One meaty challenge
One wobble defensively

Re: Newcastle v Burnley - Player Ratings
Pope 5 - another poor decision cost us points
Lowton 7 - didn't do much wrong really
Collins 8 - strong display
Tarks 8 - good form continues
Taylor 8 (mom) - brilliant defensively hut a bit short going forward
JBG 7 - good shift, used the ball well
Westwood 6 - did really well 1st half but poor 3nd
Brownhill 6 - as per Westwood
McNeil 4 - no idea where he was meant to be playing but that it took til the 85th minute for him to deliver a decent cross says everything
Cornet 6 - decent header but his passing has gone awry the last couple of games
Wood 6 - worked hard but not much end product
Vydra 5 - usual - ran about, missed a decent chance, tried though
Roberts 6 - alright. Decent throw
Jayrod 6 - livelier than either striker and might have nicked a point with a bit kore luck.
Terribly unlucky with the goal albeit a mistake from Pope in hindsight but that suddenly shifted the balance Nd gave them something to protect. Until then we were the better side.
But poor 20-25 mins for the start of the 2nd half.

There's some harsh scores there. Until they scored we were playing well

Re: Newcastle v Burnley - Player Ratings
Pope 4 **** poor. If you come out to there, they aren’t going to score a header from that, you HAVE to catch it. Shame.
Lowton 5 quiet day but maybe that’s a good thing.
Tarks 7
Collins 7
Taylor 9 excellent again.
JBG 7 good game - great first half
Brownhill 5 - we were weak in the middle today. Westy and brownhill couldn’t seem to affect the game in defence or attack today.
Westwood 5
McNeil 6 some good stuff including a couple of great balls but he is a bit too safe at times. Doesn’t like losing the ball but with his quality he should take more risks.
Wood 4 started quite well but then reverted back to losing everything and being 5 seconds behind play at all times.
Cornet 7 was lively and we dominated while he was on. Pray his injury isn’t bad but it didn’t look ideal. Just our luck that we buy a player of his class, with a clean injury record, and he’ll turn into an injury prone player now.
Jay 7 made us better
Vydra 4 poor today
Roberts 6 shite touch at the end though

Pope 4. Sadly cost us two points at least
Lowton 5
Tarks 5 awful distribution
Colins 6
Taylor 8 what a tackle again
JBG 6 good first half then nothing
Brownhill 6 lots of effort but not much else
Westwood 5
McNeil 5 Utterly wasted. Has to play left side. He played there for last 5 mins and delivered two best crosses of the game
Wood 4 won a few headers early then nothing
Cornet 6 did ok until injury. We were much better when he was playing
Vydra 4. A nearly man
Roberts 5 Strange sub unless Lowton had a knock
JRod 5 Bit unlucky with the offside goal
Overall very poor against terrible opposition. SD starting to make one or two strange choices.

Pope 6 Includes -1 for gaffe with the goal
Lowton 6 Solid enough
Tarkowski 6 Ditto
Collins 7 Good again
Taylor 8 MoM. Includes +1 for goal saving tackle on Wilson
JBG 7 Thought he looked lively today
Westwood 4 No creativity
Brownhill 4 Ditto
McNeil 5 Slightly more creativity but not much
Cornet 6
Wood 4 No service but he’s not serving anything up either
Vydra 4 Never looks like scoring to me

Lowton 5
Tarkowski 6
Collins 6
Taylor 6
Gudmundsson 3 wow did he ever pick the right option?
Westwood 5
Brownhill 5
McNeil 3 so negative, never beat a man, and looks like we carry him. Needs a reat
Wood 4
Cornet 5
I don't think I've seen a more lacklustre and spineless person for nearly 2 decades.
We looked totally and utterly lost.
Dyche 1 didn't even look interested in changing it.
Extremely poor, and some want 4 more years??? I couldn't watch 4 more games to be honest

If we get relegated, I will blame our totally useless midfield, as well as the last three wasted years of abysmal recruitment. On the positive side Stephens should be fit soon to join Lennon, Barnes, Bardsley, Pieters etc on the bench. You can’t beat having plenty of “padding” in reserve.

Pope 3 awful error
Lowton 5
Tarkowski 5 all over the place with his passing
Collins 7
Taylor 7
Gudmundsson 3 useless
Brownhill 6
Westwood 3 whooooooooosh
Mcneil 6 not at his blistering best, always keeps hold of the ball though.
Wood 3 I got pelters on here for saying Wood has no all around game, today you see it.
Cornet 5
Jay Rodriguez 3 it's about time we stopped with this Jay Rod experiment, he's shite, we all know hes shite, just knock it on the head.
Vydra 3 worst he's played for us, not entirely his fault in this static whoooosh team.

Woeful stuff and a bunch of players who now look like they’ve forgotten how to win a game and a midfield who have no concept about composure or passing. 1 win in 30 odd the alarm bells should be ringing.

Re: Newcastle v Burnley - Player Ratings
Pope’s mistake wasn’t horrendous (as some are suggesting) it was unlucky. Ok he could have punched it… but how many have raved about the catches he’s and claims he’s taken when we needed him to. He was unlucky in that as he fell it bumped into an opponents head. He got a nudge (not a foul for me) and it bounced off a head as he fell.
There were much more abject performances out there and that today was the culmination of… poor recruitment… poor quality… predictable management… and fear…
The best players were our defenders… the rest were hard workers without the required quality. This side won’t stay up … but its been fun and I’ll be there next year

Re: Newcastle v Burnley - Player Ratings
I agree with most of your ratings but I'd be interested to hear about your rating for Bronwnhill. Happy to disagree of course but intrigued to hear your views

I would check your stats if I were you. We have lost fewer games in our last 38 league matches than we have either won or drawn.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 9:14 pm............
Woeful stuff and a bunch of players who now look like they’ve forgotten how to win a game and a midfield who have no concept about composure or passing. 1 win in 30 odd the alarm bells should be ringing.

Re: Newcastle v Burnley - Player Ratings
Pope 6 minus 1 for goal
Lowton 5 performances letting Roberts in imo
Tarkowski 6 he’s trying to do the midfielders job
Collins 7 mom,
Taylor 7
Gudmundsson 6 getting criticised for failings but doesn’t turn back like Dwight and I actually noticed he was playing unlike Westwood & Brownhill
Westwood 5
Brownhill 5
McNeil 5
Wood 5
Cornet 5
Subs
All subs actually tried to make a difference so an extra point for positive attitude
Should be a given
But Westwood McNeil & Brownhill all in relegation mode
Vydra 6
Roberts 6

Re: Newcastle v Burnley - Player Ratings
Pope 6 - should have punched it for the goal but was a bit unlucky with the spill, a couple of saves that kept us in it in 2nd Half
Lowton 6 - not sure why he was dragged off but I think it's about time we thought about the future and start playing Roberts more often
Taylor 7 - looked to be ploughing a lone furrow on the left, stupendous goal saving block in the first half.
Collins 7 - doesn't look out of place at this level, again I would pick him more often as long as neither Mee or Tarkowski commit to a contract
Tarkowski 7 - Solid enough and shepherded his less experience partner well, playing out of position on the left, some ropey Hollywood balls as usual
JBG 7 - thought he was our best attacking prospect behind Cornet, hit the post and broke in behind often in the first half, faded in the second
Brownhill 5 - chugs around makes some good interceptions but him and Westwood were bossed by Shelvey & Co in the second half
Westwood 5 - as above
McNeil 5 - good first half but seemed to wander and at times looked disinterested in receiving the ball
Wood 5 - worked hard, some decent hold up play and knock ons in the first half, set up Cornet's first chance
Cornet 7 - our attacking threat vanished when he went off, however his free kick was abysmal and his early chance should have worked the keeper, but he delivered our only attempt on target
Vydra 5 - made to look puny by the Newcastle defenders, made no impact and missed a gilt edged chance.
Very frustrating game, we created most of the chances in the first half, but went in one down, & were bossed for most of the second.
Again no real plan B until 10 minutes to go when JayRod came on. If the latter had delayed his run a split second we might have been talking about our character, never say die attitude etc, but we lost 1 - 0, it was Newcastle's first win and first clean sheet of the season, against Eddie Howe, not noted for his effective defensive stratagems.

Re: Newcastle v Burnley - Player Ratings
Pope - 6- goal was unfortunately the, fine otherwise
Lowton 5- The way in which our team sets up, we need our full backs to provide a much better attacking threat, he didnt
Taylor - 6 - been great defensively, but he never offers anything going forward IMO. His crossing is poor and he always tries that same move - runs with his head down to try and get to the byline.
Tarkowski - 7
Collins - 7 - gonna be a good un!
JBG - 4 - zero threat these days. Predictable, easy to defend against
Westwood - 4- midfield is so easily overrun and lack of
Quality with passing
Brownhill - 4 works hard but that’s it - passing poor, lack of goals and assists throughout his time here -really don’t get the hype from some about him -championship midfielder.
McNeil - 6 - doesn’t run at his fullback anymore or put crosses into the box. I actually think the opposite of many on here - he should stop drifting inside and go back to the player he was when he first broke into the team.
Wood - 4 - when he’s on a run of form like this he’s always a passenger. Needs a big man alongside him to hold the ball up - it’s never been his game.
Cornet - 5
Vydra - 4 movement and touch is always good, finishing is always dreadful
Newcastle were poor, we were worse.

Re: Newcastle v Burnley - Player Ratings
I didn't go to the game, how am I supposed to gauge how players played when the likes of Brownhill is marked from a 3 to a 8 ?
Talk about people seeing the game through different eyes !......oh yeah I forgot, it's opinions.
