardiola back in 2009 in which he stated that the modern game makes him sad as teams spend tens of millions of pounds on players when the academy has players waiting for a chance.
I don't think I need to say anything else.

£100 million was his release clause I've heard tonight, you'd hope we have a decent release clause for McNeil.
Anyway, potentially a good signing for City, still only 25 and will get better

Re: Transfer record smashed - Grealish deal done
I've also heard he's a decent diver, not that will be any use to City, as even if he did win them penalties they'd never score them anyway.
Unless of course they also snap up Harry Kane in this window, and with their obscene spending power I wouldn't rule anything out.
Surely with all this talent at his disposal even Pep can now win City the CL can't he.

Re: Transfer record smashed - Grealish deal done
I might be being unnessarily pessimistic, but I've always thought as our stay in the Premier league as temporary. I've been critical of our lack of transfer activity, but in part it's down to simple economics and potential infrastructure. Transfers like this just highlight how well we've done to be here at all, but the reality is we're competing because we have a once in a lifetime manager. How Sean Dyche has done what he's done with the resources he's had is mind boggling really.

Re: Transfer record smashed - Grealish deal done
Tbh, Jack Grealish going to Manchester City makes our job of trying to stay in this league a bit easier. Severely weakens Aston Villa. Manchester City can carry on spending for all I care.

They’d already signed all 3 of those players before this deal so they either knew was a done deal last week or were taking a “risk”boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 10:13 pmHe spoke very well...

Perhaps now he is playing for an elite club for an elite manager mr dull might give him more minutes for England and who knows win a trophy.
Good luck to him, football now is just so corporate it's lost it's soul IMHO.
