Thought is was a big mistake from SD last night ?

Post by s6t9a2f3f » Thu Apr 07, 2022 5:59 pm

Why give a interview that can only motivate Everton for rest of season ? When he didn't need to ? Spoke like a rookie really. Calling Everton bottlers and they can't get over the line can only get their backs up at a time where their confidence is low.
Might be nothing but don't give any rival relegation club any type of "inspiration" or "motivation".

First time I’ve seen real mind games from Dyche. Could go either way, or have no effect at all I guess. Thought people were bored of the same old cliched interviews though so I’m surprised to see criticism.

Agree completely, I can remember when Brighton & palace played once & Brighton decided it was a good idea to defecate in palaces dressing room, it’s a slightly different situation here but you are effectively doing the teamtalk for the other team you need to be respectful especially when we could end up with egg on our face.

The end result could be considered the same as being disrespectful & act as a catalyst, SD was probably pumped with adrenaline boosted by the important victory sometimes it’s wise to hold back & err on the side of caution.

He could have lied and said Everton are a great team and should win every game they play.

He didn’t say anything to purposely upset Everton. He was being asked questions, and he said something along the lines of he reminded the players at half time that Everton haven’t won’t many away, and that the game isn’t over, etc etc.

Dyche was asked about the lads' performance and motivation in the second half. Obviously,at half time, they were downcast and probably furious with themselves at potentially chucking three points away.
He responded, as any decent manager would, by pointing out the facts. Everton's away form, particularly, is absolute shite and , in effect, did the boys really think they had anything to worry about.
Ffs, the guy can't win...according to our stayaway experts, Dyche hasn't been motivating the team and then when he does, in spectacular fashion, he's gone about it the wrong way.
Last night's defeat and the ridicule raining down on them in Merseyside will either make or break Everton not Dyche's fine words.
"pumped up"....

It pleased but surprised me to hear Dyche divulging part of his half time team talk but it worked for us on the night. Whether it works for Everton depends on whether they are the basket case people are saying they are under Lampard.
Let's be honest big Frank needs taking down a peg or two , I honestly don't think he has realised what a bad position they are in. Maybe now it will strike home , the question is whether he is a good enough manager to do anything about it in a motivational sense for his team.

Everton were crap, but they tried. I thought Lampard looked like a rabbit in headlights, and I think Dyches interview will do more harm to him than help, and without Lampard sorting something out, I can't see Everton surviving.
A bit like us the pressure is off when they play hard matches, so although their run in looks difficult on paper, it might just benefit their low self belief.

Nearly every season someone who hasn't been in the bottom 3 drops in it late on, while someone who's been down there gets out. I think we need to be careful of Watford. Their form is poor, but they keep putting in odd games where they play far better than their position. Our game at Vicarage Rd. could be crucial, only we'd be in the Everton position.

One game at a time.

Wouldn’t you know it that in the match where his substitutions were faultless and his team talks clearly effective, he’d cock it all up with the post-match interview! I’m sure one day he’ll satisfy these people...

Absolutely nothing in it and Lampard defused the situation by saying all clubs around us are in the same situation.

Let's not bother with training. Just tell the lads Dean Smith said we were crap. Should win easy then.

It could definitely go either way. We'll know more after they've played Man Utd.

To see Dyche's comment being compared to Brighton covering the Palace dressing room in shite though is absolutely brilliant. Top stuff yet again from Jakub.

Some real drama queenery going on here. No surprise it's coming from those who will knock everything about the club at any opportunity.

Dyche effectively told Everton were bottlers. Guess what? He was right. They looked like condemned men at the final whistle and he's stuck the boot in.

Great stuff from Dyche as was his casual reaction to our 3rd goal. On such an important night we are absolutely blessed to have the man with ice in his veins in charge of the situation.

Didn’t he do an interview in our promotion year basically saying that they had done their homework and that Brighton were poor at defending set pieces or something like that.

Basically telling everyone that if you want to beat Brighton, that’s the way to do it.

So he does have form for being quite purposeful and considered in his words. I’m sure last night was no different

You can imagine the number of times that will be quoted by Toffee’s fans in work today. It will mess with their heads and make them even more nervous in the stands. One thing Everton absolutely need is Goodison to be up for the fight, if their fans send negativity down to the field now, they have had it.

Refuse to believe that is anything other than very measured by Dyche.

He’s a real student of psychology so if he thinks he can get an edge by saying something like that, he will.

Beggars belief, at times.
Best manage we've had at the top table in over half a century and he still can't do anything right!
He's not perfect. He makes mistakes.
But how many rabbits does he have to keep pulling out of the hat to be given a bit more trust. It's crazy.
He does, for the most part, the best he can with what he's got.

That story turned out not to be true, it was the Bus driver who shat himself and tried to clean himself up in the dressing room, i think it's on the Aaron Wilbriham under the cosh podcast.

If it goes to the wire which I think it could well do we’ll need every possible advantage & I don’t think potentially encouraging Everton is a sensible move, in different circumstances sat on 30+pts quite frankly I don’t care the slightest what he says about other teams he can call them all the names under the sun until the cows come home. I just hope it doesn’t spur Everton on I guess we’ll know more after the MU I believe that’s the next fixture for them.

If Everton get a result on Saturday (not beyond the realm of possibility given MU's inconsistency) are some people really going to try and put it down to SD's comments?

Dyche made 3 changes to the team bringing in:-
Collins, Rodriguez and cornet.
Goalscorers:-
Collins, Rodriguez and cornet.

I think that might be good enough.

Oh, and I see Lampard is now favourite in the sack race.
Not sure about that. If Watford lose and we win Saturday, Hodgson might get the knife.
That said, as Watford are playing Leeds, us winning and the other game finishing a draw feels best.

It’s was a fair comment in the context of answering a question about motivation and mentality. Everton can’t win away from home. They’re are the facts and the players needing reminding of that at half time.

Great stuff from Dyche as was his casual reaction to our 3rd goal. On such an important night we are absolutely blessed to have the man with ice in his veins in charge of the situation.
My son said his reaction was “cold”. Which I didn’t understand but thank you for the translation

Woany on the other hand was loving it

I think it was the right thing to tell players at half time. A sense of reality, which probably did the trick. It was out of character though from SD to mention it in the interview. Is there any bad feelings between him and Frank from Chelsea games??

I think at time there are too many niceties from managers and players v the team they are playing. I heard Jay say after the game that "we are playing Norwich Sunday, and it wont be easy, as they have great players and a great manager".SD needs to tell the team prior to this game that Norwich are bottom of the league for a reason, and their manager has already been sacked once this season

How can Everton players possibly be motivated when once again their biggest problem this year is emphasised, highlighted acted upon and ultimately proven right?

The fact Dyche said a truth they already know it isn’t going to help them.

Knowing something & actually having the will to act upon it are 2 completely different things, we’ll know more after the man United game just how damaging the comments were.
