I get the feeling we are struggling to attract the players we are interested in or being priced out. I was optimistic last week..but that is waning quickly. We have been here before and know the ending. Dyche is stubborn. Pace is positive but a little naive..as he found out last January.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 6:29 pmAnyone else getting a little nervous? 12 days left to get at least 3 signings in

Sorry but McNeil is bloody terrible on the right, he needs to switch feet or turn circle to put a cross in by then the defender takes the ballIloveyoubrady wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 6:58 pmCornet played most equally Left and Right wing at Lyon, but spent the last couple of years at left back. Personally, I see him as a right winger as he’s such a goalscorer on his left foot but also two footed. Dyche clearly wants him left and Dwight right which also makes sense as Dwight has the attributes to make a very good right midfielder but he’s not been at his best this year.

Can't understand why he isn't playing in cm in a free role as part of 3, or on the left of a front 3. He has been forced to think defence first due to our rigid 442. No wonder we don't create many chances.

Lundstram is out of the rangers side tonight.
Linked with Boro and probably not good enough for us nowadays but would have had him here 18months ago

Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Long term McNeil isn’t a left winger. He’s too slow and can’t beat a man. Can see the logic to playing him on the right. He’s always cutting inside and it makes sense for him to cut onto his stronger foot rather than what’s he’s doing at the minute on the left which is having to turn onto his weaker foot and pass it backwards. This needs a quicker full back being able to overlap on the right to put the crosses in first time which I hope Roberts is able to do when fit

Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
All good signings, but of the 3 only Cornet has made an immediate impact, now I suspect Collins & Roberts will prove their worth in time, the problem is we don't have the luxury of time especially given our precarious position at the foot of the table.
Personally despite the threat of relegation I'd still prefer the approach of targeting players of this ilk who we can develop, and then all being well sell them on for good money a year or two down the line, this is one way that would ensure the club remains sustainable no matter what division we're in at any given moment.
This was always going to be a tough window given there's every chance of us being in the Championship in a few months, and that allied to our sensible wage structure unfortunately hinders us in the market, but Pace pulled the cornet deal out of his hat, so we can only fervently hope he'll provide another nice surprise or two before the window shuts, and ideally without breaking the bank, as although PL security is desirable it's not worth betting the ranch as the consequences don't bear thinking about in the event of failure.

You misunderstood me mate: I was joking about him being AWOL this season, hence the laughing emoji’s.
I agree with you though, won’t be here forever and unless Cornet is the replacement, we need someone as cover and competition for his place.

Nope. We’ll either get them or we won’t. We’ll go down or we’ll stay up. Life will go on.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 6:29 pmAnyone else getting a little nervous? 12 days left to get at least 3 signings in
When I read through the transfer updates on sky the truth is there’s not much going on elsewhere either. For whatever reason, these things all seem to happen when there’s days left, no further time for negotiations and all parties have to either reach an agreement or not & move on. For that reason I wish the transfer windows were 48 hours in January and 72 hours in summer!

Who blinks first.
Agents and clubs holding out for as long as they can for as much money as they can get.
No club/agent are going to sell to Burnley with 12 days of the window left, with the possibility of getting more money from elsewhere.

Leeds bidding for Aaronson from Salzburg. Be a good move for us if we can pip them at the post. Wonder if the American link could work in our favour

It isn't, if you bother to look his best games and stats are when he plays on the right wing and there is plenty of reports and web sites where he's mentioned playing in that positionClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 7:51 pmSo why was it widely reported that he’d mainly played on the left wing and at left back for Lyon?

We need to look abroad for better value, This player looks a good prospect Brennan Johnson at Forest ((His dad David played for Burnley on loan) , they've knocked back a 15m bid from Brentford and want closer to 20m, he's young and hardly played any game's but in this country if they have a purple patch half season and score 5 or 6 they all of a sudden become 20 million pound player's
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Can't edit my post but just to add if Brennan Johnson could be bought for say 12 million cash upfront instead of the ridiculous 20 million wanted he'd be a good buy, he can play left and right wing and this would allow us to change from 442 and switch to 4231 with McNeil in the middle of the 3 behind the lone striker

the problem we have is we are bottom of the league and play crap/distinctly average football - we already saw in the summer a bang average player from Celtic turned us down because of it. It's going to be very hard for us to attract young exciting players unfortunatelyClaretMov wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 5:54 amCan't edit my post but just to add if Brennan Johnson could be bought for say 12 million cash upfront instead of the ridiculous 20 million wanted he'd be a good buy, he can play left and right wing and this would allow us to change from 442 and switch to 4231 with McNeil in the middle of the 3 behind the lone striker

Maybe we got lucky that he fancied being on easy street considering he has 1 goal in 20 games in a very weak league

Dwight in a 10 role I feel could be effective, of course we'll actually need to buy some strikers first, or get the ones we have fit.minnieclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 9:12 amIt was the perfect opportunity at OT and SD went with Lennon. I don't wish to speak for SD, but he'll probably argue that Lennon was our best player at OT, and he did get on the score sheet, which isn't something our strikers have done very often this season.

Can remember the Croatia v Spain knockout game at the Euros, Orsic completely changed the game when he came on and Croatia went from 3-1 down to 3-3 late on (he scored).
Interesting he plays on the left which means either McNeil right or maybe finally McNeil in the 10 and Cornet on the right (assuming we get a new striker in too).

According to transfer market he’s played roughly 20% of his games for Zagreb as a striker. This season playing there 4 times and scoring 4 times.RVclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 9:59 amCan remember the Croatia v Spain knockout game at the Euros, Orsic completely changed the game when he came on and Croatia went from 3-1 down to 3-3 late on (he scored).

He can play left wing, right wing, and striker, currently on 15k euros wages so wages not an issue just he'd be leaving Europen football for us, but a big wage increase might sway himRVclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 9:59 amCan remember the Croatia v Spain knockout game at the Euros, Orsic completely changed the game when he came on and Croatia went from 3-1 down to 3-3 late on (he scored).

It’s great that we’re clearly looking at getting Gudmundsson out of the team as he has been about as much use as a chocolate fireguard for two-three years.
The greatest issue is a centre forward though - who is the target now Benteke is a no go? Something secretive must be brewing behind the wings.
