A medical is not needed to complete a transfer, getting on this late most clubs can use previous medical reports to be satisfied of a player's fitness and get the deal through.thelaughingclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 6:23 pmHow long does a medical take? If it takes say 4 hours then if we don’t hear anything about any incomings in the next hour then we know our day is done.
Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
We are evidently rushing round trying anything and everything to get someone in.
I've been very critical of Garlick and his promises, actions or lack of them, and I have to say if this window shuts with no obvious improvements to the squad, never mind starting 11, for a side that sits rock bottom and bang out of form, then Mr Pace's words will start getting questioned too, and rightly so.
I think we are down anyway as we have too little, dnd left it too late to recover, but we haven't even started planning for the inevitable, which I believe this window would have been ideal

Indeed but you are less likely to be able to compete with billionaires if you have £80 million quid in the bank and not on the pitch. Most clubs/businesses use their resources to generate more value not have it sat in the bank.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 6:19 pmBut it doesn't matter what they have in the bank Pete, with all the respect in the world
They can spend what they want, knowing full well that the consequences will be paid by the billionaire owners
We can't, and we tried in this window (from what I can gather) to increase the squad size by bringing in players we needed that would improve us
One came, one turned us down, and one had a change of heart after it was all sorted
There has to be some criticism (certainly with Ramsey) but not as much as being spread, and as usual, lots of it completely over the top
Course all this is mute because it's not there anymore.

There are only 3 clubs not owned by Billionaires: Burnley, Norwich and Watford - the bottom 3.
One is a well run family club, one is subbed by wealthy owners and the other has huge debt leveraged with American financiers.
The question of successful Windows has more riding on it than it has ever had before.

We weren't functioning up front (without Cornet), perhaps we've given ourselves a chance whilst being careful with the finances.

Indeed but again it backs up my point there is no plan. Buying 29 year olds in the January window when you are bottom of the league is not good planning. It looks like a knee jerk to the Wood sale and not a long term strategy to build value into the club by buying talent and increasing its value.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 6:52 pmNo argument here with that, but I do refer you to my previous reply about what we tried to bring in and how we went about it.
Short term reaction just creates even more long term problems - that is part of the process of weighing up whether the Window was a success or otherwise.
Anyway, I'm sure we agree on the substantive issues and we have a new striker and games in hand.
Who knows - I'm still hopeful for this season.....!

We've made a fair few chances and Wood, in particular, has missed most of them. If the new lad can convert even half the decent chances he'll get, we'll turn our draws into wins. Whether we can now keep up with Newcastle and Everton, I'm not so sure but, hey ho, let's get stuck in.
