Rooney didn't say that did he? I thought it was the administrators had guaranteed him no player would be sold without Rooney's permission? If so permission has been given and Flange is leaving.
I can see why Rooney let him go now. He only likes old Flange.

How long does a medical take? If it takes say 4 hours then if we don’t hear anything about any incomings in the next hour then we know our day is done.
A medical is not needed to complete a transfer, getting on this late most clubs can use previous medical reports to be satisfied of a player's fitness and get the deal through.

We are evidently rushing round trying anything and everything to get someone in.

I've been very critical of Garlick and his promises, actions or lack of them, and I have to say if this window shuts with no obvious improvements to the squad, never mind starting 11, for a side that sits rock bottom and bang out of form, then Mr Pace's words will start getting questioned too, and rightly so.

I think we are down anyway as we have too little, dnd left it too late to recover, but we haven't even started planning for the inevitable, which I believe this window would have been ideal

Yeah that's what Arsenal usually do and then complete the deal in the next day or so

But it doesn't matter what they have in the bank Pete, with all the respect in the world

They can spend what they want, knowing full well that the consequences will be paid by the billionaire owners

We can't, and we tried in this window (from what I can gather) to increase the squad size by bringing in players we needed that would improve us

One came, one turned us down, and one had a change of heart after it was all sorted

There has to be some criticism (certainly with Ramsey) but not as much as being spread, and as usual, lots of it completely over the top
Indeed but you are less likely to be able to compete with billionaires if you have £80 million quid in the bank and not on the pitch. Most clubs/businesses use their resources to generate more value not have it sat in the bank.

Course all this is mute because it's not there anymore.

Yes, and it wasn't being used under Garlick and its gone under Pace

That is known, and it still wouldn't make a difference when we are competing with billionaires playthings

Newcastle and Everton are in the same league as us on the pitch, but are light years ahead in everything else, and that counts

Just pointing out that Bournemouth are owned by someone who covers their losses like a large number of PL clubs and that's why they've done well this window.

Indeed but we have to have a business model that can out perform billionaire clubs or we do not have a Premiership plan at all. And that is the issue.

There are only 3 clubs not owned by Billionaires: Burnley, Norwich and Watford - the bottom 3.

One is a well run family club, one is subbed by wealthy owners and the other has huge debt leveraged with American financiers.

The question of successful Windows has more riding on it than it has ever had before.

We weren't functioning up front (without Cornet), perhaps we've given ourselves a chance whilst being careful with the finances.

Read the stuff that came earlier, you fool, and you'll notice that after I put the earlier poster right, I went on to say something along the lines of "Anyway, let's see what the evening brings" in other words, he made his point, I made mine, end of.

;) You couldn't resist getting involved. Why is that ?

I'll try again...............I couldn't let the bloke's comment go unchallenged so I didn't.

Indeed but again it backs up my point there is no plan. Buying 29 year olds in the January window when you are bottom of the league is not good planning. It looks like a knee jerk to the Wood sale and not a long term strategy to build value into the club by buying talent and increasing its value.

Short term reaction just creates even more long term problems - that is part of the process of weighing up whether the Window was a success or otherwise.

Anyway, I'm sure we agree on the substantive issues and we have a new striker and games in hand.

Who knows - I'm still hopeful for this season.....!

Do you mean to people's opinions or to our football and PL survival?
PL survival.

Frankly I'm surprised by the negativity.
We weren't functioning up front (without Cornet), perhaps we've given ourselves a chance whilst being careful with the finances.
You're either a glass half full person or very sarcastic :o

Orsic could have made a big difference tbf.
That was another deal that didn't get over the line? Yes he could but another missed opportunity.

I don't feel as though we are any better off under the new board then we was with the last. Just a sh*t load of debt to go along with it now.

Yup

I'd have been looking for us to bring potential this window, though I'm pleased we did replace Wood

And like you, I'm still hopeful for this season

I do like our first eleven, but there isn't much beyond that and that is the concern

Jury out on that, and we'll never know.
I have to say that I didn't see him (in his best position) as a primary requirement.
I do/did wish we'd sign a centre-mid though

We've made a fair few chances and Wood, in particular, has missed most of them. If the new lad can convert even half the decent chances he'll get, we'll turn our draws into wins. Whether we can now keep up with Newcastle and Everton, I'm not so sure but, hey ho, let's get stuck in.
