Burnley’s furthest ever goal
Following on from the types of goals thread by Dandeclaret, it got me thinking what’s the furthest out we have ever scored from in a game ??
We all remember Beckham & Rooney from the half way line but have we ever done anything similar ?
The one that sticks in my mind is Joey Gudjonsson against PNE but that wasn’t nowhere near the half way line albeit far out.

Re: Burnley’s furthest ever goal
That’s the goals I mentioned, how far do we reckon ?
I think about 40 yards.
Interestingly Joey Gudjonsson did score from his own half for Leicester.

Sammy Todd scored against Fulham from wide out on the right, about 40yds being my guesstimate.
4-0 win, 89th minute. Boxing Day 1964.

Portland Timbers in 2009…that was some distance out… several thousand kilometres at a guess.

Andy Payton away at Blackpool.
Just inside their half if memory serves me right.

Not the furthest, but how far out was Ian Brennan when he got the winner at Liverpool. I've never read anywhere if it was ever measured, guesstimated, but it looked a hell of a long way out to me.
Re: Burnley’s furthest ever goal
Brian Laws away at Gillingham from just inside our own half.

That Joey Gudjonsson goal was brilliant. If I remember correctly it was a free kick played short to him, though I could be wrong. What I do remember is crying out for him not to shoot. “Oh for fu….yeaaahhhhhhhh”

Re: Burnley’s furthest ever goal
From the freeze frame I'd say Joey is pretty much bang on 35 years out. The lines mowed into the pitch = 4 stripes within the 18 yard line and he's about a yard inside the 8th line.
An old friend used to speak fondly of a disallowed goal scored from 'miles' away but can't recall who he said scored it now and appreciate that's not the most helpful contribution.

Peter Noble 'scored' from around the half way line in the 70s, it was shown on the Granada TV highlights programme the day after.what_no_pies wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 10:38 pmFrom the freeze frame I'd say Joey is pretty much bang on 35 years out. Was a pre season friendly at the Shay, scored from a goal kick! I think it might have taken a few crazy bounces but I remember as a kid saying “Nice goal at Halifax” and he said he claimed it!

Just know one of our keepers scored at Burnden Park straight from a goal kick in the late 80’s, early 90’s. Can’t for the life of me think who it was. Windy as hell, though.

Brian Miller against Sheff Utd, I think in the 62/63 season. Long range shot from the left flank in a 5-1 victory.

Billy O’Rourke in goal for us.Georgiaclaret wrote: ↑Fri Sep 17, 2021 1:50 amJust know one of our keepers scored at Burnden Park straight from a goal kick in the late 80’s, early 90’s. Re: Burnley’s furthest ever goal
A goal kick is restarting the game when the ball has gone out of play. The rules changed recently and you can score from one.
The goalkeeper scoring with a kick from his hands or in open play is a clearance.
To my knowledge, no goalkeeper has ever scored from a goal kick.

I remember Waldo nearly scoring from the halfway line in the 70s against West Ham I think .
Re: Burnley’s furthest ever goal
Liam Robinson scored from some way out against Wrexham at the Racecourse, circa 1996 I seem to recall.

I thought Harry Thomson scored one, as above post. If not on record then perhaps a cup or even a friendly. Come on Tony!

I know we scored one against Arsenal that went well Overmars...............the effort against Spurs, just past Edinburgh, was feeble in comparison.
I thank you.

I remember (vaguely) a Gillingham centre half 1980 ish turning and launching it back to his keeper from just inside his own half
but his keeper had wandered out of his area at the cricket field end

I seem to remember Brian O’Neil scoring a 40 yarder against Man United at Turf Moor, could be wrong since memories do get amplified by time.

Thomson scored in a Lancashire Senior Cup game. I think it might have been at Chorley.

I seem to remember Vince Overson hitting a screamer from just inside the opposition half, right in front of the Longside.
The 2 goals at Reading in the play-off were from some distance, weren’t they?

Brian O'Neil scored a Worldy against Manure (Stepney in goal). We were attacking the Cricket Field Stand and O'Neil was halfway up the Bee Hole Embankment, or that's how it seemed

Paul Cook was out on the left hand touchline when he chipped the Walsall keeper in 2001 (5-2 when Briscoe scored twice).
Robbie Blake's free kick at home to Preston at the Jimmy Mac end was some way out too.

Think Robbie’s free kick against Spurs in the semi final was further. Was out near the BL touch line

Always remember Andy Lochhead scoring from inside his own half vs WBA in 68? Burnley won 5.1 at home in the season we lost 8.1 at the Hawthorns. Slower bullets were fired that day.
